What a head of hair though.

961

u/majj27 13d ago

My kid had a dark mop like that when she was born too. It all fell out in a hurry, though. Then her Hair Mk II started coming in and went all ringlets on us.

247

u/amh8011 13d ago

My sister had a full head of dark hair when she was born. Even more than this girl. It never fell out. She needed her first hair cut at 6mo. She now has an undercut and lots of layers and it’s still super thick. It grows so fast too she has to reshave her undercut at least every other week.

I was born with a little bit of hair in a ring around the top of my head and it all fell out pretty quickly. It grew back around 9mo and grew to about ear length by a year and then stopped growing until I was 2.5yo. But I did have pretty little curls. Hers was pin straight until high school and now it’s very slightly wavy.

46

u/Thick_Bullfrog_3640 13d ago edited 13d ago

My daughter and I both were like your sister. My daughter needed her first haircut at the age of 6mos. That hair was a hot mess!!

I didn't realize how uncommon it was to come out with a full on wig worth of hair when she was born. Couldnt take her anywhere without people stopping and trying to converse with me about it.

My niece was born bald and by kindergarten still had no real hair to speak of. Her hair finally started growing around age 7 and her hair was/is super thick. Humans are weird.

To be fair, Chilean adults are much smaller than American adults too. Most other nations' adults are. Let's not single out the kids.

162

u/Rustichello_da_Pisa 13d ago

I mean, average male height in the US is 175 cm and in Chile it’s 173 cm.

So let’s not pretend like Americans are giants next to Chileans, because on average, that’s not the case.

The US is a flawed democracy, but it is significantly more stable and functional than most other countries. Or it was, pre-Trump. That is why so people illegally cross the border to get to the US.

I think a lot of Americans really underestimate how bad things can get.

59

u/writeyourwayout 13d ago

And how fast they can get that way.

42

u/Lost-Specialist1505 13d ago

Proportional-ish representation, direct presidential elections, multi-ish party system, very short history of the law meddling in internal party affairs to mandate "primaries" so that still hasn't fucked them up.

Chile is kinda a weird country geography speaking. They were protected by the mountains so the Spanish never fully conquered them, they were pretty isolated after that, had some good trading ports for Europeans going to Asia through the Straight of Magellan. But today 75% of the populations live in Santiago metro area. And most people in cities are pretty liberal so a young guy with his policies is a great candidate. I am not sure if there is a bigger country in world where that high of a percentage lives in one city, Know Iceland has higher but not nearly the size.

40

u/SaintsNoah14 13d ago

Wow, I had no idea Chile was one of those one-cith countries. As for largest, nearly half of Mongolia (18th largest by area) lives in Ulaanbaatar

41

u/_solounwnmas 13d ago

We aren't, 60% of us live outside of the capital, op was wrong about the figure

→ More replies (2)

11

u/Yayareasports 13d ago

Yeah Mongolia is a good one if qualifying for size. Without that qualifier, examples like Vatican City is 100% of Vatican City, and similarly Monaco, and I imagine there are other similarly small countries with very high ratios (Singapore, Kuwait)

40

u/ChieflyFlyoverRomeo 13d ago

I'm sorry but this is wrong. It's like 30% of the population, not 75.

Also what do you mean the Spanish never fully conquered THEM? who are "them"? Chileans are literally a product of Spaniards mixing with indigenous people, with most Chileans having a higher percentage of Spanish ancestry than native.

11

u/SeparateFun1288 13d ago

clearly Chile was an advanced civilization with dozens of millions of population and so the spanish never conquered them!

/s

16

u/SeparateFun1288 13d ago edited 13d ago

There is no "the Spanish never fully conquered them" because the Republic of Chile is just the sucessor state of the Captaincy/Kingdom of Chile.

There wasn't a revolution of the indigenous people, it was just pro independence spaniards vs royalist spaniards. In fact, indigenous people fought for both sides. The Governor of the Kingdom of Chile was pro independence and his son was royalist. One of the "founders", Jose Miguel Carrera was the great-grandson of the Governor.

That's basically a civil war.

If with "never fully conquered them" you mean the spanish were not able to conquer or establish themselves in all the claimed territories, then it doesn't mean anything because the Republic of Chile ended the Arauco war and conquered everything to the south during the Occupation of Araucanía, so the Republic of Chile incorporated BY FORCE, the indigenous territories.

The last Mapuche uprising of 1881 ended with hundreds if not thousands of deaths under the hands of the chilean military.

Is not coincidence that there are cities called Valdivia, Nueva Imperial, San Felipe or that the coat of arms of Santiago is still the spanish one from 1552.

There are just so many amazing photos of him interacting with children - his own, those of his staff, those belonging to total strangers, that are endearing and not creepy nor incestuous. Unfortunately, that president was not lily white so half an entire nation melted down and elected a child sex trafficker who wants to fuck his own daughter.

