Every time he’s mocked, he proves the joke right.

4.0k

u/Yeeslander Tennessee 4d ago

EXACTLY

He's fundamentally incapable of shutting up, has zero impulse control, and must retaliate against every perceived slight--he naturally validates every criticism as a matter of course.

510

u/JakeHelldiver 3d ago

He is self-soothing. A narcissist is a person whose ego is so fragile that they can only interact with the world through an ironclade shell of self delusion. Anything that gets past that she'll causes them to react as if they're being assaulted.

247

u/CalmBeneathCastles 3d ago

A narcissist created by his narcissist dad. Mary Trump's information about that family is highly interesting and illuminating!

158

u/JakeHelldiver 3d ago

That's how it happens. It's the same with Elon. There's an narcissist parent and an enabler parent the abuse usually travels down to the first born.

97

u/CalmBeneathCastles 3d ago

In Trump's case, he wasn't the firstborn, but his elder brother escaped the shackles and went to be a pilot instead of following his father's wishes, so the yoke of Chosen One was transferred to Don.

163

u/apparentlynot5995 3d ago

Fred Jr was the scapegoat kid who couldn't get anything right, Donnie was the golden child.

Says the scapegoat eldest child with golden child younger brother.

In our family it skipped a generation until I broke the cycle and went to therapy and childhood development classes so I wouldn't expose my future children to this madness. It sucked, was lonely and hard to do, but seeing my kids happy and having a stable and loving childhood is so worth it.

69

u/AlarmingAffect0 3d ago

I broke the cycle and went to therapy and childhood development classes so I wouldn't expose my future children to this madness.

As a fellow in this, let me just say, bless you for doing the work, and I'm really glad to hear it's paying off!

By the way, any good resources you might feel like pointing to? Any good literature or organizations or stuff like thaf?

35

u/apparentlynot5995 3d ago

Thanks. It's super hard, even now that I haven't spoken to them in over 10 years.

This was 20 years ago, but my local community college discounted the childhood development classes when I passed the background check and volunteered hours at the college onsite daycare. I began therapy about 3 years later, whenever I could afford to go, because I was living out of my car at the time rather than go home to my parents.

Dr. Ramani on YouTube is a great, free resource. I've seen some other rec's here, but that's the one I tend to gravitate towards when things aren't feeling so great in my heart.

Imagine being the sitting president of the US and losing your mind online over people talking about your ankles. At this point he’s basically writing SNL skits for them in real time.

I don't know if SNL or NBC have the balls to run with that, but I'm sure Trey and Matt are already putting it into an episode of South Park

89

u/TheBritishGent 3d ago

I'm picturing Trey at a whiteboard, finishing off the episode storyboard when Matt runs on breathless screaming HE HAS CANKLES before collapsing.

Trey just nods, wipes the board clean, and the process starts again.

It is crazy it took so long for someone like Newsome to come along and get into the slop where Trump lives. It is so easy and it is very effective.

u/JoeSicko 3d ago

Walz was trying

139

u/TheShipEliza 3d ago

Fair point. He did a good job.

221

u/Nervous-Internet-926 3d ago

Until the DNC told him to stop because they didn’t want to alienate Republican voters (who were never going to switch sides to begin with).

163

u/ProfessionalCraft983 Washington 3d ago

And that’s exactly the problem. The DNC sees the right as potential voters, not ideological enemies. They reserve that vitriol for the progressive left.

Walz did but he doesn't have the resources to stay on it 24/7. I think Newsome must of tapped the Wendy's and Moonpie Twitter managers to help keep an eye on tRump. Newsom isn't authoring those posts but he enlisted someone to help him do it.

Walz was on his own.

36

u/d_to_the_c Oklahoma 3d ago

Also Walz isn't naturally sleezy and Newsome is. Walz could only go so low... Newsome will dig deeper into the filth to keep up with Trump.

