If this is what Dems need to do to win elections, so be it. Idiocracy arrived a decade ago, it's time Democrats realize that.

If so, then we need to stop waiting to be saved by help from above, and instead to start caring for, and protecting, our own communities.

you think anybody is going to out-troll trump?

Branding is what sells. If this gives dems the branding they need to get people to go vote, so be it.

Seriously 25 years ago, there were two parties. Parties. Think of them as actual parties.
The Republican party had whiskey and cheap beer, guns, cool cars and trucks, and in the back room, a guy who could get you a 6 figure job at an investment bank.
The Democratic party had weed, crazy sex, and great music, and in the back room, was somebody who could get you a solid job doing something useful that wouldn't destroy your soul.
Now, the Republicans are still the party of whiskey and cheap beer, guns, and cool cars and trucks...and the Democrats are the party of "Um, Exhusssseee me, I believe you meant to say 'unhoused'? They're the party of HR.

Dem states legalised weed. Dems support abortion (crazy sex?). Hippies were overwhelmingly Democrat.

u/ihohjlknk 15h ago
When your party doesn't offer actual, substantive legislation that improves people's lives, all you have to go on is "vibes". That's why liberals are so concerned with optics. I don't need the Democrats to be my friend, i need them to improve people's material needs. Otherwise, people will keep going to the Republicans because they will continue to indulge people's worst instincts.
0
u/CampusTour 14h ago
This post is entirely about the vibes, because they're way more important to elections than people think. You think Trump got elected by his voters carefully considering his policies vs Harris, and what they would mean for their country, state and families, and deciding rationally that Trump's policies were superior? Fuck no.

Dems have let themselves get pushed into self policing so hard they lost anything they stood for, while republicans are going all out on being as anti social as they can, while still saying "the dems are too radical and need to self police more"and basically no one of the dems called that tolerance paradox looking ass shtick xd

Absolutely. It's very easy to win a boxing match when the other person refuses to punch back.
MAGAs are not used to being trolled this directly. For example, all it took is a dozen tweets and they're already obsessing with Newsom and giving him more free publicity.

u/chosonhawk 16h ago
i feel like the media has tried this for years with zero impact. i suppose the outcome could be different if its other political leaders. god knows the dnc and legislative leaders arent going to step up.

The left’s sudden rallying around newsom is kind of weird. He’s a pretty shitty candidate but I guess people like that he’s leaned into trump style shit posting
43
u/Tattered_Reason 1d ago
The SCLM still keeps sanewashing trump & all we get from elected Dems is strongly worded statements. Newsome at least is holding up a mirror to the utter lunacy of our current situation where no one else with a national profile is.
23
u/Chaldramus 1d ago
I think people are really tired of the accommodation and going along to get along and are happy to see some open opposition. I agree that Newsome is a grotesque opportunist but at least he’s going hard, which is more than you can say for the vast majority of the national democrats
23
u/LKM_44122 1d ago
He's not my choice of president but he's doing an excellent job of trolling Trump and the Reich Wing.
5
u/DarXIV 1d ago
I wouldn't say the left is rallying around him. Just enjoying the show at the moment.

u/TheMrBoot 1d ago
There is a contingent of ride or die weirdos obsessed with the dude in every comment section for him on the site, but given how weirdly repetitive they are I don't think it's entirely organic
-1
u/ihohjlknk 15h ago
It's not The Left, it's liberals. They love fighting entirely on optics. Actual leftists, while amused by the turnabout with the trolling, are deeply concerned that if he becomes the nominee, he'll lose because he won't offer actual good policy and will just be another corporate democrat in an empty suit.
-4
u/TheGookieMonster 14h ago
Yeah leftists are sooooo concerned about policy and outcomes, they aren’t only concerned about optics and purity tests at all!
1
u/ihohjlknk 13h ago
We just want universal healthcare and you'd rather wait in line to buy Kamala's book than demand substantive change from the Democrats.
0
u/TheGookieMonster 13h ago
You can demand substantive action from democrats after you get them into office and exist as an actual voting bloc. Leftists think they can demand change before they vote for someone, which isn’t how wielding political power works. Why do you think republicans listen to conservative old people? Because they vote for them
2
u/ihohjlknk 13h ago
Politicians are not entitled to our votes. They work for us, not the other way around. "Just elect them and you'll get what you want." Well, we elect them, but they don't give us what we want. That's the problem. The interests of the Democrats lies with their corporate benefactors, not the working people. Stop being Republican-lite, and start being a party for the people who come home from work tired and sighing at the pile of unpaid bills.
0
u/TheGookieMonster 12h ago
You’re right, they’re not entitled to your vote, just don’t expect them to cow to your policy demands if you don’t vote. They have all the data on who actually votes for them. Demographics, political leanings and they go off that. If leftists actually became a sizable portion of their voting bloc, they’d listen to them. But right now, their most numerous and reliable voting bloc consists of classic liberals, so that’s who they listen to. It’s actually really simple to build political power, you have to vote. Instead, leftists will continue to demand perfection, not get it and throw a fit and then do nothing but complain.
2
u/ihohjlknk 12h ago
"Sophisticated data operations" don't win you elections if you don't have the policy proposals that appeal to voters. Kamala had more door knockers, more election offices, more money than Trump, and she lost. Why?
You are thinking like a DC consultant that has never left the beltway and interacts exclusively with other liberal consultants. Trump is an asshole millionaire who is currently ravaging the country and terrorizing minorities, but he at least throws red meat to his voters. What do democrats give their voters? Nothing. Democrats couldn't even get a modest minimum wage increase passed because of a bureaucratic hurdle. If they really cared, they'd have done it with some wheeling and dealing. But they didn't because ultimately, they're more concerned about their millionaire donors than their voters. Republicans fear their base, Democrats run away from their base.

u/bigspunge1 8h ago
This fucking bickering about nonsense when literal fascists are just cruising in the White House. This is why we can’t get anything fucking done.
•
u/ihohjlknk 8h ago
"It's not Kamala's fault. It's not the democrats fault. It's the people's fault." Great observation. Maybe you should work for a DC consultant office.
-1
u/Mickenfox 18h ago
It's not weird. Dems have been waiting 10 years for any candidate who openly goes for the "owning the cons" strategy and he's literally the first one. Of course they're thirsty for this.

Exactly. Newsom is anti trans and I simply will not support him because of it.
All these weird pro-Newsom memes have been extremely weird and the amount of AI I've seen is sickening. We need to do better than Newsom.

u/wendigo303 1d ago
How so? All i heard was that he said he thinks it's up to sports leagues to decide their own policies, was there something else?

u/Mickenfox 18h ago
the amount of AI I've seen is sickening
This will blow your mind: no one besides you and some reddit weirdos gives a shit about "AI". It's one of the most weirdest forms of virtue signalling.

Let me spell it out the enemy of good enough is waiting until there is a perfect candidate who meets all of your expectations, guess what?he/she/they ain't out there so it's either him or some twat waffle who's not going to get elected at all, I don't like Gavin myself, I think we can do much better AOC is my girl and if Phil Murphy throws his hat in the race I'll campaign for him in a heartbeat, what he has done to right the ship of the state of New Jersey is nothing short of miraculous, but he's not even whispered a peep and the country is too sexist to elect a woman so Gavin it is, so get of your high horse and do what's right for the country

Newsom will lose terribly against Trump.
Jesus Christ - the democrats are, once again, proving to everybody that they’re beholden to capital first and foremost.
