Question Calling pasta experts: can you ID this shape?

The fact of the matter is it’s not really a shape at all. It’s “hand rolled rigatoni”, which is a misnomer and oxymoron. It’s made by rolling a rectangle of dough across a gnocchi board with a dowel. So it’s similar to garganelli but without the angled edges because Garganelli are made with squares of dough rolled at a 45 degree angle.

It could maybe be Fusili Corti Bucati, though I can't tell if the spirals are hollow or not from the picture so I'm not certain.

Yeah I'm almost certain that a lot, if not all, of those linked photos are fake. I have been fascinated recently by a deluge of these very convincing AI recipe pictures, and while I can't pinpoint out exactly why, these have exactly that quality.

Not sure why you are being downvoted. Definitely agree with you that this looks like an AI photo to me. I see a lot of very realistic looking AI recipe pictures now, for some reason.

And those holes? It has to be so special... I searched for several different types, nothing.

For homemade dishes such as lasagna, spaghetti, mac and cheese etc. we encourage you to type out a basic recipe.