33

u/green_eyed_mister 3d ago edited 2d ago

San Fran politicians are a different breed, I will concede that (confession, my work is centered on CA government projects and has been for the last 4 years, but I am no longer a Californian). But sleezy now has a low bar given the current occupant of the White House. Newsom doesn't brag about grabbing women by the genitals, he doesn't make fun of disabled people, he hasn't suggested he was more mistreated than Jesus. The political sleezy meter has gotten a new scale.

18

u/borbor8 3d ago

As a Californian (and an American), thank you for saying that. This type of covert “both sides” bullshit is the reason we’re in this mess. I have a friend who, while discussing Trump’s horrors, always sneaks in some terrible thing about Clinton: how SHE is the reason Putin hates America and invaded Ukraine, how corrupt she is,, etc. It’s absolutely nuts, not because Clinton was a perfect candidate, but because, for one, she is not to blame for Putin, and also, neither Clinton nor any past actual president, Democrat or Republican, ever did what Trump is doing.

11

u/green_eyed_mister 3d ago

Putin doesn't like Hillary because she is too smart for him to control and she doesn't philander like Bill. It would be harder to get dirt on her. But your friend isn't the brightest if she really believes Putin invaded because of Hillary. Putin doesn't do anything because of Hillary. He does exactly what he wants because it is what he wants to restore the glory days of the iron curtain. https://www.cfr.org/article/limits-putins-ambitions

Hillary doesn't enter his thoughts. Putin barely cares about tRump except controlling him.

Walz is too much of a legitimately good dude to really go full caps lock deranged boomer.

He just called conservatives "weird" and it resonated to such a degree that it echoed across the country.

Conservatives tried desperately to find something to slander him with but they're... not smart, or savvy, or clever, so the best they could swing was saying he had a DUI 35 years ago, and making up super fucking weird beastiality fan fic about him, which definitely made them look worse than anyone, because who does that?

11

u/mynumberistwentynine 3d ago

It was so easy too. All it took was calling them weird, and it worked.

I think everyone was just shocked by how badly he was violating centuries of behavioral norms in his first term. Also, since those behavioral norms were so fundamental to the system, the people in the system weren't really equipped to get down in the dirt with him.

Then he lost to Biden, and people thought it was just an aberration and we were back to normal.

Then he got reelected, and again they weren't equipped to really get down in the dirt with him. Because, again, it looked like a return to normalcy with Biden.

So it's taken time to a.) realize the the old ways are well and truly dead, and b.) figure out how to be a playground bully who plays to your own side without coming across as an idiot who lost the thread. Trump's a populist who has his following regardless of what he says, a Democrat doesn't have that kind of loyalty and his own constituency won't give him the benefit of the doubt any more than Republicans will.

People have been mocking him nonstop since at least 2015. I have personally been mocking him nonstop sonce 2015, but he has been the target of every late show comedian, every Daily Show derivative comedy news show, SNL, etc. Even politicians have been mocking him from the start. There is an old theory that Trump ran for president after Obama roasted him at a White House Correspondent's dinner in 2011. This is not a newly discovered approach.

u/DeliriumTrigger 3d ago

The President in particular is very much a figurehead—he wields no real power whatsoever. He is apparently chosen by the government, but the qualities he is required to display are not those of leadership but those of finely judged outrage. For this reason the President is always a controversial choice, always an infuriating but fascinating character. His job is not to wield power but to draw attention away from it.

― Douglas Adams

31

u/djwurm 3d ago

There is alot more to it then just the base.. Its also the Republican party is held hostage by the Billionaire class (Peter Thiel, Koch Brothers, etc..), potentially foreign agents, and big corporations due to Citizens United which can funnel ungodly unlimited amounts to them If they go against the grain they stand to lose support, money, etc.. They also lose all the insider information (stock trading), power, grifts, etc.. that make them rich and powerful.

