Biking from Penticton to Little Tunnel

Hi all,

Planning to rent a bike from Penticton to Little Tunnel and my understanding it's uphill climb all the way if so, how steep it is? Much thx!

Also, I have this video bookmarked, which gives you a decent look at the trail: https://youtu.be/L7Jc_UxUkMo?si=bN6KqyjSLLMdJNLs&t=198

I calculated that section as having a grade of 1.95%, and consistently so for the whole thing, being a former railway. I ran a similar uphill section of the Western Rail Trail (at a slightly steeper 2.3% grade) and the rise was gentle enough that I couldn't tell it was uphill by looking at it. Mind you I don't bike at all, so i'm not sure how that would translate to biking. A couple people passed me on mountain bikes, and I estimate they were going about 10 kmph - working a bit, but not very hard.

Much thx for this scientific explanation!

It is very sandy up that section, I had to push my bike-camping bike up quite a bit between Naramata and Chute a few years back

Penticton to little tunnel isn’t sandy. It’s hard-packed gravel and easy to ride. Little tunnel to Chute Lake gets very sandy! It’s like cycling on a beach.
