Nah, the cat will be fine.

270

u/ruttinator Feb 14 '25

Just make sure to take a break from petting it every hour or so to stretch your legs.

288

u/Illustrious-Film-936 Feb 14 '25

I came here to say this, knowing full well someone must have already done it

33

u/afsdjkll Feb 14 '25

ahh the old cat-a-roo

14

u/Breadsammiches Feb 15 '25

My Cat’s name is Roo

8

u/smore_blox PS4 Feb 15 '25

Hi Kanga nice to see ya!

8

u/BetterCallRalph Feb 15 '25

Hold my controller, I’m going in!

3

u/ctsr1 Feb 15 '25

Damn you. I went through all of those

4

u/chemispe PS5 Feb 15 '25

Ah fuck. I'm going in.

35

u/fuckyourgod666 [Ah_Puck] Feb 14 '25

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '25

loose hair would be the biggest issue as the fans could just suck them but i dunno seems good, nice warm bed lmao

310

u/RenegadeAngel6 Feb 14 '25

Wouldn’t want the ps5 hair getting in the cat

274

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '25

fr the cats fans cant get clogged or else

29

u/DuckDogPig12 Feb 14 '25

The cat wrote this

23

u/Dapper-boiyah Feb 14 '25

"If it fits, I sits"

13

u/SmokeySe7en Feb 14 '25

My that would be a catastrophe…

2

u/Fluffy-Ingenuity482 Feb 15 '25

note: be careful with vaccums and electronics like consoles and computers. i've heard many a tale of static charges killing them

3

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '25

1

u/DManimousPrime Feb 15 '25

This is our concern, Dude

357

u/buzzyingbee PS5 Feb 14 '25

Will it hurt the cat? No.

Will it hurt the PS5? Yes, if you don't clean it very often.

244

u/No_Drummer_4395 Feb 14 '25

You're probably getting a lot of cat hair inside your ps5 which will eventually be an issue.

240

u/Charleaux330 Feb 14 '25

His body is an insulator trapping heat. Will make the console hotter than normal. Basically hes like a thick blanket on top of it. Also if he has claws - claw marks.

63

u/Mediocre-Poem-9097 Feb 14 '25

People debunking this is so odd. My cat has done this a few times already and I thought to leave her be. Shortly after, it would give me an alert my PS was too hot and to shut it off.

I know they love warmth, but don’t let your cat snooze there. Plus the hair will eventually build up too.

30

u/LeFiery Feb 15 '25

I did not spend $500 for a cat bed I don't even know how or why this issue ever comes up.

Pets and electronics do not mix, the electronics will not survive.

48

u/_Saucey_Sauce_ Feb 14 '25

OP, this is the real answer you want.

19

u/Latatte Feb 14 '25

You mean battle damage

9

u/socokid Feb 14 '25 edited Feb 14 '25

Basically hes like a thick blanket on top of it

Only small parts, and none of kitty is covering intake our outtake vents.

The additional heat here is negligible and would be more than represented by someone running their PS5 in a hot room.

The tolerances here are absolutely fine. OP can have kitty there.

EDIT: LOL, these things are true no matter how many downvotes without a reason I get.

9

u/dkb_wow PS5 Pro Feb 14 '25

The additional heat here is negligible

This is not only true, but Richard Leadbetter of Digital Foundry did a heat torture test back when PS5 launched. He shut his console inside a tiny entertainment center drawer with zero airflow and loaded up a scene in a game that forced the PS5 to run at its peak power output and maximum temperature.

He left it in there for hours just to see what happened and it never shut off, never gave an overheating warning, and performed like normal after the torture test was finished. That same console is still in use and sitting on his desk today.

5

u/BillyTenderness Feb 14 '25

Yeah there's a lot of "your PS5 should be six feet from any other object" stuff on here, and sure, that will indeed keep it from overheating. But in terms of the actual thermals of the thing, the console takes in air from between the "fins" and spits hot air out the back. If it relied on the top surface for heat dissipation, it would have vents and/or not be made out of plastic.

The cat here isn't going to interfere with airflow, except to the extent that hair might make its way into some of the intake vents.

2

u/gmacman Feb 14 '25

Very true. It's fine. The cat and PS5 will be fine. Clean out the fans from time to time, regardless of how many cats are enjoying the nice warm spot.

2

u/Whitezilla_Diesel Feb 14 '25

Love the fact you put ‘if’ he has claws!! I’ve been pmsl picturing cats with trotters, hooves, feet like a duck, like a elephant, best one velociraptor which is a terrifying combo but would look hilarious with a giant raptor claw on each paw 🤣🤣

3

u/Charleaux330 Feb 14 '25

that's some AI art.

