Idk how people can live here long term and not realize you dont park underneath trees for more than just a shopping trip

Depends on the Tree, Iron woods and Desert Oaks and even Olive trees don't break, Eucalyptus and Palo Verdes and Pines on the other hand are car killers. Especially eucalyptus, the main tree might say up, but it will drop some nasty branches (like what happened to OPs 528i).

The point is don't park under trees. Don't try and calculate if said tree will fall, just avoid it

Olive trees? Neighbor would like to have a say on this.
To clarify, lots of big branches, but the main trunk is fine.

You can get the non-fruiting kind, I believe that is what they have on Central along the bridle path. Those have been up for decades.

Nah even those ones drop olives along Central. I step in them all the time.
**At least, enough do that I notice it.

The plus of parking under/near trees is the shade they provide. The negative is often bird crap on your car. Or in extreme cases the tree on your car.

Sad thing is with the cost of cars right now, I am betting the Insurance company will opt to fix it rather than total it out.

The bottom line is that the victim usually loses out. Even if you get your money, you still have time wasted on the phone, dealing with insurance, getting estimates, dropping off the car, getting a rental, picking up the car, taking time off from work to do a lot of this stuff. It all adds up.

The eucalyptus tree did them a favor. That BMW was going to make its way onto a tow truck one way or another.

Does anyone know if the dust is dangerous to in hail? The news talks air quality and no burn days in the winter. But what's in this dust? Do they ever take a sample and see what's in this dust? I used to drink beer and sit out and watch. After 9/11 and that dust was full of asbestos and that killed many people. I wonder if these dust storms (nobody calls them haboobs) are they full of Round Up weed killer and other toxic chemicals that these storms get off the desert floor (nobody calls it the 'valley')

You parked under trees in these storms? Thats the #1 thing to be aware of this season

Shit turned biblical last night apparently. Definitely cooler morning. Time to clean up. Good day to be a tree guy business just picked up.
