Trump, 79, should be in prison, not the president of the United States

Americans showed what matters to them voting for this asshole

306

u/FlaccidCatsnark 5d ago edited 5d ago

More Americans showed what DOESN'T matter to them by not even bothering to vote.

More eligible voters didn't vote at all than the number who voted for Trump.
And more voted for (Harris or some other candidate) than voted for Trump.

Edit: Since this comment has popped up in my mortifications a few times, I've had the opportunity to rethink my thinking on the 37%. While some of that group may legitimately feel that their vote for POTUS wouldn't matter, especially due to the design of the Electoral College, I am pretty sure that some significant percentage of them don't make the effort because they believe that the resulting government doesn't have any direct and meaningful impact on their lives. So why bother?

If any 2024 non-voter - who feels that they meet that latter description - is reading this, I'm curious what your thinking is now.

I'm with you on your first comment. Some of us have been around long enough to see what a P.O.S. he's been since the 80s. When the John McCain phony war hero comment was first floated and saw he wasn't immediately banished from the entire American political system, especially on the Republican side, I knew something had changed in a seriously bad way.

Even though it baffled my mind that he was elected the first time, I reluctantly gave people a pass on it.

But after seeing what happened during his first term, I cannot possibly fathom what drove people to vote for him a second time, no matter how much they might have disliked Kamala Harris for whatever reason.

So now, here we are. EVERYTHING he's doing was completely predictable/predicted, and the American people were repeatedly warned about it, but they still went to the polls and voted for him again.

Unfortunately, we are ALL getting exactly what the majority voted for, so I hope his supporters are enjoying it. They just need to remember, they have opened the door for another president they don't like to come in and use the office the same way Trump is, to do things they don't like. So when that time comes, they will have nobody to blame but themselves, and I will give zero fucks.

No we didn't and Trump has repeatedly admitted to the fact that the election was rigged in his favor. The man has said it multiple times on national television so stop with this bullshit narrative that "We The People" voted for this. We didn't and this decrepit twat is only in office because of Musk and his Star link system that our voting machines were using.

293

u/clark_c 5d ago

^ this. Why wouldn’t the man who cheats at everything, including trivial things like golf, not cheat to win the election that would protect him from going to jail?

I urge everyone to look at the good work the Election Truth Alliance and SMART Elections are doing. The election numbers don’t make sense.

14

u/VoiceOfRealson 5d ago

And why was the man who always talks about himself constantly talking about the "rigged election"?

6

u/Specialist-Jello7544 5d ago

He can’t not lie, he can’t not cheat, he can’t not grift, he can’t not stop boasting. He has proven this over and over again. Every day that he is on tv, on twitter, on the radio, he gives himself away.

He lies, cheats, grifts and boasts even when he doesn’t have to. It’s his belief system, his way of life, his reason for living.

By the history of his behavior, he rigged the elections. Both times.

717

u/roastbeeftacohat 5d ago

there is a reason he's been talking about renovations on DC buildings and reseeding the grass. real estate development is his comfort zone, and so his staff is letting him stay there. the DC occupation is in part just so he can get homeless people off "his property".

Much to my dismay, we're currently in the "good" days of this presidential term. Once he's kicked off, Peter Thiel (via JD Vance) will be running the show. There's no telling how bleak this is going to get.

22

u/_Z_E_R_O Michigan 5d ago

I think that's their plan, but they're going to have a VERY hard time holding on to power when Donnie's gone. JD Vance has no following and has been constantly ridiculed in the press, while Thiel is just pure evil with no attempt to hide it. MAGA is a literal cult, and they won't accept couch-fucker or gay Satan incarnate as their leader. Unless conservatives are willing to resort to Putin's tactics in order to stay in power (which they won't because they're too goddamn stupid), they've got a serious reckoning coming.

252

u/the_headless_hunt 5d ago

He's been in way over his head for the last 10 years (or 78) so he just rambles thinking he sounds smart. Add to that, him aging and maybe having cognitive changes and you get his nonsensical bullshit. If we keep saying it's dementia that adds a level of sympathy and leeway. But he's just an idiot that doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about.

