But he’s God’s chosen king! God has a habit of picking people in direct opposition to every single thing he calls good.

Why wouldn’t he pick a serial fraud, multiple adulterer, pedophile, and constant liar?

To teach his followers that their imperfections don't prevent them from being useful servants. Modern christians use the story of king David as their fallback justification for how god would use an imperfect vessel. David broke lots of gods rules, including having a friend murdered so he could sleep with his wife, and not only did this not result in god abandoning him, it actually meant god decided his own son should come to earth one day as one of this king david's descendants.

David was a very flawed character but his supposed redeeming quality was his heart. He was always full of remorse and felt bad after doing bad things, and he looked to god when he felt bad. Trump does not experience remorse or anything close to it. The only thing he has in common with king david is a proclivity to do bad things, but that's good enough for a lot of them.

The Bible is all bullshit. Religion is bullshit. It’s nonsense mythology for brainless dorks.

Hey, it lets you make money and not be taxed. So not completely brainless, just super corrupt!

Not to mention a breeding ground for grooming and child abuse!

Yeah I'm kind of sick of placating people about their imaginary friends. You'd think technology and knowledge would have moved a more significant portion of humanity away from superstition, but somehow, I feel it's had the opposite effect.

Now days it allows all those same people to meet without being in the same place so it seems like their voice is louder

Because human beings are driven by mythos and not logos. Technology doesn't change our biology or chemistry. Religion serves an evolutionary, anthropological purpose.

If Christianity is the correct religion, out of moral principle I would rather spend my time in hell than anywhere near that psychopathic monster.

Oof, tell me you haven't actually read the NT without telling me you haven't read the NT.

We can debate the various flaws of the religion and its followers all day, but even most atheists (and I used to be a militant one) agree that Jesus was a good guy who wanted to make the world a better place.

His preaching was an early statement of almost all of what we would consider "left wing" beliefs today.

Don't shoot yourself in the foot with this edgy atheist talk, you embarrass us all.

It's very Christian of you to judge me. I never said I was an atheist, yet here you are calling me an edgy atheist.

And my statement doesn't have anything to do with Jesus' teachings whether he was a real person or not.

My moral standards of actually being a good person is inherently opposed to the hypocritical wickedness of the practices of the Christian religion (and all abrahamic religions).

And I will NEVER support any being that believes itself to be all powerful yet permits such evil to exist. A person that allows babies to suffer through disease and starvation then wants to be praised for it should not get any praise.

I used to be like you. But you have to realize that this argument is not winning hearts and minds, but just insulting the very people we need to reach.

In this scenario, a supposedly moral Christian defends Trump as a valid leader. King David was a flawed man too, he says.

Exhibit A: A well rationalized theological argument as to why Trump can't be compared to David, which may inspire the reader to pick up the Bible and confirm that Trump is indeed in opposition to everything Christianity stands for.

Exhibit B: "Your God is false and I think you're a brainless dork"

Don't reinforce these people's hatred and stereotypes. To beat Trump, we need Christians on our side, not as our enemy.

Nah. They’re brainless dorks. I’m not going to feed into their delusions.

Have you ever actually read the Bible?

As far as I can tell people that have the biggest issue with religions are the people who were taught what to believe. Forced to see Christianity through some fucked up perspective by some douche that wants to be on the Trinity broadcasting network with a megachurch. Always with a major focus on the old testament.

Realistically the Bible is a collection of stories from thousands of years ago with people typically not paying attention to the actual point of the stories in the various books of the new testament. The one that would realistically matter.

That said, why not just let people believe what they want without talking shit about it?

Because, letting people believe what they want without any pushback eventually leads to people like me getting burned at the stake.

Quickest way to become an atheist is to read the Bible. Full of genocide and nonsense mythology.

"Modern Christians use the story of king David as their fallback justification for how god would use an imperfect vessel."...If you examine the record closely, you find they fudge the timeline to make it all fit. (Too complicated for a brief explanation,)

He's way more like King Saul. The people begged for him, despite all warnings. Although to Saul's credit, he didn't have bone spurs.
