As of today we have to make 19 more cuts (Panthers wire)

ILB Jacoby Windmon waived. That's the first surprise for me.

u/PrinceOfDokkan Retro Logo 2d ago
He added so much aura and intensity to our special teams. Obviously I'm not at practice but his tape was great. I really think the team is losing something by not keeping him on special teams
5
u/dkirk526 2d ago
I figured he'd make it because of special teams, but I'm assuming this means the team was very happy with Krys Barnes.
1
u/ryanxmerch 2d ago
I’m thinking one of the special teams spot is now being taken up by one of the 7 receivers having him on the outside looking in

Only surprise here for me is windmon, I thought he did solid in the few games he played for us last season

u/BraveEntrepreneur803 1d ago
Dan’s going to let Plummer clear waivers and then sign him to the practice squad. Don’t get too excited
4
u/Ok-Respond-9007 1d ago
And it's important to remember that a practice squad player doesn't always have to be the best option at that position.
As the practice squad QB, a lot of your job is running the scout team. He may be very good at that, which leads to him continuing to stick.
If either Bryce or Dalton get injured, I'd assume he would be passed over by another veteran signing.

Cutting both Plummer and Perkins is interesting. Hopefully they have a plan if something happens to the 2 QBs we have.

One will be back on PS after waivers. Would guess it's Plum
6
u/tre4dude Carolina Reaper 1d ago
He was like the first guy cut lol. I’d put Perkins on the PS and roll with it. If we lose both our rostered QB’s we’re fucked anyway

u/Sturdevant Bojangles 1d ago
Kyle Trask just got cut, he sucks but was was on Tampa's roster when Canales was there, wouldn't be surprised if he is brought in to be 3rd QB.

All reports are Arch isn’t declaring this year… with how much money he’s making in NIL it kind of makes sense

Fitz won the kicker battle so. Definitely not surprised.

u/FuckaDuck44 1d ago
I think theyre likely to take someone that is not on the current roster but have to keep him until then

u/LetMyDreamFlyOn Division Champs '15 2d ago
Perkins played in the nfl for like a week if that

u/Yada-Yada-Yadda 1d ago
A waste of time and money. Feel bad for him.
15
u/cashburro Bad Motherfucker 1d ago
Nah he knew there was a 0% chance of making a 53 with 6 days to go until cuts. Still a chance he signs to a PS

u/Yada-Yada-Yadda 1d ago
Good point, I always forget about the PS. How many players are on the PS?
2
u/cashburro Bad Motherfucker 1d ago
I think 16 but the number of vet spots are more limited. Don't remember the exact number.

u/GoatSmall4495 JJ Jansen 1d ago
Sam Franklin released by the broncos, maybe we could bring him back for special teams?
9
u/cashburro Bad Motherfucker 2d ago
Matthew wright just got released. Steelers are also planning to waive their kicker if they can't find a trade. He looked fantastic against us. I like Fitzgerald but I think at this point sauls has put more on tape
3
u/Ok-Respond-9007 2d ago
Sauls is the move if we can get him. He would have been a lock for most teams in the league.

Shy Tuttle Cut
Interestingly, the Broncos cut Sam Franklin. Hopefully, he comes back. The special teams desperately need him.

u/TCONtheGreat 1d ago
If they traded Thielen, who was the 7th receiver making the first 53. Unless there's some Renfrow injury issue I'm unaware of.

Sam Roberts released.
So bubble candidates remaining, 9 of the following will make the team...
WRs - Tremayne, Moore, Horn, Renfrow
TE - James Mitchell
OL - Carter, Kingston, Walton
DL- Tuttle, Ray (IR-DTR), Crumedy, Jackson, Harrison-Hunte
LB- Incoom, Rattigan, Barnes, Martin-Scott, Mwansa, DJ Johnson
DB- Thorton, Barthlomew, Evans, Richardson

Is Shy really on the bubble? I thought he did well last year.

You do realize we were one of five NFL teams in the history of the league to allow 3000+ rushing yards? Maybe he does better in a rotational roll and playing next to higher quality talent, but PFF had him as 206/220 amongst linemen in run defense. He's competing with Cam Jackson, Jaden Crumedy and Jared Harrison Hunte for a spot who are all younger and cheaper.

