u/Inner-Reflection-308 [Kingdom Come Deliverance 2] Mar 31 '25
yeah it’s awesome, very realistic medieval open world rpg. Combat can take some getting used to as it’s different to most games with swords, it’s more directions based. Also the story is good and it is a direct sequel to Kingdom Come Deliverance (2018) I would recommend buying the first one on sale for like 4 bucks to see if you like the style of game. JCBP!

Horses actually just straight up have goat eyes, they’re just often a dark enough color that it’s not super obvious. If it makes you feel any better I only found this out relatively recently myself

...but the horse controls in Shadow of the Colossus are awful

That was the beauty of the buddy 🤌 it was like he had a mind of his own. In the rest of the games, when you sit on a horse, it's like the player has hacked into the horse's mind instead.
→ More replies (3)14
u/Underdog_To_Wolf Apr 01 '25
It was intentional. The horse controls like a real horse. It tugs left or right and doesn't instantly respond to every pull of the reins

Honestly, once I got the hang of it, she’s pretty fun to use in fights. Hanging off the side to avoid Basaran’s projectiles then hitting a quick turn to run full force at him to stop him from moving away from the geyser is really satisfying.

It took me 3 or 4 tries to get to the second colossus because I hated the cinematic camera angles so much. Finally got through the game, excellent story, made me cry a couple times, still despise the cinematic camera angles.

It’s kinda like that joke about the time traveler.
A time traveler goes back 150 years with his smart phone. He shows it off to the people and they ask what it is and what he does with it.
I hold all the knowledge of human kind in my hands. And use it to
look at cat videoswatch videos of a video game horses balls shrink in the cold weather.→ More replies (2)14

I don't remember what it is bc it's been a minute since I played but there's a punch button and a maybe greet button that I was getting mixed up on? I've definitely punched a horse before. I think I even kicked a random dog in valentine :( The sheriff came and got me for that. I did my time. I still feel bad.

I remember this was actually a major talking point ahead of the games release lol. It was used to emphasise how ridiculously needlessly detailed the game was
43
u/Untouchable64 Mar 31 '25 edited Mar 31 '25
I remember this detail being revealed before the game even came out. It probably has the most detail for a horse.
But I did love my horse and how it controlled in Ghost.

It’s enough that they included his balls but to shrink them automatically in cold water is commendable & I hope that poor soul got a bonus for that

u/Zxar99 Mar 31 '25
AC’s horse looks better, but RDR2 horses feel and act more like real horses. Giving it to RDR2
454
u/ElegantEchoes Mar 31 '25
R* had a whole department working on the horses for years. It took lots of work and time to get right. They really wanted them to feel like an animal with its own inertial physics and wanted to portray some of the different ways horses can behave. The different techniques you'd learn when bonding with the horse and the whole confidence system was quite cool.
259
u/Bob69748742 Mar 31 '25
Like how much horses love to run into trees at high speeds
115
u/stuffeh Mar 31 '25
Usually, if you let go of the stick, the horse will weave through without issues. You might get clotheslined though.
77
u/gavinderulo124K Mar 31 '25
Exactly. If people run into things on their horse, it's because they are actively steering into them. I never had that issue, as I let the horse dodge on its own.
→ More replies (3)29
u/VoopityScoop Mar 31 '25
The issue is that the horse's own dodging doesn't turn off when you're actively steering. That way, you'll try and make one maneuver, but the horse will go a different direction instead, often directly into the thing you were trying to steer around.

It looking better in AC makes sense given it's come out 7 years after Red Dead 2 but RDR2 definetely has a lot more depth to it. Rockstar goes hard on the details
→ More replies (7)20
u/Spekingur Mar 31 '25
I mean, RDR2 kinda has to get horses mostly right, considering the setting.
In the other games, the setting has a different focus, horses may not be immediately conducive to it.
I feel like the difference could be similar to GTA5 and something like Forza Horizon 5 or Burnout Paradise, where the setting focus is on the vehicles and driving.
64
u/Mediocre_Scott Mar 31 '25
I legit formed a bond with my horse in RDR2, so much so that I ran cross country for like 10 minutes to buy medicine to revive him after he was shot out from underneath me. There are other horses in that game but that was my horse.
18
u/edd6pi Favorite game: Red Dead Redemption 2 Mar 31 '25

u/mars92 Mar 31 '25
Nice models, but AC horses have been the same since Origins and I think the running animation looks really stiff and unnatural.

u/Rocco_al_Dente Mar 31 '25

The enemy design of Horizon is just top notch. All the machines are just so cool. I love them
32
u/LooneyHK PS5 Mar 31 '25
Except Glinthawks of course
23
u/Wboy2006 PS5 Mar 31 '25
Honestly, Glinthawks weren't that bad for me. You could take them down with a good shot or two at their blaze sack, and the design was still sick.
I mostly hated fighting the Slitherfangs from Forbidden west. They were tanky, but their hitbox was extremely thin and they moved around a ton. Those were the only machines I genuinely hated fighting
6
u/alexanderthemedium_ Mar 31 '25
Shellsnappers were the worst because they were arrow sponges and would also wreck you in 3 hits
The waterwings I also had issues figuring out their movements because of how jerky they moved too, took me a minute to get through those

Good answer. It sucks people forget this game. It also plays better than modern AC games. Valhalla was the only other game I liked. (Possibly due to a biased but I'll ignore that)
→ More replies (6)25
u/OkayRuin PS5 Pro Mar 31 '25
Ghost and Horizon are both better AC games than modern AC. I made the mistake of trying out Valhalla right after finishing Ghost, and it really underlined how good Ghost is. Ubi is following the Game Freak path of not improving upon their game’s formula because people continue buying it anyway.

RDR2 has some of the best mechanics in any video game, its almost perfect.

u/EatMoarTendies Mar 31 '25
Commentor above said the horses’ balls shrink when entering cold areas. Lmao talk about attention to detail, Rockstar!
52
u/VikingRaptor2 PS5 Mar 31 '25
All rockstar games are super detailed for their time. And you gotta remember RDR2 came out in October of 2018. People are still comparing modern video games to a game that is 7 or so years old.
31
u/Barbarossa429 Mar 31 '25
Honestly, that game did not feel like a 2018 game when it came out in 2018. Way ahead of it’s time.

Red dead 2, it really feels like a living creature that you care for rather than just being an alternative to walking, I really felt bad when I lost a horse.
I had one in that game that wasn't scared of anything saved my ass so many times, I don't know if they actually programmed them to have a "personality" but it seemed like they did at times, I had skittish horses, some seemed brave, some were absolute assholes.

In terms of realism or how good they feel to control? Most fun I’ve had on a horse is torrent. Most impactful scenes I’ve had on a horse has been RDR when riding to Mexico.
