I am frankly kind of amazed he let himself be taken in alive.

6.2k

u/Spiritual-Matters Jun 16 '25

Maybe he’s hoping some corruption will save him

83

u/looneysquash Jun 16 '25

Part of me hopes the administration tries that, and openly enough that it destroys the administration.

To be clear, assuming he is guilty, he should never see the light of day.

He committed a state crime. President can't pardon state crimes.

Edit: The fact so many people are responding to this with "Well he'll do it anyway and no one will stop him!" is proof that the educational system in this country is broken. Don't be as delusional as Trumpers, people.

u/dickWithoutACause Jun 16 '25 edited Jun 16 '25

"People are saying I can. Many people are saying it. We'll have to get the lawyers on that"

-Trump in 6 mos probably.

Edit to respond to the top comment's edit:

My fake quote is almost verbatim what trump has already said about running for a third term, another blatantly unconstitutional act he wants to do so I'm not sure what he is talking about with the educational system.

Trump has a proven record of pushing established norms to seize more power for the executive or I'm sure in his mind just himself, nothing is stopping him from trying this and little is in the way to tell him no.

None of this is normal, the fact that this is even being discussed as a possibility is proof of how degraded and strained the system has become over the last ten years and that should be obvious to anyone who was over voting age before the age of Trump.

It's up to all of us to keep this time a strange and unexplainable chapter in the history books rather than a crossing of the Rubicon moment historians will shake their head over how obvious it all looks in hindsight.

Dont let people gaslight you, it was those same people that got trump reelected. Had things gone The other way trump would be standing trial for obstructing the election and attempting a coup. NONE OF THIS IS NORMAL.

941

u/Jonatc87 Jun 16 '25

exactly. "He can't do x" until he does X. And people go along with it, because nobody stops it. The system is designed to question things with courts, but never considered what happens if they ignore the court or break too much too fast.

421

u/faceplanted Jun 16 '25

I think the biggest thing to come out of Trump's tenure, assuming the US get him out of office and go back to some semblance of normal presidencies, is going to be that everyone in the world has just had a masterclass on how power actually works.

Decades of politicians and media building up the illusion that there's a system in place that means not having the power to do something is the same as there being physically no button to press or number to call and people standing around waiting to stop you if you try anyway. All washed away at once by a guy with a lifetime of experience ignoring rules and his billionaire friend sending FBI goons to just invade the building if they don't get what they want.

257

u/StealthRUs Jun 16 '25

This exact comment could've been written back in 2019, yet people allowed Trump to become President again.

The founders of Vance’s church Jordan Family Church, Kenn and Laura Krause are to blame for Vance’s radicalization. Church released a statement to try to cover their asses (https://www.jordanfamilychurch.com). They are MAGA pro-lifers. Their members used to belong to Bethany Church in Bloomington and are alumni of Bethany Global University, both accused of being cults.

Maybe they were going for a vacation to El Salvador. I hear it is difficult for them to send back people to America from there

244

u/innersanctum44 Jun 16 '25

I have read in the mpls star tribune paper he has a background in security and operated (currently?) a company that would provide armed personnel and only armed personnel. En route to El Salvador to go work for Erik Prince of Blackwater infamy who now operates "security" and "consultancy" to the ES govt? I have no idea.

I'd like to know of the church that sponsored his Congolese "mission" trip. I have not read of church membership in several articles.

173

u/8_guy Jun 16 '25

I think the most current information is he had a security company registered to his home address, and nobodies been able to find evidence he had any clients or did anything. From wikipedia

On Boelter's social media accounts, he claimed to have had military training and a career in private security, but in actuality he has "no history working in law enforcement, the military or private security."[25] A friend of his said Boelter made various claims about his life that were "fantasy."

He did some evangelizing in the Congo and then spun that into a story about some security company he had there as well, it sounds like.

This. Timothy McVeigh was caught on a traffic stop because he didn’t have plates on his car and the sheriff found a loaded gun in the car. They had him in jail and nearly released him after a court hearing by the time the FBI figured out who the bomber was. Ironically, the court was delayed in processing him because of the bombing.

If he hadn’t got popped for the plate he would have been long gone with a 24 hour headstart.

361

u/Glitch29 Jun 16 '25

It's bad public policy to effectively reward killers by platforming their views.

Beyond satisfying people's morbid curiosity, there's nothing to be gained from sharing anything he has to say.

If you really want to see crackpot manifestos, I'm sure you can find them in some of the internet's more unsavory places. The truth is that whatever drivel this guy wrote had no public value before he shot four people, and those acts didn't magically change that fact.

35

u/wbruce098 Jun 16 '25

This. The murder just happened. There’s the prosecution to be made, and releasing such information before the verdict could also be said to influence the jury selection. It’ll likely be used in court as evidence if relevant.

And might be released to the public after his conviction. Or not. We don’t need to know.

I always ALWAYS go back to this essay by Orwell on nationalism:

All nationalists have the power of not seeing resemblances between similar sets of facts. A British Tory will defend self-determination in Europe and oppose it in India with no feeling of inconsistency.

