They should put it as a higher tier and keep the same pricing for those that don't want the sports. They are doing the exact same thing that wrecked cable.

A bit of old news. Still it caused me to cancel. So instead of getting $139 from me a year... they're getting $0.
Based on the price increase they have a churn tolerance of about 16%. Which means the only way this price increase actually loses them money... is if 1 in 6 folks cancel. I don't see that happening.

My wife watches too much bravo to cancel, I just hope they have the annual black Friday deal again even if it is at a high price point

u/itssbritneybitch1 11d ago
there will be a 7.99/month option for just bravo shows but it will have ads 🫠

I've already canceled but my end date is in November. I was thinking if there was a BF deal I'd renew, but I suspect previous customers are excluded from those deals.

Peacock didn’t exclude existing members from Black Friday deal (at least as of last year). I’ve gotten it I think 3 yrs in a row now, no new email. Hulu you gotta change up emails.

"We're going to be losing subscribers because we are losing WWE. So to make up for the lost revenue, we will be raising your prices."
Fixed the email.

Streaming has started become prohibitively expensive… if only there was a solution to bring all content into a single lineup for a cheaper cost :P (ahem, traditional cable). Enjoy the NBA on Peacock or NFL on Netflix now…..the content and media space is such a fractured mess now because everyone hated cable (btw- this price increase is brought to you by Comcast ironically)

Correction: it’s because everyone hated cable and cable refused to allow a la carte packages and raised rates to obscene levels. I’d happily have continued subscribing if I could have picked a package of favorite channels plus local for say, 25 bucks per month with no friggin contracts.
I haven’t had cable since around 2005 (ditched it for the highest number of Netflix DVDs tier and never looked back) and I think if I continue using a mix of streamers bought on deals, and FAST channels for the rest of my life, I will still spend less in inflation-adjusted costs than I would have for traditional cable for the last 20 years.

You’re not wrong. But I think the net net output we’re approaching is worse than the initial solution…. Can’t stand how fragmented sports are, it’s bloody god awful

I think people forget how expensive and useless cable is/was. You could have every channel and there still wouldn't be anything worth watching, and you would be paying a lot more than if you had a select few streaming services.
I got fed up with cable because I wanted the science channel, but it was part of a high-tier premium package. And yet stations I did not want (like the music channels) were part of the expanded basic cable package. Like you said, if I could have picked what I wanted, I would have kept cable.

Exactly. I don’t give a tiny little rat’s ass about sports but to get anything I did want to see (science, history, more obscure and classic movies) I had to get the package with a gazillion sports channels that I never watched. And all the useless crap like home shopping and a dozen Jesus shouter channels could not be rejected.
I’m sorry that the cable disruption has finally come for sports and it does suck to have to follow your favorites from streamer to streamer. But I’m mostly annoyed to be forced to again help subsidize something I only truly care about for a month every two years when the Olympics come around.
The one thing I did miss was flipping through channels when bored and wanting mindless distraction to stumble onto the second half of a favorite movie or an episode of a game show I hadn’t seen since the 1980s, and I was delighted when Pluto came along with a reasonable facsimile of that experience as well.

I mean, for those who are in it for sports, you can still sub to cable TV. They may have lost whole, lion's shares of subscribers, but they're def. still around.
But for the rest of us who don't care about sports.. Streaming is the way to go. My parent's cable TV bill is $92/mo, which does NOT include $24/mo for 2 "TV Box + remote" fee/rental. I can get any, major ss for just $10 to $20/mo, ad-free, and on demand! Any one of them is enough to last me from one month to the other, but having 3 can easily put you on par with cable TV, and be about half that price.

Agreed to a degree. Movies and TV shows are now paywalled behind apps to a large degree…

Haha just signed up because I was watching Chicago Med. Nope, not doing the price increase game.

u/StrummerBass101 11d ago
Went to cancel and got an offer of like 3 bucks a month for a while with ads. I think I hate ads enough to not take them up on that offer

u/MsMercyMain 11d ago
Ironically peacock is the only service where I actually prefer ads, but that’s because I use it for my Chicago Fire, Brooklyn Nine Nine, and my most bizarre comfort show SVU. I feel like those work best with ads

Thanks for the info. I have not gotten notice yet but probably will soon. I was happy to get a year for around $19.99 I think it was and it runs till next spring. But I will not be renewing at the $79.99 price.

u/mhowie 11d ago
Not many who have that price would consider renewing at such a higher price. It's just not worth it.

u/vnzjunk 10d ago
Yup, I agree. I rarely use it actually except for the occasional College Football and Basketball game that is exclusive on that network although I find that many of those games also appear on the affiliated OTA local network channel. Of course via this method you only get your local game although there may be several others airing at the same time on the OTA network

I only get peacock through Black Friday otherwise I would cancel it. I wouldn’t even though I watch NBA a lot not worth the price.

Thank god you posted this…
The other dozens of these posts somehow slipped by me

u/clandahlina_redux 11d ago
My thoughts exactly. People don’t even check to see if something has been posted.

Canceled peacock, Max, and paramount. Not worth the increases. Only have Netflix because its through T-Mobile.

u/queenfreakalene 11d ago
Quite a jump indeed, and unfortunately for peacock, their streaming service isn't worth the extra money...

u/Troztim99 11d ago
I watch a lot of Network shows especially in the fall, and it's cheaper to subscribe to Peacock,Hulu and Paramount Plus separately than it is live tv with local channels.

u/williamtowne 9d ago
Three English Premier League matches on Peacock this week, naturally the matches few would want to see. That's all.
Just came here just to say that I am canceling that service right now.

In my opinion it is not even worth the old prices. I subscribed for my daughter and tried it. No value IMHO. Cancelled after a couple of months.

Some of you people need to learn about some free apps that offer everything and more then all these subscription services put together. I haven't had cable or any subscription in over 6 years.

People like you are the reason the prices keep going up for the rest of us.

Crazy. Dropping ability to pay for no ads monthly in the middle of an annual deal was the last straw for me. $14 per month for annual is crazy for such little content.
