5070 vs 5070ti? ($CAD)

Hi guys, I'm building a new PC as mine is currently 10 years old and having issues. I'm trying to keep it around a "midrange" budget and it is an all white build.

I found the Asus Prime 5070 12GB (in Black) for $770 $CAD

Then the MSI Gaming Trio OC 5070 Ti 16GB in White for $1200 $CAD

I originally wanted to stick with a budget of around $600 CAD for my GPU. I was eyeing the 5060 Ti 16GB for $620 but after asking chatgpt and doing some research I figured the 5070 was better value.

So my question is, should I go for the 5070 or 5070 ti in white? The White card (5070ti) matches my build aesthetically, and that does matter to me. The MSI Gaming Trio White cards look beautiful and premium compared to the other brands. I have also read that the 5070ti is the best value out of the 50 series GPUs. The only thing is, the price. I didn't really want to spend more than $1K on a GPU right now. I figure if I REALLY need it in the future, I could sell my card and upgrade when the time comes? Oh, and the MSI Gaming Trio OC 5070 Ti sold out a day after me looking at it... so I'm having some regrets. But should I get it if it comes back in stock?

Or should I try to snag a super card when those release for the 50 series?

I plan to use my PC for gaming, like League of Legends, Fortnite, Valorant, etc.. Maybe some light AAA gaming here and there. I'm playing on 1080p but might upgrade to 1440p in the near future, especially after upgrading my PC. I also want to have the option to pivot into video editing and 3D rendering, though that's not something I'm doing right now. In my head I was going to go for the 5070 and if I needed the upgrade for something in the future, I could upgrade then. But the WHITE card just has me taken. It's gorgeous. And everywhere I read, people are saying the 5070ti is the best. For an extra $430 Canadian is it worth it to make that jump? Chatgpt says it's not worth it because it's 55% price increase for 15-30% performance increase but I'm not sure. I can't make up my mind. Please help 😅

if you're playing at 1080p both of those cards are overkill. I'm using a 5070 non-ti for 1440p 165hz, and nearly every game I can max out the frame rate with some graphics tweaks. Even Battlefield 6 Beta ran upwards of 140fps on medium high settings

You want a midrange budget card but are having trouble deciding between the budget card and double the price card. Is the 5070ti considerably better than the 5070, yes. But you can’t have your cake and eat it too. If you want the best then you pay for the best. If you want budget, I’m sure the 5070 will do you just fine.

Bro, i think you should get that 5070ti. I got one for myself and i have a feeling that this card gonna fulfill all my needs for at least 5 years.

At least 5 years for a upper mid-end card? Yeah if you lower settings mayb or use more upscaling (as in lower presets) and FG/MFG. 16GB is decent today but next gen consoles will probably change this if they get 32GB total. PS6 and next gen Xbox is expected in 2027/2028. VRAM usage will probably go up on PC when they hit.

Even high-end cards feels dated after 5 years. Look at 3090 today, its beat by 4070 SUPER in pretty much everything, while using half the power + option for FG and Smooth Motion on top.

5000 SUPER is coming for a reason, even 5070 SUPER gets 18GB. 5070 Ti SUPER gets 24GB same as 5080 SUPER. 24GB is way more "futureproof" and will matter eventually.

Frame gen eats VRAM, using MFG X4 takes like 2GB, meaning a 16GB card will have 14GB left so VRAM will matter if you plan to keep it for many years.

I don't see 5070 Ti do well in 5 years, even my 4090 is on the slow side after 3 but I will wait till RTX 6000 in 2026/2027 or AMD UDNA which is true next gen stuff, RTX 5000 and Radeon 9000 was never true next gen stuff, more like a refresh. Only 5090 moved the needle.

While 5070 Ti would be my choice as well, I don't see any of these cards (5070/5070Ti) do well in 5 years. You will have to lower settings regardless of what you choose. I would wait for SUPER refresh for sure tho. We are too close to pick up a regular 5000 card now, unless on sale / lower than MSRP.

I would rather buy a 5070 or 5070 SUPER for less today and upgrade sooner than splashing more and hoping it will last. No matter what GPU you choose, it won't do well in 5-6 years. You will be like 3 generations behind at this point. No focus from Nvidia/AMD. New features won't be supported etc.

Buying a new GPU every 3-4 years is best. 5-6 is pushing it and even a high-end GPU will feel sluggish after 5-6 years. After 3-4 years, resell value is still decent and you get new shiny tech. Don't overpay hoping it will magically futureproof you. You won't be regardless.

Good luck snag a Super card when it releases. I would try to find a 5070Ti Prime if its in your budget