→ More replies (1)

u/BallBearingBill 3d ago

It's both IMO. Trump will primary you if you're in Congress so they are afraid. CEOs are afraid of getting their industry tariffed. Country leaders are afraid of not getting military protections they were promised as part of NATO and getting tariffed, the media is afraid of getting cancelled, and the public is afraid of the cult base coming for them.

23

u/MK5 South Carolina 3d ago

More like the ultimate goal of the GOP is to turn the United States into an Oligarchy, with themselves as the oligarchs, governing the citizens bodies and morals while letting the private sector handle everything else. The dictatorship is Trump's idea.

8

u/Recipe_Freak Oregon 3d ago

This. Elsa Chang interviewed M. Gessen yesterday on NPR. They talked about the speed at which Trump's authoritarianism has escalated. What took Putin a decade has only taken Trump a handful of months.

But it's the relative normalization of Trump's behavior in mainstream media that's the real problem. The press has an opportunity to call him out on everything, but they still sanewash and compartmentalize his acts and words.

He's emulating Putin at a blistering pace, and (by and large) the press is letting him.

You know in greek mythology the punishment for president cankles would be to forever chase a nobel peace prize floating away from him in perpetuity while his cankles caused him severe agony. To say nothing of the rest of his body not being fit for running causing his lungs to burn.

Part of the reason the media talking about his health triggers him so much is because it's one of the few things that might break the spell on his cult members.

Remember, they actually believe Donald Trump is some strong and virile male specimen. It's like in North Korea, where when they report that Dear Leader scored a mathematically impossibly perfect game in any sport he plays. This is also why Trump's fans photoshop him onto Rambo-era Stallone's body. I suspect some of them genuinely believe he's totally jacked under those ill-fitting suits.

But my point is: once the truth becomes utterly undeniable: that he's a weak, frail, possibly dying 79 year old, it's going to break the spell on some of the cultists because it directly contradicts the hyper-masculine strongman image he's crafted. Trump's very ignorant (obviously), but one of the few things he actually seems to understand is optics and his cult's perception of him. That's why he's so defensive about his health: the facts about it directly contradict his carefully crafted image.

Most regular looking ankles of any American President!!!! Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Edit: Had to report this because my first post was flagged for being in all caps. How the hell can anyone effectively ape Trump if they can't use all caps?

That's funny because in describing some of his actual literal crimes, Reddit censors me. not even saying anything crazy, just literally stating fact and quoting him himself, is deemed inappropriate.

It always gives me pause when you see cable news coverage of what the president of the United States says and they have to bleep out words. Interesting times we live in.

I had a comment removed for 'violent content', which was simply quoting the president's own words, which I confirmed via his own source: a Fox News link.

The comment was restored a few days later, after appeal, when no one would read it.

I hate it based solely on the fact that they regurgitate stuff and hide it behind a paywall.

Posting Trump tweets and sticking a couple of paragraphs around them is not something anyone should have to pay for.

THIS. I am so tired of ragebait articles that don't actually offer anything to society. These articles aren't giving us any opinions, ideas, options... it's not even really informing us of anything. It simply exists to fill more content space.

15

u/WineBoggling 3d ago

Also: we'd be better off being spared the opinions, ideas and (except in the rare case of truly qualified people) options too. Not absolutely every iota of published news journalism should be op-ed material, and not absolutely every person with a keyboard has an opinion worth putting on the figurative front page.

Give me news, actual news, when there's news that's fit to print, reported clearly and in the past tense--and otherwise shut up.

57

u/ringwraithfish 3d ago

Their headlines are always the same: "Trump (slammed/bashed/mocked) for (something)"

And they're articles are always the same: regurgitate some tweet, news clip, or sound bite and then tag a response from someone on it to prove the headline of him being 'slammed/bashed/mocked'.

They guy is a piece of shit, but this dogshit site does nothing but feed into the narrative that he will be attacked for anything.

Per the White House: 'Trump's swollen ankles are caused by chronic venous insufficiency.' This might explain a lot about his behavior.