My list of 9: Tremayne, Horn Jr, Jackson, Ray, DJ Johnson, Thorton, Carter, Kingston, Martin-Scott/Rhattigan.
ExplanationMy assumptions: Considering they sat Tremayne for the last preseason game means he likely made the team. Also have to believe that due to preseason performance and lack of depth at their positions Jackson, Ray, DJ Johnson, and Thorton make the team. Also we're likely keeping one of those OL if not two for depth, let's assume 2 Carter and Kingston. Gotta believe Mitchell is gone based on the depth at TE. Bartholomew is also probably gone based on getting repeatedly cooked by 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string players during the preseason.
That leaves 2 spots between Moore, Horn Jr, Walton, Crumedy, Jackson, Harrison Hunte, Incoom, Rattigan, Martin-Scott, Mwansa, Evans, and Richardson. My gut says Horn Jr and Martin-Scott/Rhattigan.
2
u/dkirk526 1d ago
8 WRs and 11 Offensive Linemen is certainly a choice. Very likely we're going with 6-7 receivers and 9, maybe 10 on the OL. Probably 9 considering BC can play all five positions and Mays has played both guard spots and center.

u/Ok-Respond-9007 1d ago edited 1d ago
My expectations - Tremayne, Horn, Moore, Mitchell, Ray, Crumedy, Jackson, Martin Scott, Thornton
Trade AT. We will keep another player off this list, but they won't be here tomorrow.
3
u/dkirk526 1d ago
Keeping 8 WRs and only 3 safeties is a bold prediction.

I think we will trade Theilen and get a safety (Sam Franklin) from waivers.

S Isaac Gifford cut, per Joe Person: https://x.com/josephperson/status/1960068656160735475
7
u/dkirk526 2d ago
Gifford was the guy who got burnt on the deep ball to Scotty Miller at the end of the first half.
Akaylab Evans was in coverage, but it's a terrible look to have a receiver blow past you as a safety in a very obvious hail mary scenario where he should've been backed up way further than he was. Dude was trailing by 10 yards when the ball got there.

Mike Reid got waived. Why are they keeping Bartholomew?!
5
u/SuwaneeSupersonics Cookout 1d ago
My guess is he's a placeholder at that position until we can find a better replacement on waivers or through a trade.

u/dkirk526 1d ago
We haven't even finished all of the cuts. Still something like 12 or 13 players they need to cut.

For the name if nothing else. But yeah I was rooting for him too. Maybe PS, we could use some developmental depth at corner

Thank god Plummer is gone. I liked Kobe Hudson, but realistically there was no place for him on this roster with our current receiver depth

I can’t believe we haven’t traded Thielen yet
Get it done, Dan
-18
u/Accurate-Big-7233 Chuba Hubbard 1d ago
And before anyone downvotes and cries in the comments, he’s 35 and on an expiring contract
If we can get anything for him, it’d be awesome. A 4th would be a dream
5
u/Pure_Mint Retro Logo 1d ago
Go back and watch any of those games from the end of last year and tell me you would rather have a borderline prospect a year from now over someone who Bryce has undeniable trust in and is a proven vet. You would probably punt past the 50 too
-13
u/Accurate-Big-7233 Chuba Hubbard 1d ago
We aren’t making the fucking playoffs and we’re in the middle of a rebuild, how are people not seeing this?!
5
u/Pure_Mint Retro Logo 1d ago
Cmon now, wasn’t even talking about the playoffs. At some point the rebuild has to build, like our year 3 quarterback who needs to show up and show out the whole season. We can’t trade our most productive receiver for scraps and leave him with nothing but rookies, year 2s, and someone who hasn’t played in like two years. We have to build at some point in this rebuild, not just sit around and gather supplies

u/murderme_ 1d ago edited 3h ago
yes, a fourth would definitely be a dream. lot of folks chattering about a thielen deal that don't seem to have a great handle on what a 35 year old WR on an expiring contract is worth in a trade.
edit: well, color me delighted to learn that the vikings GM apparently has a head injury.
1
u/Accurate-Big-7233 Chuba Hubbard 1d ago
A lot of casuals in here, how they want to keep a guy who’s 35 on an expiring contract is so ridiculous lmao
These people also think we’re playoff bound lmao
4
u/murderme_ 1d ago
well, my point is actually the opposite of what you seem to think it is - thielen is effectively worth zero in a trade, meaning that he's more valuable on the roster than being moved just for the sake of making a deal.
