Presidents can't do a lot of things that this administration is doing so I wouldn't be so sure.

The only control is impeachment. Full stop. The senate. Even then the senate doesn't have troops or police to enforce only the people. Nixon had years of protests and riots to make him think twice. Not to mention it was a different time

Then they can do it. It’s that simple. Doy.

Please explain exactly what you think Trump could do about this.

Ignore the law and continue doing whatever he wants.

Cool. So Minnesota will completely ignore him, then try and convict the murderer.

Yea, probably. And then trump will promote a loyalist into a brand new committee in charge of undoing whatever he needs to undo in a state trying to defy him.

And Minnesota will continue to ignore him and this dude will still be in prison.

Until trump busts him out citing a new law.

Literally can't happen. Minnesota will continue to ignore Trump's tantrums and the man will rot in jail.

It literally can. If enough Marines with enough guns show up at the prison, they can physically remove him and transport him elsewhere regardless of how the state of Minnesota feels about it.

Trump isn't actually going to do this, because he doesn't actually care whether or not this dude rots in jail. But if he wanted to, the only thing stopping him would be the naïve hope that the military would refuse the order.

You think the US military is going to invade Minnesota to forcibly bust a murderer out of jail? You are utterly delusional.

I find it a bit telling about our current state of affairs that so many people replying to you seem to believe that the states are subservient to the federal government. We have a crisis in civics education in this country...and it's working out well for Trump's desire to gain power. People seem to assume that presidents have powers far greater than they really do.

You can’t possibly think your statement reflects the commenters saying he will do it anyway. What do you think they are saying when they say that? Do you frequently say normal things will “be done ANYWAY”?

There is no "he'll do it anyway" in this situation. The State of Minnesota is under no obligation to give two shits about a presidential pardon for people convicted under their laws. That's what people like you seem to be failing to understand.