1

u/Whitezilla_Diesel Feb 15 '25

Great shout, now I have a use for ChatGPT 👌🏼

27

u/DizzySample9636 Feb 14 '25

Id be more concerned about HAIR - you might wanna clean it more than usually to be sure it wont overheat

23

u/bigben56 bigben72000 Feb 14 '25

My friends cat used to do this. It was fine up until she randomly pissed on it.

112

u/WordsWithSam Feb 14 '25

Mine stands on the Xbox all the time and it's been good for years.

32

u/Holzwurm1 Feb 14 '25

What a cute kitty, damn

16

u/WordsWithSam Feb 14 '25

She is a sweetheart. Loves to stare at me while I game 😅

8

u/BillyTenderness Feb 14 '25

My old cat loved to sleep on my Wii. Something about a slab of warm, gently humming plastic.

17

u/AliasThe1st Feb 14 '25

This should be an ad to get people to switch to Xbox. And it would work on me.

6

u/AliasThe1st Feb 14 '25

Also nice poster

u/WordsWithSam Feb 14 '25

Thanks! War of the Worlds print for Mondo by Stan & Vince.

u/KlondikeBill Feb 14 '25

It might paws your system.

7

u/sp4rkyboi Feb 14 '25

I would generally tweak if my kitties found a sitting spot on my PS5

7

u/No-Literature7471 Feb 14 '25

fur go into fan

11

u/Different-Dark991 Feb 14 '25

If your cat isn’t a fatass and crushes the ps then probably still no

5

u/DragoonPaladin Feb 14 '25

The cat will be fine, your kitty is absolutely adorable

5

u/foreveraloneasianmen Feb 14 '25

Your ps5 will overheat very fast

15

u/hobit2112 Feb 14 '25

It should be running purrfectly

3

u/Worried-Elephant-926 Feb 14 '25

I've heard this technique increases your agility and reflexes. Also increases your download speed 10 fold

5

u/Careful-Addition776 Feb 14 '25

Nah. Leaving cats on top of your ps actually adds more storage and frame rate possibilities.

4

u/reiningfyre Feb 14 '25

This is now your cats PS5, you should buy another to game with him.

7

u/A5D5TRYR Feb 14 '25

You're hurting the cat's self-discipline by letting it do whatever it wants.

But yes, hair will be more likely to get in the system and could cause it to overheat over time.

3

u/CastTheFirstStone_ PS5 Feb 14 '25

You'll need to clean the fans often, but as long as you do that it should be fine

3

u/icy1007 PS5 Pro Feb 14 '25

Yes

3

u/GR-smiley Feb 14 '25

The reason the servers were down

3

u/Possible-Mountain698 PS5 Pro Feb 14 '25

Odds of that cat being comfy 100%

Odds that you’ll need to clean out cat hair or face overheating issues 100%

But it’s the cat’s house so you’ll probably just have to deal with it.

3

u/Jambear24 Feb 14 '25

Cute cat

3

u/Top_Popsicle Feb 14 '25

Yes more cat hair is being sucked into the console. Just clean it every 6 months or so then if it’s a reg thing

3

u/iHoopiSkate3 Feb 14 '25

Make sure to clean the fans

3

u/Bashzog Feb 14 '25

I had this issue. Eventually solved with a trip to the hardware store.

Cats have very fine hair, and having it hang around the console will definitely lead to clogged up fans and vents.

3

u/iltuobmpersonale PS5 Feb 14 '25

i bet bro’s real warm

3

u/agentb719 Feb 14 '25

I got that same standard issue cat lol

3

u/AMcKeel1 Feb 14 '25

Yes you will DEFINITELY overheat it this way.

3

u/Far_Tumbleweed5082 Feb 15 '25

Yes it will clog the ps5 with cat hairs.

3

u/Bakamoichigei Feb 15 '25

The cat will be fine.

3

u/misswickedgoat Feb 15 '25

No let him stay

3

u/franciovi PS5 Feb 15 '25

Is that the best cat bed in the world: the ps5!!?!?!?(the cat will be fine it’s Made for him)

3

u/f11bot Feb 15 '25

That side eye tho 😭

3

u/Icommitmanywarcrimes Feb 15 '25

It doesn’t really matter, cat will cat.

3

u/Gullible-Stranger-10 Feb 15 '25

Looks pretty fat so yeah

3

u/HeftyAd6802 Feb 16 '25

Why are people so cool with letting their pets do whatever the fuck they want when they have an entire house to do shit in?