135

u/always_unplugged 5d ago

Seriously, I didn't realize how much worse his rambling had gotten in the past few years until I saw a clip from ~2016. He still sounded painfully simplistic and just as hateful, but it was more focused, less wandering stream-of-consciousness. And he's probably the most recorded person of all time—there's plenty of content to compare. The decline is clear.

"Look, having nuclear — my uncle was a great professor and scientist and engineer, Dr. John Trump at MIT; good genes, very good genes, OK, very smart, the Wharton School of Finance, very good, very smart — you know, if you're a conservative Republican, if I were a liberal, if, like, OK, if I ran as a liberal Democrat, they would say I'm one of the smartest people anywhere in the world — it's true! — but when you're a conservative Republican they try — oh, do they do a number — that's why I always start off: Went to Wharton, was a good student, went there, went there, did this, built a fortune — you know I have to give my like credentials all the time, because we're a little disadvantaged — but you look at the nuclear deal, the thing that really bothers me — it would have been so easy, and it's not as important as these lives are — nuclear is so powerful; my uncle explained that to me many, many years ago, the power and that was 35 years ago; he would explain the power of what's going to happen and he was right, who would have thought? — but when you look at what's going on with the four prisoners — now it used to be three, now it's four — but when it was three and even now, I would have said it's all in the messenger; fellas, and it is fellas because, you know, they don't, they haven't figured that the women are smarter right now than the men, so, you know, it's gonna take them about another 150 years — but the Persians are great negotiators, the Iranians are great negotiators, so, and they, they just killed, they just killed us, this is horrible."

During Covid, there were some times where Trump didn’t appear to understand the concept of object permanence by suggesting that if they didn’t test for cases, the pandemic wouldn’t get worse.

90

u/DeltaVZerda 5d ago

This is misunderstanding Trump's perspective. He wasn't referring to the pandemic in the context of a health emergency that was causing deaths, he was referring to the pandemic in the context of a scandal affecting his presidency. In that context, quieting the media really does prevent the pandemic from 'getting worse' read 'looking worse'.

44

u/Upset-Outside8716 5d ago

Yeah, this is the real answer. It more revealed how narcistic he was, rather than something like object permanence. The pandemic truly, to his bones, only mattered for how it made him look, not any of the actual impact of it.

And that's kind of the bottom line to him and all fascist leaders. They have no actual principles, they're only seeking power/approval from those with power. He doesn't believe in anything at all, he's just siding with traditional conservatives because they have even fewer moral convictions than democrats.

In a normal person of that age, it could be aphasia which just means that words are not readily available for recall. I had that condition for about a year after a severe bout with encephalitis 50+ years ago as I'd just not be able to talk - like Moscow Mitch's brain freezes.

Now, I'm a little older than Trump, and the aphasia is striking again as an age related thing. My PCP assured me last week that "I'm smart" and do not need to draw a clock, connect the dots, or remember a sequence of four nouns". I asked, if this was a Medicare Wellness Check, why I wasn't doing that fun little dementia screening exercise.

Anyway, Trump has dementia and started from a position of not being able to read, write, or reason very well even at the peak of his mental prowess. If it was standard aphasia, he'd just not say anything instead of spewing garbage. (I just listened to the news clip. He literally cannot name anything specific. He has the the vocabulary of a 5 year old.)

He has dementia. He isn’t fit to run office.

To be clear, these are TWO independent disqualifier statements.

  • Even if he didn't have dementia, he wouldn't be qualified for the office.

  • Even if he weren't unqualified, he would still have dementia.

I also offer the third disqualifier that he's incredibly and unrepentantly corrupt.

President Trump’s senior moments have seen him confuse several land-based locations, but now his cognitive slide seems to have extended offshore.

During a Tuesday morning interview on Fox and Friends, Trump discussed his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and seemed to forget the name of the ocean that separates the US and Russia.

“You know we have an ocean that’s separating us, right? A thing called... an ocean,” he said. “A big, beautiful ocean. And, uh, they don’t, they’re right there. So it’s a different kind of a thing for them.”

