Where was this enthusiasm in November?

Harris got 46% of the vote in AZ - that is a lot of people.

Keep in mind, the voter suppression laws passed in the past couple of years alone caused 3.4 million votes to be purged.

There was a ton of enthusiasm but there was also a ton of election rigging.

That’s what I say. It’s nice seeing the protests now but my question is whether any of these people voted - you know, the place where real change happens

Damn! My Time Machine is broken. Can I borrow yours?

I voted. That doesn’t mean we roll over and let a fascist asshole just waltz on in.

What does a Time Machine have anything to do with my comment? You voted- great! My point was how many others who are protesting now didn’t vote back in Nov.

Any my point is… it doesn’t matter. That’s in the past. Sitting around and bitching about the past won’t improve anything. We can’t change anything that happened last year, but we can change the future.

Oh really? How exactly does the No Kings protest “change the future”? Don’t get me wrong, I’m sympathetic to the cause, but I’m also bitter that Maricopa went for Trump in 2024. Voting is more important than protesting- one has an actual impact on society whereas the other does not.

Eh, I'm not sure that strictly follows. If every single soul that turned out today voted Kamala it still wouldn't have mattered. Maybe if we assume they weren't already Kamala voters, or they're regretful trump voters thats enough to have swung it, but I suspect there's a large overlap between folks that voted blue and folks that are out there right now.

The fact of the matter is its a lot harder to get people to deviate from their daily lives before the bad stuff starts happening.

That may be true. Maricopa is a very large county after all. I’m just being cynical. I am happy that there was a great turnout today, even if it’s just symbolic

Probably not many BUT normally American voters shrug it off when their candidate loses. Protests this big across the country is not normal and it’s a big sign that normal people are getting fed up. Any Republican Senator or Representative up for re-election in the midterms is breaking into a sweat about this. Midterms usually don’t pull a lot of voters. Today is telling them there will be a very sizable turnout.

Trump is cooked if he can’t declare martial law and cancel the elections. That today’s protests were so ridiculously peaceful is killing his plans.

3.5% of Americans showed up yesterday. That is huge, and will create change. If you need more explanation, Pod Save America did an episode today about that size turn out.

Actually I did read this was the third largest protest in us history. So that’s very much a good thing. I still wish the same enthusiasm was present in November. I know there were people who sat out the election because they didn’t like the choices- as if a perfect candidate exists…

Yes, but we have to stop talking about those who sat out, and move on to what can be done. Here's a great article from the BBC about what it does for change.
