Loved One Needs Help
Hi, am wondering if anyone knows how to go about getting benefits for a loved one in Vernon BC.
This person underwent a difficult surgery on a kidney issue and hasn't completely recovered. Was on medical leave for a few months. They are no longer on medical leave and are struggling to find employment plus extremely fatigued and in pain. Add to that the pressure of 2 children to support and bills.
Unfortunately to cope they’ve been drinking more. Thankfully they have admitted they have a problem and are considering rehab.
Are there any programs in Vernon that could potentially fund the cost of rehab, rent, groceries, or has anyone had experience getting income assistance or extended past medical leave? Any information even small is appreciated
Thank you very much. Please be kind in the comments.

Hey there!
I'm sorry your loved one is going through this; it is so hard to navigate the system these days. Are they connected to a social worker in the community? They are able to usually find different programs and help with applications. Interior Health has some resources as well with MHSU. Access Mental Health & Substance Use Services | Services | IH
I'm unsure about specific programs, but hopefully someone from the same community can provide more guidance.
