… and that’s precisely the translation! I believe because it was initially considered a dish for the “miserable” peasants—but is now more universally enjoyed. Great potluck dish.

This time I added a little onion that I cut super thin. Sometimes it’s green onions like another person recommended. At times I’ll use leftover dill pickle juice instead of vinegar. It’s a great warm weather dish that can be made different ways so you don’t get bored with it.

Love it. I have it for breakfast with my eggs all the time. I mix it up though, I go one day with the standard recipe, the next day I throw in some tomatoes and green onions as well, then the next day just tomatoes and greens onions. All have sour cream, dill etc … it’s fantastic
