Even if you considered it a casserole, which I'm not sure about the definition, it would be a pasta casserole and so would any other baked pasta, lasagne are a type of pasta and they are lasagne even before you bake them.

I see it as a casserole too. Pasta casserole, but casserole nonetheless. Pasta usually isn’t something you have to cut slices out of lol.

When you make lasagna, do you cook the pasta before layering or just place them in uncooked and let the baking cook it?

No, I never cook it, put it into the dish straight from the box, just making sure that slices in one layer do not ovelap. Otherwise thay would not get soft enough.