If he's having problems with insuffient blood flow his ankles, and that's with the help of gravity, imagine how challenging it must be to get any blood flow up into his brain.

185

u/smcedged 4d ago

I'm not arguing your final point, but venous insufficiency is because the body is having a hard time fighting gravity, hence blood pools in your legs which are dependent.

66

u/InstrumentalCrystals Texas 4d ago

Except what I see is worsening CHF. Not just venous insufficiency.

17

u/mabhatter 3d ago

Yup.

That doesn't mean anything will happen immediately. It's a function of progressive congestive heart failure where older people's hearts can't quite keep up any more.

As demanding as being president is, even for relatively lazy Trump, the condition could accelerate rapidly and incapacitate him.  But hey... Weekend at Bernie's! It might improve his ratings.

20

u/b0w3n New York 3d ago

He's already willingly admitted he's on statins, dude's not in great health at all. The cankles are absolutely related to that and obesity.

Edit: also he's had a "I'm worried about getting into heaven" thought in the past few days, which is relatively rare for narcissists too.

→ More replies (4)

63

u/smcedged 4d ago

You say "except" like I'm saying Trump has and only has venous insufficiency and that fully explains his cankles.

I only said that venous insufficiency is, in and of itself, blood struggling to move against gravity.

Also, not sure what you're seeing but as a doctor I don't see any signs specific enough to come to a specific diagnosis. Swollen ankles happen from lots of things, CHF included.

38

u/InstrumentalCrystals Texas 4d ago

Apologies. You right. When I’m reminded he has CHF I get excited, hoping his EF is in the shitter more each day

Trump and Putin are both wearing "elevator shoes" with something like an inch hidden insole. Compared to the shoes of the person in the left side of the picture whose face is framed out, the height of the heel cups of their shoes makes it look like they are wearing chukka boots instead of formal oxfords. There is hardly anything more ridiculous than the vanity of old men.

O’Donnell also suggested Trump’s love of fast food may have accelerated the health problems of the president, who has also frequently been spotted with makeup patches covering a bruise on the back of his hand.

“That’s one of the ways a lifetime of McDonald’s junk food catches up with you,” O’Donnell said. “One of the places those Big Macs are going to show up is in the ankles hanging over the edge of your shoes.”

Trump being a total porker and fat loser for 30 years made it inevitable.

18

u/mahlerlieber Indiana 4d ago

I have a doctor friend whose colleagues have speculated his prognosis to be 6 months to 2 years, given the diet, the lack of exercise, and the stage of the illness.

Mr. Putin should take note as well. Your body will eventually give up, and there is no amount of money or power that will change that. You can slop around all you want, but eventually you'll die.

We are all waiting...less than patiently.

Normally I'd be pretty heated about body shaming, especially toward an old man whose issues are caused by a commonly diagnosed medical condition.

But obviously Trump is a pedophilic piece of garbage and there is no high road to be taken where he's concerned. Fuck him forever.

51

u/mahlerlieber Indiana 4d ago

The man has created (and continues to create) suffering all over the world.

In a polite society, the thing to do is to be aware of someone's suffering and not to make fun of it. But this guy has demonized polite society...so turn about's fair play.

Fuck him, and I hope he suffers mightily.

13

u/donkeyrocket 3d ago

I mean, the health of the US president is often a very public focus of the country. It becomes doubly so when physical signs do not align with the supposed clean bill of health the White House touts. Triply so when said president spent years moaning about the advanced age of the previous president who despite a cancer diagnosis is still certainly healthier than Trump.

Why does he have to be so weird about the whole thing?

He easily could have said "I have a medical condition that affects me and countless others across our country. Mocking a medical condition is a low blow, even for you."

Instead we get... this weirdo behavior.

Would have been hilarious to see Biden go on an all-caps tirade every time someone made fun of his stutter.

8

u/OddNothic 3d ago

Because, historically, Trump demeans and mocks people with medical conditions and disabilities. The fact that he is joining those he despises creates cognitive dissonance for him.