5

u/Tvelt17 Feb 14 '25

Just make sure you clean the cat hair out of the PS5 frequently. Weight of cat on the PS5 shouldn't damage it.

4

u/streetxrat94 [Lies of P Overture] Feb 14 '25

If you groom them often, it might not get too bad…maybe.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '25

clean once a day

2

u/PossibleJazzlike2804 Feb 14 '25

Get a heating pad.

2

u/teammorgan10 Feb 14 '25

Yes. My sisters cat eventually began chewing on cords

2

u/Romeo-Charlie-6-28 [RenanJohnTaylor] Feb 14 '25

Yes, since loose hair is a bad shit to have in your PS5, also please don't let your cat steal the PS5's pieces of microprocessor...

2

u/FishtownReader Feb 14 '25

My cat has slept on my PS5 a bunch since I got it… never had an issue. Even when I cleaned it… nothing of concern.

2

u/Pretty_Astronomer890 Feb 14 '25

No but if he/she does it often then you will have to clean the fans. Btw wich breed/race (idk the correct word) is your cat

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Puzzleheaded-Wait499 Feb 14 '25

Your ps5 is going to so warm and fuzzy on the inside before long lol

2

u/Discobastard PS5 Feb 14 '25

Do you think Sony tested the PS5 for heat disipation with a "cat on PS5" scenario? 😁

2

u/Active-Animal-411 Feb 14 '25

You will definitely want to make sure you take it apart and clean it regularly. My lil buddy Rascal loved the hum and warmth of the PS5 and I didn’t think much of it but the hair clogs quickly. I love my tuxedo to death but he’s been banned from my PS5 lol

2

u/HydroV20 Feb 14 '25

My cat does the same thing so I put my PS5 upright. Lol.

2

u/jillamane Feb 14 '25

You'll have to clean out your PS5 more.

2

u/thenarcostate Feb 14 '25

my fat ass dog has killed 2 of my printers this way

2

u/Sumoop Feb 14 '25

I ran into this with my cats. I ended up putting aluminum foil on top of the PlayStation. They hated stepping on it. I eventually was able to remove the foil and the cats still don’t get on my PlayStation.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '25

Sorry this is now NOT YOUR PROPERTY ! 🤣

2

u/J_Speedy306 PS5 Feb 14 '25

Yes. It will start to purr.

2

u/SquareFroggo PS5 Feb 14 '25

Not due to its weight but due to its hair.

2

u/No-Reputation6940 Feb 14 '25

Minght damage your cat hearing ability but should be fine

2

u/iNoMothersWay Feb 14 '25

No your cat should definitely be fine

2

u/AlexZyxyhjxba Feb 14 '25

It overheat a bit for sure.

2

u/kingv84 PS5 Pro Feb 14 '25

Nope

2

u/PositiveRoutine2944 Feb 14 '25

I mean would you set 10 pounds on your ps5 normally

2

u/raider236 PS5 Feb 14 '25

Good kitty

2

u/Perceptive3577 [CyberNinja41] Feb 14 '25

Well yeah if you don’t leave your cat alone with it.

2

u/Rushmore42000 Feb 14 '25

No but if the PlayStation starts running slow or u can hear the fans I’d clean it probably have cat hair in it

2

u/ViperKira Feb 14 '25

My cats love my PS5, they also loved my PS4 Pro that handled them like a champ for something like 8 years.

Keep the airflow clean and it'll be fine.

2

u/DismalFinger Feb 14 '25

Fir will definitely get inside. I just had to disassemble one of my controllers with stick drift and there was even cat hair inside it. Filthy

2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '25

-10% condition, you have to clean and dust ur PlayStation more often

2

u/Bacon_Warrior PS5 Feb 14 '25

Just clean it every now and then to help keep fur out.

2

u/CR-701 Feb 14 '25 edited Feb 15 '25

Cat may have seizures. This cat uses an automated save feature. Do not power off or unplug while cat is staring into the middle distance.

2

u/PumpkinHead12YT1 Feb 14 '25

Just means your cat is watching the heat…if they jump away though probably time to turn it off

2

u/Loco-Goonie Feb 14 '25

Yep. Time to put the ps5 down. Sorry for your loss.

2

u/iamearlsweatshirt Feb 14 '25

Hair getting inside is a mild problem but easily fixed by cleaning it every once in a while. In my experience, the bigger problem is if they accidentally knock it over 🥹 (or unplug it, but that’s less of a big deal)

2

u/Neilb4Zod1587 Feb 14 '25

Is he/she a fatass if so then yes

2

u/dadsmasher9000 Feb 14 '25

He will get brain damege

2

u/Tiny_Plankton2303 Feb 14 '25

You now have a purrrS5

2

u/Clixism Feb 14 '25

Better than my cat huffing its fumes while actively covering the exhaust port...