I will never understand how anyone can listen to this idiot ramble and think he's some sort of genius.

817

u/733t_sec 5d ago

Most people never hear him they hear the analysis of him. So fox and friends reports, "Trump came on and discussed his meetings with leaders in Europe" and it sounds very presidential to people. Sane washing is a helluva drug.

318

u/alleyoopoop 5d ago

Fox has been editing his interviews to make him look smarter for ten years. That's why it's so reprehensible that Paramount caved in the lawsuit alleging they favorably edited Kamala's interview.

56

u/nucumber 5d ago

Paramount/CBS is a business, and businesses exist for only one reason: to make as much money as they can get away with.

They're up against Dear Leader, who uses governmental powers to fuck over those who displease him.

So there ya go

30

u/MommyLovesPot8toes California 5d ago

There was a time, wasn't there, when it wasnt like this? When some smaller companies actually operated with a goal towards stability, long term employment, and the betterment of the community. Or am I just repainting history?

I work at a company like that, now, and so does my husband. So it's easy for me to forget that not everyone else does.

35

u/nucumber 5d ago

I think things worsened as distance grew between ownership and customers.

I was born in 1954 and grew up in a small town (3k) surrounded by corn and soybean fields. The owners of the pharmacy, the five and dime, the hardware shop, bank, etc were all locals.

They made money but they were mostly entrepreneurs who liked working for themselves and enjoyed being part of the community they served.

They're all gone now and replaced by regional and national chains, and their shareholders live far away and could not care less

21

u/Humble_Bee7 5d ago

Actually, in Das Kapital, Karl Marx refers to that same general phenomenon. He called it the "alienation of labor", the psychological distancing of the workers from the products of their work....i.e., a craftsman making a chair with his own hands from plans he has drawn up and wood he has cut, to produce the entire finished object, versus a factory worker performing the same repetitive motion on a disconnected part. No emotional investment there.

20

u/TannerThanUsual 5d ago

I read somewhere that Republicans always look for an excuse to vote for a Republican, and Democrats look for an excuse to not vote for a Democrat. I couldn't stop thinking about it after I read it. I look back to the years I've been old enough to remember voting for candidates and it's true for as long as I remember. For Hilary, she didn't support gay rights in the 90s, for Biden he was too old and we needed someone younger, for Harris she didn't have a strong enough stance on Israel, then even further back with Obama I remember complaints about him not having much of a resume. I'm not talking about why Republicans wouldn't vote for these candidates, these are actual excuses Democrats told me.

Makes me think of the news too. Fox will do absolutely anything to explain Trump's stupidity.

I fly a decent amount. I’ve noticed multiple old white dudes scrolling their social media feed. It’s a lot of pictures or videos of Trump looking “presidential” but not actually speaking at length. Just maybe a super short sound bite with rhetoric to back it up. So yeah, I don’t think they actually ever see the crazy.

This is very much it. He has a very small vocabulary. When his supporters hear words and phrasing they don't understand, they don't see it as a limitation on their own part, but as the speaker saying nonsense to sound smart or to insult 'regular folk'.

What I will never get is how much of hypocrites they are. They literally said they couldn’t vote for Biden because he was too old. Trump will be older than Biden (and it’s not like trump is cognitively with it).

Jesus, it's even worse. Anyone can draw a blank for a few seconds, although it's not usually done with the Pacific. But he went on to say that Ukraine can't join NATO, because Russia would never allow a NATO country on its border. That's not drawing a blank; that's total ignorance of the world. Finland is in NATO and on Russia's border, as are Norway, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and Poland. And the US is only a few miles away --- technically, their 12-mile limits overlap.

72

u/ItsAConspiracy 5d ago

And Finland has a longer border with Russia than Ukraine. Plus they joined NATO after the war started, and Russia didn't say a word about it.

