My sister had a full head of dark hair when she was born. Even more than this girl. It never fell out. She needed her first hair cut at 6mo. She now has an undercut and lots of layers and it’s still super thick. It grows so fast too she has to reshave her undercut at least every other week.
I was born with a little bit of hair in a ring around the top of my head and it all fell out pretty quickly. It grew back around 9mo and grew to about ear length by a year and then stopped growing until I was 2.5yo. But I did have pretty little curls. Hers was pin straight until high school and now it’s very slightly wavy.

My daughter and I both were like your sister. My daughter needed her first haircut at the age of 6mos. That hair was a hot mess!!
I didn't realize how uncommon it was to come out with a full on wig worth of hair when she was born. Couldnt take her anywhere without people stopping and trying to converse with me about it.

The US is a flawed democracy, but it is significantly more stable and functional than most other countries. Or it was, pre-Trump. That is why so people illegally cross the border to get to the US.
I think a lot of Americans really underestimate how bad things can get.

Proportional-ish representation, direct presidential elections, multi-ish party system, very short history of the law meddling in internal party affairs to mandate "primaries" so that still hasn't fucked them up.

Chile is kinda a weird country geography speaking. They were protected by the mountains so the Spanish never fully conquered them, they were pretty isolated after that, had some good trading ports for Europeans going to Asia through the Straight of Magellan. But today 75% of the populations live in Santiago metro area. And most people in cities are pretty liberal so a young guy with his policies is a great candidate. I am not sure if there is a bigger country in world where that high of a percentage lives in one city, Know Iceland has higher but not nearly the size.
40
u/SaintsNoah14 13d ago
Wow, I had no idea Chile was one of those one-cith countries. As for largest, nearly half of Mongolia (18th largest by area) lives in Ulaanbaatar
41
u/_solounwnmas 13d ago
We aren't, 60% of us live outside of the capital, op was wrong about the figure
→ More replies (2)11
u/Yayareasports 13d ago
Yeah Mongolia is a good one if qualifying for size. Without that qualifier, examples like Vatican City is 100% of Vatican City, and similarly Monaco, and I imagine there are other similarly small countries with very high ratios (Singapore, Kuwait)
40
u/ChieflyFlyoverRomeo 13d ago
I'm sorry but this is wrong. It's like 30% of the population, not 75.
Also what do you mean the Spanish never fully conquered THEM? who are "them"? Chileans are literally a product of Spaniards mixing with indigenous people, with most Chileans having a higher percentage of Spanish ancestry than native.
11
u/SeparateFun1288 13d ago
clearly Chile was an advanced civilization with dozens of millions of population and so the spanish never conquered them!
/s
→ More replies (11)16
u/SeparateFun1288 13d ago edited 13d ago
There is no "the Spanish never fully conquered them" because the Republic of Chile is just the sucessor state of the Captaincy/Kingdom of Chile.
There wasn't a revolution of the indigenous people, it was just pro independence spaniards vs royalist spaniards. In fact, indigenous people fought for both sides. The Governor of the Kingdom of Chile was pro independence and his son was royalist. One of the "founders", Jose Miguel Carrera was the great-grandson of the Governor.
That's basically a civil war.
If with "never fully conquered them" you mean the spanish were not able to conquer or establish themselves in all the claimed territories, then it doesn't mean anything because the Republic of Chile ended the Arauco war and conquered everything to the south during the Occupation of Araucanía, so the Republic of Chile incorporated BY FORCE, the indigenous territories.
The last Mapuche uprising of 1881 ended with hundreds if not thousands of deaths under the hands of the chilean military.
Is not coincidence that there are cities called Valdivia, Nueva Imperial, San Felipe or that the coat of arms of Santiago is still the spanish one from 1552.

Absolutely stunning country. We started in the north at the Atacama Desert where we were 13K feet above sea level on the highest plateau in the world. So we did multiple outdoor trips from hiking, hiking, swimming, wildlife sightseeing etc. then we checked out the wine country which had a different feel- if wine ain’t your scene you can skip…then we flew across the country (or rather down south) to Patagonia where we did more hiking and boating and other activities but an entirely different feel, almost like another country entirely. And then we wrapped with going to Santiago which had a ton of culture, cuisine and feel…depends if your into checking out big cities on your trips or not, I wouldn’t say there was anything special for Santiago other than absorbing the culture (something like 70 or 80% of the population lives there)
Edit: misremembered fact it’s actually a third of the population - still pretty interesting that so many are concentrated in one area

The opressors played their cards well with radicalizing the people through the internet while they were all locked up with nowhere to look but their phones.
Addicting cycle + Heavy propaganda + The actual funds to make it happen (the richest man in the world is a literal neo nazi who also bought a mayor social media platform) + Giving 'solace' in a moment of crisis to the lonely and scared
Fear is a strong factor too, most people don't understand what it means to have an authoritarian goverment, but "if they take the jews and the sexual deviants out", why not. Also people are just fucking stupid and unempathetic sometimes .

I don't think it was intended that we would have professional politicians holding a seat for 30 years. The representatives are supposed to be OF the people.