2

u/XboxoneS-aaad Feb 14 '25

Not if it's the PS5 slow it won't.

2

u/Almost-Anon98 Feb 14 '25

Yes it's common sense ofc it'd damage it the kill will be fine though

2

u/strangeboii2005 Feb 14 '25

Yeah, good luck turning on your ps5 tomorrow lol (cuz you wont)

2

u/ImpressiveJudge631 Feb 15 '25

When my cats go on mine it kinda rocks sometimes though it’s in the stand it came with, so I get the cats to not go on it

2

u/TheWatters Feb 15 '25

Am glad am not the only one that has this problem dumb kitten just won't learn no matter how many times I move her

2

u/Cheapfuckingknockoff Feb 15 '25

Fidget spinner is crazy

2

u/clickclackatkJaq Feb 15 '25

Might get some hair and extra heat, that's it.

2

u/dusk2dark Feb 15 '25

Cat found the warm.

2

u/Competitive_Number41 [Fallout 4] Feb 15 '25

i cant wait for u to ask later on why ur ps5 overheats or smells burned

2

u/ianAwesome05 Feb 15 '25

If it breaks just buy another cat.

2

u/English_Breakfast123 PS5 Feb 15 '25

Pspspspsps tation 5

2

u/Justvibinggaming Feb 15 '25

Maybe, there'll be lots of cat hair that can get on the PS and it would be applying some pressure onto it while it is on top of it, but nothing that I would assume does any major damage to it or even the cat if the PS begins to get a little hot while playing. I would say this is not recommended, both for the cat and the PS, but the cat looks like its vibin and I'm sure that you can take clean the PS and take care of both of them well enough to not have any issues with either. I wonder if the cat has a favorite game to watch you play.

2

u/Emmax1997 Feb 15 '25

No, it's a perfect bed.

Sincerely, the cat.

2

u/Bossraider Feb 15 '25

the kitty on top of the PS5 actually gives it +100 horsepower, making the PS5 stronger than most high end PCs

2

u/777Sike0 Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Feb 15 '25

The PS5 will age alot and look like a caveman.

2

u/DeadPhoenix86 Feb 15 '25

I learned my cat not to sit on things. He's only allowed to sit on the couch or chair.

2

u/TheRealNinjaDarkovia Feb 15 '25

Nah it’ll give the PS5 supurrr pawer

2

u/ifowlah Feb 15 '25

My overweight cat put a dent in my PS2 in high school and ended up scratching a few of my favorite games. He sure did look cute though

2

u/Pain7788g Feb 15 '25

Cat lovers coping hard

2

u/PlaneNo8036 Feb 16 '25

Is made of warm, so i sits

5

u/-l_I-I_I-I_I-I_l- Feb 14 '25

as long as they're not impeding any vents for air circulation, you should be fine.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/moistcookieangel Feb 14 '25

It will prob pick up the same amount of dander, I would just be worried about making it get too hot

3

u/GinHalpert Feb 15 '25

Doesn’t matter. You don’t move the cat.

1

u/pinkyNthabrain31 Feb 15 '25

That's because the cat moves op.

3

u/ZoharDTeach Feb 14 '25

Heat is bad.

Basic care of electronics.

→ More replies (2)

5

u/No-Mechanic2374 Feb 14 '25

Why do people let pets on electronics, say the cat jumps on or off it? Not just laying on it, which is Gross by the way.

9

u/basedgod001 Feb 14 '25

Agree with first section. Hard disagree with second section. In fact, I’d posit that you’re gross. Yeah, How’s it feel?

1

u/jointdestroyer Feb 14 '25

It’s no longer a ps5

It’s a cat bed now

2

u/fuckYOUswan Feb 14 '25

My long hair cat literally stands directly behind the fan to take that sweet heat to the face. I open my plates up semi regularly and have yet to see or deal with any real issues.

2

u/Yeetus_The_Fetuses Feb 14 '25

My cat does the same thing..I don't mind since whenever I open my console up to maintain it it's not full of hair like I expected. I don't let her sit on my consoles anymore though. Shes fat due to her diet food since she's allergic to everything else and I've heard my PS4 plastic make a crackling noise when she sits on it lol.

2

u/Leopm21 Feb 14 '25

Your car might stop working without an internet connection

3

u/GroundbreakingRing42 Feb 14 '25

Damn modern cars

2

u/RobTCGZ Feb 14 '25

Are you asking about the cat or the playstation?

