RDR2 has some of the best mechanics in any video game, its almost perfect.

Commentor above said the horses’ balls shrink when entering cold areas. Lmao talk about attention to detail, Rockstar!

All rockstar games are super detailed for their time. And you gotta remember RDR2 came out in October of 2018. People are still comparing modern video games to a game that is 7 or so years old.

Honestly, that game did not feel like a 2018 game when it came out in 2018. Way ahead of it’s time.

u/Katarinkushi Mar 31 '25

It perfectly could be a 2025 game, tbh

Just makes me even more excited for how GTA 6 is gonna feel

Something tells me that many quality games will go under the radar after GTA 6 comes out

2

u/Katarinkushi Apr 01 '25

It's most likely going to be incredible. I love that they take their time with the games, so every new game ACTUALLY feels new and incorporates new things.

And someone provided a link lol.

1

u/QuoteGiver Apr 01 '25

And someone else debunked that link, so now I’m unsure. Just another day on the internet.

6

u/SmokeeA Mar 31 '25

And yet they abandoned it because the micro gold bars were earnable

3

u/SpookyCrowz Mar 31 '25

Yeah it’s a shame :/ there’s no much more they could have done

2

u/Environmental_Tie848 Apr 01 '25

I mean even with no care they still sold 70 million copies that's still impressive

Game is a literal masterpiece!

1

u/AegisT_ Mar 31 '25

The only issue i have is that the economy in game is fucked

After the first big heist money is no longer an issue for the rest of the game

2

u/Magikarp-3000 Apr 01 '25

You underestimate how much money I can spend playing dress-up

1

u/AegisT_ Apr 01 '25

Honestly bought clothes don't have half the drip as clothes from animals

The legendary bear jacket goes hard

1

u/jimmybabino Mar 31 '25

Only thing missing is goddamn 60fps

-2

u/happiestaccident Mar 31 '25

Disagree. Moving around in that world is so cumbersome, having to continuously tap X to get anywhere quickly

3

u/VikingRaptor2 PS5 Mar 31 '25

You can change the controls, or go in first person

u/happiestaccident Mar 31 '25

I think it’s still pretty clunky though. Arthur on foot has two speeds, absurdly slow and full on sprint.

2

u/VikingRaptor2 PS5 Mar 31 '25

No, you can slow walk, fast walk, jog, and sprint. You just gotta know how to use the buttons.

5

u/happiestaccident Mar 31 '25

As far as I know you can only fast walk at camp and indoors. Otherwise it’s slow walk -> jog (which feels more like a sprint) -> actual sprint

It very much isn't, especially when it comes to it's horses which regularly run straight into trees. It's a remarkable simulation with the same GTA formula and narrative structure that GTA 3 had on the PS2

69

u/aamodbk PS5 Mar 31 '25

The horses literally avoid the trees on their own if you let go of your joystick. I would say it's a skill issue on your part.

6

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '25

Yup, it's actually the opposite of wanting to run into trees. They have AI to turn away from trees but fighting it with your control stick will make the horse hard to control.

Ding ding ding ☝🏻

37

u/AlterDragon01 Mar 31 '25

If your horse runs into a tree, that's a you problem.

Right. The movement of the player and horse feels like it has weight. It’s much more immersive than riding your horse into a tree and the horse continuing to run in place like it’s on a treadmill.

The horse does not listen exactly to controller input. Your steering is tied to the horse's steering programming, and sometimes it will go against what you're doing, forcing you into the obstacle because you tried to go right and the horse tried to go left. It will also often not jump when you tell it to for just whatever the fuck reason.

Edit: y'all are telling me you've never witnessed the horse ever do anything but what you commanded it to? I've crashed straight up before, and I've also had the horse change direction to hit a tree before. It's not 100% user error.

13

u/VikingRaptor2 PS5 Mar 31 '25

Just don't run into trees..... Simple. If you know how to play video games at a basic level its not hard.

16

u/tommyland666 Mar 31 '25

They only run into trees cause you suck at steering. If you let go off the stick and just press X it will run around every tree by itself.

3

u/Broad-Donut9694 Mar 31 '25

Sounds like a you issue tbh. Only time I ever run into a tree in that game is when I’m not fully paying attention. Or if I’m falling off it’s my fault bc I saw the ledge and jumped it anyway. The horse physics are mint in that game, it just Sounds like you don’t know how to ride a horse.

2

u/jsizzle97 Mar 31 '25

They run into trees if you steer them into trees. Try going around them! Good luck!

1

u/Miktal Mar 31 '25

Brother they avoid the trees. The more bond you have with them the more control you have over them. If you're hitting trees it's your fault. I've never ran into something that wasn't entirely my fault

-8

u/BinSimmons_ Mar 31 '25

Shhhh bro red dead is the most perfect piece of media in existence don’t let anybody hear you have your own opinion

1

u/AggressiveResist8615 Apr 01 '25

Is kinda weird why rdr2 is held as this oh so magnificent piece of art that nobody is allowed to criticise. I see it all the time on the Internet, it's turned into almost a cult.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '25

Thats because it is

2

u/AggressiveResist8615 Apr 02 '25

Proved my point

1

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '25

You’re allowed to criticize it, but it’s literally the most revolutionary game that has EVER came out and no game has been able to replicate it even tho its been 7 years since release

0

u/BinSimmons_ Apr 01 '25

It absolutely is almost a cult at this point

-8

u/Bright-Ad4601 Mar 31 '25

I'd certainly lose less karma that way.

5

u/Darkadvocate5423 Mar 31 '25

I mean, you're just objectively wrong here though, there's no opinion lol. If you run into a tree it's directly on you.

2

u/Miktal Mar 31 '25

I mean you're just wrong due to bias or lack of trying. If it really was that bad I'd be inclined to agree but if you have 2 hands and a brain you shouldn't be hitting trees lmao.

-1

u/Vasconcelos0909 PS5 Mar 31 '25

It's not a matter of opinion in this case though.
