We lived in Chicago for years and recently moved back to our home state. The number of boomers that clutch their chests and exclaim “Thank god you made it out!” Is hilarious. Like they genuinely think we’re walking to the L with an AK-47 strapped to our back, dodging gunfire and shattered glass.

Conservatives love to boast (I don't know what else to call it) about being terrified of various cities, and then they get mad when you call them cowards lol.

Over on the conservative sub I saw one guy spouting about how “all these liburls saying DC is safe are crazy and have never been there! They don’t know what it’s like here!!

Click profile. All his state related posts are in Idaho.

They complain about cities they have never been to; seemingly “justified” to them because they saw it on newsmax. Yet testimony from people who live there doesn’t hold any weight.

Before January 6, the soon-to-be-insurrectionists were telling each other to get hotel rooms in Maryland or Virginia and certainly NOT east of 16th St NW because they'd be killed for sure

Modern conservatism is just giving yourself the thinnest skin possible, boasting about it, and making it everyone else's problem.

I have a conservative roommate (I NEED the money) and after one of her verbal rambles I asked her if there was anything she WASN’T afraid of. She took that with ill humor. The silence after was golden.

and then they get mad when you call them cowards lol.

They literally feel the need to open carry at their corner starbucks while getting a coffee in a town where the last 10 gun deaths where accidental discharges.

Calling them cowards is a bit insulting towards cowards.

Moved to Chicago from DC. All those people who claimed last year that Chicago was a war zone and “idk how you live there and survive,” apparently were living in the same war zone and didn’t know?

Haven’t gotten to throw it back in anyone’s face yet. “Oh yeah I heard DC is a war zone? How do you survive?”

News flash. People street park range rovers in Chicago just like they do in DC.

I was in Chicago for more than 12 years in four different neighborhoods, including a couple lower-income ones, and never had a single problem.

I lived in Rogers Park, off Howard. My car got tossed once, and my inflatable paddleboard was stolen. Tracked it down myself the same day and traded it back for 5 beers. The dude apologized for messing with someone from the neighborhood and we never had another issue.

My parents have a really similar story from living in Pilsen in the 80's.

I know your old neighborhood well, I spent most of the last decade staying on Jonquil & Paulina. The block gets colorful for sure, but normal civilians and residents almost never have problems.

Thats not even an out of state sentiment either. The boomers in Illinois suburbs think all of Chicago is a war zone and never even set foot near downtown.

It all makes sense when you understand that when they say "Crime" what they mean is Black People.
"Those cities are full of <black people>"
"<Black people> is on the rise across the country"
"We want politicians who are tough on <Black People>"
"We don't want more public transportation because we're worried it will increase <black people> in our neighborhood."
"We need more police, with better funding and fewer restrictions, so they can effectively fight <black people>"
I'm deadass serious. These people so much as see a black person, they immediately believe the neighborhood is a crime ridden hellhole. When they say "Crime", they mean "Black"