The nationalist not only does not disapprove of atrocities committed by his own side, but he has a remarkable capacity for not even hearing about them. For quite six years the English admirers of Hitler contrived not to learn of the existence of Dachau and Buchenwald. And those who are loudest in denouncing the German concentration camps are often quite unaware, or only very dimly aware, that there are also concentration camps in Russia. Huge events like the Ukraine famine of 1933, involving the deaths of millions of people, have actually escaped the attention of the majority of English russophiles. Many English people have heard almost nothing about the extermination of German and Polish Jews during the present war. Their own antisemitism has caused this vast crime to bounce off their consciousness.

https://www.orwellfoundation.com/the-orwell-foundation/orwell/essays-and-other-works/notes-on-nationalism/

It just fits like a glove for everything we see today, the tribes may have changed but the psychology behind it has not.

In r/conservative, I saw someone make a list of the domestic terrorists over the past two years or so to (falsely) point out how they were all democrats that became conservatives just before they committed their act of violence.

I had no idea the prevailing belief in MAGA was that every domestic terrorist is a Democrat, and the ones that aren’t Democrats trying to frame Republicans. Keep in mind, these are the same people that hosted a “We Are All Donestic Terrorists” panel at CPAC and celebrated January 6th.

The level of delusion and double think of conservatives absolutely blows my mind. They do not exist in reality anymore, and I just don’t know how they can come back from that. This country has been irreparably damaged.

It grinds my gears these folks live in one of the most liberal states in the country, are prosperous through liberal policy, but still think they aren't reaching the potential of.... IDK what exactly. They just want to be seals.

My favorite part is how the same party that led a violent insurrection, hunted lawmakers inside the capitol, and chanted "hang Mike Pence" which they were all PARDONED for, are trying to condemn this with "there's no place for political violence in this country" like they aren't completely OK with it as long as it's their side doing it.

181

u/ihavahairyass Jun 16 '25

I find it funny. He’s a democrat that was a Trump fan and voted for Trump, and was against many democrat views from what I’ve learned. How could one really convince themselves he’s a democrat? Like, other than the Walz appointment, what else is there? Lol

99

u/Soggy-Beach1403 Jun 16 '25

The Walz appointment was to a non-partisan board to promote business in MN. Dems, unlike the GOP, are willing to reach across the aisle if it helps Americans. The GOP only wants to foment hate.

53

u/Gryjane Jun 16 '25

Dems, unlike the GOP, are willing to reach across the aisle

This wasn't even a case of reaching across the aisle as politics isn't even a consideration for appointment to the workforce development board. It consists of dozens of non-political people from the business, labor and employment, training and/or education communities nominated by many different groups or individuals for review and potential appointment by the governor and are required to be representative of different communities throughout the state. Here's the governing statute: https://www.congress.gov/113/bills/hr803/BILLS-113hr803enr.pdf

"Actually he was a Democrat" is their biggest tell for whatever is happening is too horrible even for them to justify. They did the same thing with that crazy right wing kid that shot at Trump

190

u/OkFineIllUseTheApp Jun 16 '25

And Jan 6 was ANTIFA, until they got pardons, then Trump pardoned real loyal patriots.

Honestly there's no point arguing with them. Call them a liar and move on, because they don't believe it either.

But did he Photoshop “MS-13” on a picture of a guy’s hand??? /s

47

u/karlverkade Jun 16 '25

That was the final straw of faith in humanity for me. Like it wasn’t even photoshopped. It was annotated. Someone typed notes on the photo. We’ve been doing this since 1988. It wasn’t even meant to look real. When I saw that exchange I knew humans were done for.

This is 100% deliberate misinformation, the workforce board that the Democratic governor appointed him to is a bipartisan board that has nothing to do with party affiliation... This is so disgusting. Literally all of them have convinced themselves. He's a Democrat and there's nothing you can do to change their opinion of it even though his literal best friend and former roommate said he was a maga supporter. Someone's trying to tell me the fact he had no King's poster means 100%, he's a radical liberal Democrat. I hate this f****** timeline

17

u/Kenkenken1313 Jun 16 '25

And when you mention the best friend they’ll state that they can’t trust what he says and all the research they did shows the guy was a Democrat.

The party of terrorism is functioning like a well oiled machine.

711

u/UnknownExo Jun 16 '25

If the guy voted once in a democratic primary Fox News would paint him as a domestic terrorist that hates America

If the guy is a MAGAt then he's a lone wolf with mental health issues and we shouldn't paint the MAGA movement with a broad brush

I made 1 post (a reply) in the Republican sub and I received a permanent ban for it (still can't believe it, lol). Literally, this was my exact post:

"On his hit list were abortion clinics and pro-choice people.

This guy wasn't a liberal. He doesn't seem to identify with a party, but certainly doesn't appear to hold leftist views."

I got perm banned for that, no warning, because they claimed that I was posting anti-republican and leftist ideology.

Anti-Republican bc I was posting facts 🤣. Snowflakes
