Assault in Grønland

Hi, I’m not sure if this is the right place to post, but I’ve searched Google and haven’t found any articles or anything about the incident.

I’m a traveller and have been staying in Oslo over the weekend, and last night (06/09/25), I witnessed a man hitting random civilians with what looked like a metal bar, before the police detained him.

This took place in Grønland around 20:30 and I was just curious if anyone knows anything or has any information?

Thanks.

Typically the police will report on incidents on their log here. I can not find any reference to what you observed.

However, around the same time, there was unfortunately a murder in Torshov last night (the people involved appear to be in a tough/drug world). I think they caught one guy, but they were on the lookout for 4 others I believe. All this to say I think the police were very busy last night (you maybe noticed the helicopters as well) and there was also a heavy police presence in Grønland/Tøyen/Gamlebyen from what I observed. This appeared to be linked to the manhunt.

I’ll have to look into it, thank you for the information.

Also, psychiatric cases, suicides and personal crisis are also not reported in the public logs.

If your metal bar man was a nutcase then he wont appear in the logs, as its mainly a healthcare case rather than a criminal case.

Not typically. Some times. A very small fraction of the cases really.

I just checked the "police scanner" app for the Oslo police and they didn't publish anything about it yesterday around that time or about that incident.

I'm not sure what the criteria is for what makes it to there and what doesn't. I've witnessed a few traffic incidents or larger delays that would be worth mentioning to the masses but they didn't mention it. So idk.

Is this «police scanner app» Politiloggen?

Yup! Didnt know how to translate that in the moment I wrote the comment.

In the US, local newspapers will often have a section called the "police blotter" (blotter basically means a old method of making copies, similar to carbon copies), and they'll list everything the police did the day/night before, including full names, addresses and charges. It's pretty insane. Sometimes they'll even include their mugshots, just for arrests.

Yeah, I remember those from when I lived in the states. Always funny that they included everything from «elderly neighbor refused to park on her driveway correctly» to «masked intruder kills two»

Thanks for the help. I’m very surprised I’ve not seen anything posted about it whatsoever.

There was people recording it and it caused quite a big scene. Not sure why the guy was even attacking people. Very strange.

If it's some mental episode they usually don't post it for privacy reasons. Where I work things like this happen often and cops are usually involved, but it never gets reported publicly because our patients are all mentally unstable.

It's Grønland my dude. If it's not a stabbing it's not gonna be out of place enough to make the news

Hm. I've spent time in Grønland at all times during the past three decades.

Shopping during the day, dining during the afternoon/evening m, partying during the night.

Not once have I felt unsafe, had any trouble with anyone, or witnessed any crime or violence.

Crime or violence exist in Grønland like everywhere else, but I don't think talking about Grønland as if it was some lawless inner city borrow, is correct.

Like it or not, over half the city's serious violent crime happens there.

You not feeling unsafe changes that. Not having witnessed any crime or violence just means you either a) don't pay attention or b) are lying about how much time you spend on the streets there.

There's an article in the news today about an assault at Grønland in front of an ATM, maybe that's it? They've even closed down the ATMs in the centre because people are getting assaulted after taking out money. I'll add a link if I find it again.

Edit: link

In the end of the last video in the link the robber first drops something (maybe a stolen phone?) on the ground, bends over to pick it up, proceeds to lose his pants down to his knees and wobbles down the street while trying to pull his pants up.

Rooting for someone making a good meme here, to be posted daily for the next decade. In addition to jail time of course.

/u/PolitietOslo might be able to give some info, but situations with psych cases won’t be in the public log I think so there might be standard protocol reasons it’s not there.

Take a look in the Politiloggen app, If police was involved there’s most likely info about it on there

No, they hardly post anything there. 2-3 posts per day, obviously they have more incidents than that. Then again, the police aren't mandated to make their logs public, so don't expect too much.

I think the best thing would be to report the crime online through politi.no. You can provide information with your contact details or anonymous. If you add your contact details they may contact you for more information.

This is a normal day in Grønland.

Eh, no. But Oslo is a big city, and stuff happens. If that scares you, go somewhere else. Landsbygda trenger folk.

Are you sure? According to some morons on this sub theres barely anything of the sort happening in grønland. Even though i said i have lived there and experienced it myself.

Why where you in Grønland? I see so many tourists there, walking around with shocked faces. I was even asked if the area was safe once by what looked like american tourists of mexican origin lmao. Is it because of cheap airbnbs or hotels?

I was walking around looking for a decent karaoke bar and ended up in a place called Eagle Pub, then it was after that when all the commotion happened. It didn’t seem much cheaper than any other place I went.

Why are they walking around with shocked faces? Grønland is super chill.

u/Glum-Drop-5724 1d ago

Because it looks more like Mogadishu than Norway.

You clearly have never been to Mogadishu because there aren't many Sikhs or Pakistanis walking around there. I am also quite sure you haven't been much to Grønland either unless you think dishes like biryani or butter chicken are famous Somali dishes.

Lastly, you clearly have met very few people from US as well, because then you would have understood how utterly stupid your claim was regarding Americans being shocked by experiencing multiculturism.

However it is nice that you showed your true colours, window licker.

..it’s a nice area with a decent nightlife? Are tourists supposed to walk karl johan and go home?

u/coek-almavet 1d ago

grønland is 100x more chill than american inner cities

Oslo resident, moved from much larger cities in NA/UK, Grønland is quite nice and as OP did its a very common through route for people who live in tøyen/lokka to the waterfront with some great bars, restaurants, and grocery stores (was at eagle pub just last week as well!).

Don’t feed into what certain west Oslo folk like to stereotype about the area just because it’s different from the homogeneous Oslo you have in your head.

Tourist here. I was there yesterday and also earlier tonight. Walked through to get from the waterfront to the Botanical Garden. I didn't feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
