This is how we upgraded DLSS for games before overrides were a thing, by manually replacing the .dll files. When you manually replace the files it defaults to preset K, yeah this has also been a thing since version 310.1

Preset K is not default by just replacing DLL. Tested this on several different machines. Usually defaults to E and then you used Nvidia Profile Inspector to force preset K, had to check in-game with DLSS HUD but now you can do it all in Nvidia App and check DLL + PRESET in the Nvidia App overlay.

People that just REPLACED DLL and never doublechecked with DLSS HUD in game, were running blind and very often was not using Transformer model.

DLSS Swapper alone don't work in most games, as you just replace DLL and don't change the preset.

It's look weird, from my testing preset K is by default with DLSS 310.3 and the previous one, i've checked that with DLSS Tweak.

And you have also preset change option in DLSS Swapper.

But maybe it's also because for some games i just copy-paste the DLL file from the game files i just calibrated with DLSS Swapper, for my games who are not supported/undetected by Swapper.

DLSS Swapper added this in later versions but in the beginning, it was replacing dll and nothing else. People were running CNN model even on the new dll as a result.

Now Nvidia App can do it all (at least in most games). I still use Nvidia Profile Inspector sometimes tho, to force certain options.

I've been doing this for like 2 years. Even made a guide on it but it wasn't popular. I'm making another guide now

I'm going to be completely honest with you Chief I have no idea... I just know at the very least that visual Fidelity is going to be better on 310.4.0.0 than on the stock 2.6.6 that comes with fortnite

It has never needed anything to work, just replace the DLL, if any you can use DLSS Swapper to change on all games on the same place

Wrong, DLSS Swapper changes the dll but you will still default to the wrong preset. People that did what you did, mostly was using CNN model still.

This is the reason preset override option exist now

DLSS Swapper = Update dll
Nvidia Profile Inspector = Force Preset K/J

Then use DLSS HUD regedit to ACTUALLY CHECK in-game, close game, disable DLSS HUD, run game.

Now Nvidia App can do it all and you can check preset and model in the Nvidia App Overlay with toggle option.

Seeing how many people who just replaced dll and then played, makes me wonder how many were still using CNN model without even knowing. ALWAYS CHECK. Barely any games use preset K/J by just changing the dll. Only NEWER games do.

Well for some time Fortnite wouldn't let you swap out the in-game DLL file for any version above 3.7.10. if you went higher it would just make the DLSS option disappear. Had to resort to using scripts like the one from Emoose on github and shortly after use the NvApp override. now after a recent Fortnite update any override utilizing scripts, NvApp, or NVPI wouldn't work at all for some reason.