Fuck the media for pretending like his brain wasn’t mush before the election. And fuck the media for still not doing it

10

u/Adjective-Noun-nnnn 5d ago

The American news media is owned by, like, six conglomerates. Bezos bought WaPo. NYT and The Atlantic have always been pro establishment. NPR and PBS tried too hard to appear nonpartisan, treating the GOP with softball questions, right up until their funding was gutted. (Now, all of a sudden, we're hearing actual critical reporting. Too late.)

57

u/DriftingTony 5d ago

I see comments like this every day, but frankly, I see both CNN and MSNBC call it out all the time, like practically daily. If you want to argue that it needs to be given even MORE coverage, I don’t disagree at all, I just don’t understand why people on here (not you) always love to immediately call out the media for “not” doing things that it is doing, and vice versa.

A perfect example is a week or so ago when people on here were pissed off and claiming that MSNBC was “energetically agreeing with” something insane he said, when I watched the very broadcast they were talking about, and the reporters did the exact opposite, literally calling his comment “rambling insanity”. I know everyone loves to blame the media for everything these days, but they aren’t ALWAYS guilty.

47

u/Adjective-Noun-nnnn 5d ago

That's now. From 2020-2024, their favorite themes were, "Biden is old! Look how OOOLD!", "Americans FEEL the economy is doing poorly. Let's interview some Republicans to find out how the economy is really doing!", and "Such and such scandal happened to Republicans. Here's how that's bad for Joe Biden."

Hey MAGA MORONS!! Added Bonus: LOL. You get to payoff all the debt for the tax cuts for the billionaires. Great job! You're a special kind of stupid!!

This past week, the 79-year-old president announced he's ended six wars (some that have been going on for centuries), asserted that windmills drive whales insane, called for Beyonce to be prosecuted, claimed Obama committed treason and complained a convicted pedophile “stole” teenage girls from him.

48

u/red286 5d ago

I love how he claims he "ended a war" when he's talking about a minor conflict that ended on its own.

Cambodia - Thailand -- Not a war, more of a border skirmish. They agreed to a ceasefire in order to get lower tariffs with the US. No peace agreement has been signed, nor has the border conflict been resolved.

India - Pakistan -- Not a war, barely a border skirmish. Pakistan said "yeah sure if Trump wants to say he stopped it, let him", India said Trump had zero to do with it. Worth mentioning that Pakistan is largely dependent on the US for military equipment, so they're legally obliged to gargle his balls.

Iran - Israel -- Again, not a war, though a bit closer to one than India-Pakistan. Unlikely Trump had much of anything to do with it. Seems more like Israel achieved their goals, and Iran had no viable method of retaliation so they just kinda sucked it up.

DRC - Rwanda -- This one he can MAYBE take credit for, assuming that the peace lasts. DRC basically sold their mineral rights to Trump in exchange for protection. Rwanda likely decided that it wasn't worth the risk of getting the US involved and so signed an agreement. This conflict has had many starts and stops over the past 30 years though, so I wouldn't take this as "settled" yet, but for now it seems to be.

Serbia - Kosovo -- This war has been cold for nearly 30 years, and Serbia didn't renounce their claims on Kosovo. This was the US getting them to sign some economic development deals, but otherwise a complete nothingburger. There was no active war, and the conflict between the two countries remains unresolved.

Egypt - Ethiopia -- They've made literally zero progress on this conflict. If anything, Trump's statements have made things worse, not better.

I believe he's also claiming a seventh -- Israel - Palestine, despite that conflict still being ongoing and there being literally no peace agreement.

Trump could be referring to the ocean between the USA and Russia, which is what I think OP assumed.

It does seem to me he was referring to the ocean between the USA and the countries whose leaders came to meet him, which would be the Atlantic.

29

u/xx_x 5d ago

It’s super rad that the president is such a bad communicator that we have have a discussion to determine which ocean he’s talking about.

16

u/Z0na 5d ago

I don't think OP is assuming anything, they just took the headline from the source. https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-79-forgets-the-name-of-the-pacific-ocean/

6

u/Ok_Weird_500 5d ago

When you click through, they've removed Pacific from the title, though I see the original title is retained in the URL.

It was still an assumption made by someone though, and the fact the title was changed reflects the ambiguity of which ocean he is referring to.