Chile was by far the best country my wife and I have travelled to. It was our favorite trip by a long shot. I highly recommend making it one of your destinations if your able to travel

19

u/BigBrownBalls 13d ago

What did you like about it?

63

u/socool111 13d ago edited 13d ago

Absolutely stunning country. We started in the north at the Atacama Desert where we were 13K feet above sea level on the highest plateau in the world. So we did multiple outdoor trips from hiking, hiking, swimming, wildlife sightseeing etc. then we checked out the wine country which had a different feel- if wine ain’t your scene you can skip…then we flew across the country (or rather down south) to Patagonia where we did more hiking and boating and other activities but an entirely different feel, almost like another country entirely. And then we wrapped with going to Santiago which had a ton of culture, cuisine and feel…depends if your into checking out big cities on your trips or not, I wouldn’t say there was anything special for Santiago other than absorbing the culture (something like 70 or 80% of the population lives there)

Edit: misremembered fact it’s actually a third of the population - still pretty interesting that so many are concentrated in one area

50

u/ArielScync 13d ago edited 13d ago

Don't worry, we're poised to elect the son of a literal Nazi who fled Germany after the war (many such cases). You know, to get in touch with the current state of the world.

16

u/zoopysreign 13d ago

Did the pandemic make us all go nuts? Just tons of bad news and along with climate change, people are just freaking out, with half of us leaning into authoritarianism?

4

u/Safe-Yogurtcloset782 13d ago

The opressors played their cards well with radicalizing the people through the internet while they were all locked up with nowhere to look but their phones.

Addicting cycle + Heavy propaganda + The actual funds to make it happen (the richest man in the world is a literal neo nazi who also bought a mayor social media platform) + Giving 'solace' in a moment of crisis to the lonely and scared

Fear is a strong factor too, most people don't understand what it means to have an authoritarian goverment, but "if they take the jews and the sexual deviants out", why not. Also people are just fucking stupid and unempathetic sometimes .

29

u/rockerode 13d ago

I know, Chile and much of south america has had centuries now of chaos. Not like me being from the USA is any different. One side of my family assisted in wiping out California natives (Portuguese descent) and the other than has been on the American east coast doing the same since the 1600s.

Legitimately tho, anyone I have met from chile during my time in California have been wonderful individuals who have very intellect mindsets. Obviously that's not everyone! But left a nice little +1 to me

20

u/autopoiesies 13d ago

I do have to say we've been (thus far) very "centered" people, we'd never elect a clown like trump for instance, as soon as you're seen on tv mocking journalists or having records of misconduct, doesn't matter what party you're from, you're done in the public sphere

we're very sane in that sense... again... so far

My son is 14 months and he never did this once. I am wondering if I am blessed by God or something.

u/forsale90 13d ago

Mine did this at 17 mo due to sickness, so don't think you are safe

u/Elawn 13d ago

I missed the “mo” in your comment the first time I read it and thought you were saying your kid puked on you as a 17-year-old lol

u/forsale90 13d ago

He's 2 yo, so no idea what the future holds.

I had pneumonia at 8 and threw up captain crunch on my dad as he carried me to the bathroom. It's never too late. I still remember the look of horror on his face.

My son spit up, but didn't really throw up until he was like 4 or so.

Poor guy got so confused when it finally happened. He was in his carseat and was just like "What happened? What is this?"

"You barfed, buddy. You're ok."

He's 9 now and still says "barf." It's pretty funny.

Yeah maybe you're blessed. I've been thrown up on by kids and I don't have a kid, and have almost never babysat in my life.

Once I was at some Christmas play and the kid sitting behind me barfed all over my hair and collar. And another time I was riding in a car with my friend and her kid got carsick. I tried to help by quickly getting a bag in front of him, but some of it got on me too.

He looks like a regular-ass dude. That's what we need more of in this country. People in political positions being regular-ass people. I don't think it was intended that we would have professional politicians holding a seat for 30 years. The representatives are supposed to be OF the people. The people we have now are so far up their own asses they can't identify with regular folk any more. This is on both sides of the aisle, btw.

I love new parents. Everything their baby does is adorable, new, and amazing! From the vomit to their first soiling of their diapers. Cue two weeks later and they're raggedy and saying, we have to deal with this shit for two more years?!?

Still, this is a thankful eyebleach considering new parents tribulations are far nicer to talk about than the hellscape going on right now.

How the fuck are people running countries with infants? Like, I barely had enough energy to shower at that stage .

Jacinda Ardern gave birth while she was Prime Minister of New Zealand. She was nursing her baby daughter (good for her!) and took her along to the UN at 3 months old, with Ardern’s partner accompanying as “primary carer.” (I was also in the barely bathing category.)

Meanwhile, our president shouldn’t be allowed within 500 feet of any school or daycare.
