Read through the list. There's Democrat and Republicans on the list. The difference however is the punishment (or lack thereof) and the ages. Last time I went through the list for the last 40 years or so R's outnumbered D's by 4-6 times but the number jumps to around 10-12 times when you consider the ages of victims (hint, R's are almost always molesting children instead of adults).

Keep an eye out. This won't stop with Paramount. Corporations value only one thing - profit margin. The are only ever looking to up their profit margin, and if Donnie can corner them and threaten any part of that, or offer them a quid pro quo, they will bow, if they aren't already.
We need to ween ourselves off of our corporation addiction and our attachments to the celebrity figureheads who read their corporate approved scripts.
We need to start seeking our information elsewhere, and should seek out more independent art and entertainment as well.
Nobody is perfect, so of course this is a lot to ask of any individual, but we should avoid any consumption from these corporations to the best of our ability

Honestly its hilarious, too. I bet they structured this announcement (we're ending it, but not till later) to try and have it both ways. This is America, we're supposed to be the country that can talk shit all day everyday but now we have a man baby who gets butt hurt anytime anyone reminds him of anything he doesn't like. Like, reality. We're supposed to have a capitalist system that is free of government interference but now we have a man baby who gets butt hurt anytime a corporation does anything he doesn't like. Like, react to reality. The whole reason for dumping CBS is to remind them Trump doesn't pay their bills, consumers do. And if consumers aren't happy with how a corporation is bowing to the whims of said man baby, then we can take our money elsewhere. According to NPR themselves, only 1% of their budget comes from federal money

Yes. That money is not evenly distributed. Many small town stations need that funding, even if KBigCity will be fine.

Better yet, take the monthly subscription cost of Paramount Plus and turn it into a monthly donation to your local PBS station!

I mean, yeah. What else is on CBS? The 47th spinoff of the Big Bang theory?

Stephen Colbert is a fucking icon. He can find another outlet if he wants. But CBS is gonna have a hard time filling his shoes. Nobody wants to watch a late night host that is censored to protect our fragile president’s feelings.

CBS is not looking for a new host for the show to succeed Colbert. They are cancelling The Late Show entirely.
They will fill no doubt fill the slot with something cheap to produce that will not be critical of The Leader.

u/CatLady_NoChild Jul 18 '25
I just realized they’re not even filling the spot 🤦♀️
I guess CBS will become the next Fox News 🤷♀️
12
u/AntoniaFauci Jul 19 '25
I’ll believe it when I see it.
When Taylor Tomlinson told CBS to kick rocks, they were so desperate to hold that mandatory affiliate-carry time slot they allegedly signed a deal with Byron Allen. Seriously.
If they wouldn’t let 1230 go they’re sure not going to let 1130 go.
Furthermore, half of the ad buys they get for crap like Fire Country and NCIS:Maralago are from entertainment companies who expect featured appearances for the cast and product on CBS talk shows like Colbert’s Late Show.
If CBS is not letting the stars of Paddington 7 do promo on LSSC, they’ll greatly rethink how much ad time they buy on CBS.

My local CBS affiliate glowingly referred to the “Big Beautiful Bill” on the morning newscast.

u/Proud-Wall1443 Jul 18 '25
So what's next? Are they going to break down Jon Stewart's door and disappear him while Natalie Portman hides under the bed?
75
u/DistractedPhoenix Jul 18 '25
Possibly? Some networks will hold out longer than others. Comedy Central has a bit more freedom than CBS. While they’re both owned by Paramount, it doesn’t need to worry about a broadcast license like CBS does.
And that doesn’t excuse CBS, just saying Trump has more power over CBS at the moment.

u/gsfgf Georgia Jul 19 '25
It's the merger, not the broadcast license that's the issue.

V For Vendetta. Man, I can't hear that story he gives the detective anymore without noticing that Trump ticks just about every box.

u/DocTomoe Europe Jul 19 '25
With the major exception of John Hurt making a great villain. Trump fails in that regard as well.
4
u/eeyore134 Jul 19 '25
John Stewart is definitely next. I'm pretty sure the merger that CBS wanted and kowtowed to Trump to get means he'll be under them soon. All these moron rightwingers who kept screaming about being oppressed and needing their own news channels were, once again, projecting. That seems like the only way forward for any media that's not going full fascist.

Man. I hadn't made the parallel yet but that's so accurate it made me a little sad. Also because I love Stephen Fry as well so they'd probably just disappear the real one as simply as they did the character he played.
154
u/borbor8 Jul 18 '25
This is exactly it. Trump is the face of this movement, but there are tons of ultra-wealthy people who have zero interest in anything besides the bottom line. Up until Trump, they played the game, begrudgingly. But now they don’t even have to pretend to be anything but bloodsucking scum. Zuckerberg used to give to charity. He recently ended that. Why wear the mask of goodness when it’s not necessary and it itches so bad?? These are the people behind Trump’s rise, not just the J6ers and morons.
34
u/Several-Squash9871 Jul 19 '25
It's incomprehensible when you think about it. These people could give 99.99% to charity. Still be rich as fuck and get everything they donated back because they could write it off on taxes if they paid them to begin with. Someone please tell me I'm wrong and back it up with why. I'm not against being wrong if I'm wrong. It would lift my spirit a bit to find out I'm wrong about this.

9
u/RedLanternScythe Indiana Jul 18 '25
Comedians speak truth to power dressed up in humor. We are now in the stage of dictatorship where those voices are silenced. This is definitely going to affect future elections.
Are we going to see SNL stop doing political content. Is John Oliver's citizenship going to be revoked?
8
u/I_Ran_So_Far_Away1 Jul 19 '25
This is true but I think the sequence of what we see is out of whack here.
Colbert clearly knew his show was getting cancelled when he delivered that big fat bribe monologue. Go watch it. There were zero fucks given.
No one makes fun of their parent company like that and gets away with it. He knew what he was doing.

The reason why Democracy and criticism are so helpful to a well functioning government and establishment is because it's a real time review of behaviors and policies. It's communication at the base, rising to the top, allowing to fix problems and correct mistakes.
When dictatorships take hold, they often lead blindly because they ignore feedback and criticism. Instead of having a circle of experts, they have yes men who tell them what they want to hear.
This is why social democracies that regulate the government and economy are the best performing societies.
When you design from the top down instead, quality is removed to profit the top. Creating feedback loops of problems for the masses, increasing social instability and political instability.
People at the top will ignore what they don't like. They take things personally. They don't value feedback because to them, everyone below them is a moron. That's why they call themselves the elite or gods or some other fluff word to bolster their ego.
There's a reason why dictatorships fire scientists, educators, artists, comedians, engineers, technicians, writers and so on only to then install ideological influencers in their place and why it performs so poorly. It's fraud and misinformation.
When you promote fraud and cheating, thats' what you get for leaders. Fraudsters and cheaters.
So don't be surprised when things get worse.

u/DipperJC Jul 18 '25