1

u/Charizard10201YT Feb 15 '25

Honestly it might help, as long as the cat doesn't shed too much.

The reason I say it might help is because the cat *might* absorb some of the heat from the PS5. Not sure though

1

u/No-Thing-4436 Feb 15 '25

Not your PlayStation anymore, the cat has complete and utter ownership

1

u/KirbyofJustice Feb 15 '25

My cat likes to sleep on mine. The only time I got an overheat warning was when he covered the vents with his belly. Otherwise the PlayStation (and the cat) are fine.

1

u/Intrepid_Attitude912 Feb 15 '25

That's his ps5 now bro

1

u/Anonymous__user__ Feb 15 '25

Have some respect for your things and get your cat off it.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '25

I would kill my family, my government and myself to pet that cat

1

u/Peltonimo Feb 15 '25

How is this a real question on here all the time???…..

1

u/Steven555666 Feb 15 '25

Your fan will suck up all the cat hair and cause it to overheat

1

u/ElBartoMan15 Feb 15 '25

It will have a die

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '25

Cat's hair could go inside the ps5. But the cat will be okay, undamaged

1

u/Sebastian5160 Feb 15 '25

You can say it will be PURRFECT

1

u/Asleep-Cabinet4035 Feb 15 '25

Mine is beside the ps

1

u/Biglittlebobby Feb 15 '25

More likely to heat up bet that’s good for kitty…

1

u/-Nanika- Feb 15 '25

Yes. Stand it up.

1

u/BloodYWolF0990 Feb 15 '25

The ps5 is his Thorne now

1

u/Papa79tx Feb 15 '25

Is your cat incontinent?

1

u/Sweet_Tea_414 Feb 15 '25

Mine would do this, PS5 started randomly turning off, I assumed it was over heating, I cleaned it out n it was full of cat hair.

1

u/midge314 Feb 15 '25

Maybe try getting a heated cat bed for the little cutie. Or a second ps5 designated for the cat.

1

u/Ungodly_Box Cardboredbox_ Feb 15 '25

Overheat :(

1

u/CowFucker83 Feb 15 '25

Would recommend just getting them a heating pad or something. They make some specifically for cats.

1

u/kinjazfan Feb 15 '25

Cat edtion

1

u/linalool23 Feb 15 '25

I wouldn't do it but this kind of hair doesn't look like a terrible shedder. It's definitely going to or has the potential to such hairs in w dust. If your place is dusty too well clean it. My PS5 barley needs to be cleaned but I get dust out but nothing like some of these nasty people. Your place looks nice so you are probably fine and they seem comfortable so go w it.

1

u/Dj1999s Feb 15 '25

Cat hair will be a problem. Just make sure u do a normal cleaning. I have my standing up, and my cat loves the heat it puts off.

1

u/Helpful_Glove_9198 Feb 15 '25

Cats have 9 lives.

1

u/DefinitionOwn8597 Feb 15 '25

The hair is the only thing i would he concerned about. At my gf house she has two of them though so that might make the difference but when i opened up the ps4 was full of dust & hair

1

u/Alive-Tell-2309 Feb 15 '25

Just make sure to clean it every month Atleast so it doesn’t start overheating

1

u/perxion Feb 16 '25

"kinda smells weird, better piss on it"

1

u/BreezyPOG Feb 16 '25

+100 attack +0 damage

Looks good to me

1

u/Peshetoman Feb 16 '25

It might bend the panel if she stays 2 long... 3 4kg on top of a hrated plastic will eventually bent it for sure. Hair as well.. good luck cleaning butned cat hair... it melts(i have cleaned such radiator once, never again)

1

u/Business-Cook-4362 Feb 16 '25

Those cat hairs will void your warranty at the first service check.

1

u/Ajra231 Feb 16 '25

Their hair can fall inside the ventilation system and make it very dirty with time.

1

u/No-Series62 Feb 16 '25

Check the PlayStation's serial number, from there with a little research you can understand if it is allergic or not at cats

1

u/AnnualIndication6157 PS5 Feb 17 '25

just lying on it no. let the kitty chill (btw cute cat 😍🥰)

1

u/meepmeepmeep34 Feb 17 '25

the cat will take no damage

1

u/Fuzzy_Tree_9054 Feb 18 '25

You'll get hair in the fans and clusters of hair inside, not good...

1

u/NoFaithlessness9921 Apr 03 '25

Mine does the same thing lol. I think it should be fine just clean out the hair that goes into the PlayStation.
