They are still spending one million dollars per day on that DC shit. Your taxpayer dollars.

u/sane_sober61 12h ago

Republicans are the party of fiscal irresponsibility.

190

u/Ok-disaster2022 10h ago

Republicans are the party of child rape. They don't actually care about money so long as they get to rape kids literally and figuratively.

26

u/P1xelHunter78 Ohio 8h ago

And they deploy the military to distract and protect them when they get found out. The National Guard needs to stop following orders. If the legality is in question they just need to say no.

u/Prior-Flamingo-1378 6h ago

Read the Bible. It has moral guidelines about EVERYTHING. Even the type of fabric of your clothes.

No where does it say “thou shall not fuck children”.

Google tells me that there are 8,300 homeless in DC.

1 million for the DC occupation is $120 per homeless. Median rent in DC according to google is $2,500 a month - that works out to about $85 a day.

You could put every single homeless person in DC into an average home (not even a shitty one) and still save an extra $35/a day vs this military occupation, saving $290,000 per day.

This was never about the homeless.

39

u/RealGianath Oregon 9h ago

There’s a lot more corruption and profit that comes with imprisoning the homeless and immigrants.

20

u/P1xelHunter78 Ohio 8h ago

Yep. Slavery is still legal when a citizen is incarcerated. Theres no way all the billionaires aren’t going to jump on the chance once the concentration camps fill up. Work makes you free!

u/Suspicious_Bicycle 7h ago

Trump wants people to stop talking about how bad slavery was and to stop talking about the Epstein files.

u/P1xelHunter78 Ohio 6h ago

Not just stop talking about slavery, they’re pro slavery

It’s about the homeless. Just not the way you’re suggesting. Sadly.

9

u/P1xelHunter78 Ohio 8h ago

That’s what Trump believes, but not his handlers. I’d wager that on his drive to another expensive golf outing the fascist goons like Hegseth (Kegbreath) and Miller (Goebbels’ new skin suit) were pointing out homeless and egging Trump to deploy troops. This administration has done a lot of unpopular things, may get found out for pedophilia and is crashing the economy. They want troops to turn Washington into a fortress where they are untouchable by the people.

u/Crowley-Barns 4h ago

The idea of putting a homeless person into a non-shitty home is abhorrent to a lot of people.

(They probably call themselves good Christians too lol lol lol.)

u/Slipguard 5h ago

I’m with you in principle, but the moment more dollars go chasing those rents, they will increase

26

u/Big-Rule5269 10h ago

My bet, the debt under Trump will go up at least $11 trillion.

24

u/ricarina 9h ago

And the American people wont get a single good, necessary, or useful thing out of it. Sometimes it is necessary to increase the debt for the good of the people. Thats not what they are doing

7

u/P1xelHunter78 Ohio 8h ago

Well, the billionaire Americans (and probably a lot of foreign billionaires) will get boat loads of assets and money. Now yes, the little guy just gets the bill, but I think it’s important to note that the government isn’t wasting money, they’re just once again doing a wealth transfer to the extremely wealthy.

u/ricarina 8h ago

Thats a good point. Taking from the poor and giving to the rich, a reverse robin hood

u/GrimlockN0Bozo 5h ago

They hood robbin'!

4

u/Big-Rule5269 8h ago

Exactly. No infrastructure, no semi conductor manufacturing investment so it'll be coming back, no renewable energy, no drug pricing cuts, just tax cuts, deploying troops, painting a frigging wall for half a billion...our side only.

6

u/harbordog 10h ago

I’d think it’s way higher than that to deploy the national guard.

u/Defiant_Review1582 7h ago

No it’s cool. Elmo came in with his DOGE chainsaw and shut down a bunch of government buildings in my state and saved a whole one million dollars.

Blue state taxpayer dollars. Red states can’t even pay their own way.

It is interesting that much as Randism is about self reliance and paying your own way, the red states just can’t seem to make that happen.

433

u/Ok-Bunch2258 12h ago

Trump. Vance, and everyone else in the President's cabinet - liars.

No point in listening to them. None.

Ignore them as much as we can.

Executive order? Yeah, make me asshole!

43

u/EH_Operator 11h ago

If we can stand around with a bunch of our neighbors and say “we” about something important to us all, that is much tougher to sway with cheap talk or hollow threats.

30

u/ADhomin_em 10h ago

And help spread the word that ALL corporate media is still protecting and sanewashing them. They are fully complicit!

Corporations stand in opposition to rights and protections that benefit the people. Your rights represent a liability to them. Nothing else.

6

u/myselfnormally 10h ago

npr did too. They been both sidesing it for years. I even called out one of their employees to their face in person and they were like well we are trying to make it better. No you are not.

248

u/SniffDsNutz 11h ago

The dipshits who voted Republican can’t be trusted. They will vote for this shit over, and over, and over. No matter how authoritarian things become, no matter how much the national debt rises.

59

u/KnightDuty 11h ago

They're children. I don't harbor hate, but I also don't allow children to make decisions on this scale.

Sorry guys but I'm taking back the keys.

31

u/NegativeChirality 8h ago

Oh I harbor hate for the GOP and their complicit cowardice, and you should too.

5

u/KnightDuty 8h ago

I truly believe that MOST of them are uninformed and lazy. Like I said, children.

The leadership? Yes I hate them. The ones who vote but don't influence? Children.

u/Darth19Vader77 7h ago edited 3h ago

Don't infantilize them, they're adults who chose to vote for fascists and choose to enable fascism.

u/ThatB0yAintR1ght Georgia 6h ago

They scream about their 2nd amendment rights whenever we want to protect children from being killed in their classroom, but when we have a situation of the federal government actually oppressing the people, the same fuckers cheer it on as if it’s not the exact type of scenario that they claim the 2nd amendment is for.

As long as they keep the military take over and all the other bs they pull away from Trump supported areas, then the maga base will never understand how bad it is and will just keep ignorantly voting for it all.

They intentionally rely on idiots to stay in power by mitigating the effect of their bs on their fan base. Now they're blatantly gerrymandering with no consequence.

It's all broken.

31

u/Ohio_gal 10h ago

I read about a German policy during the World War II. It was meant to shield “good citizens” from the atrocities they were deliberately overlooking. Fox new and OAN fill this role now. The truth is still there but people who want to be willfully ignorant have plausible deniability.

7

u/r0adkill_134 9h ago

Terrifying.. I had not heard of that part, they're really just following the playbook huh.. disgusting..

2

u/Ohio_gal 9h ago

Here is a good scholarly article. The media wasn’t just used to vilify others (though it certainly was) it was also used to show intentional cohesion within the ingroup

scholarly article

From Wikipedia, most media was not flat out banned (except Jewish media of course) but “not recommended” or “recommended” or rarely, “required”

Wikipedia German propaganda

u/FastForwardFuture 9h ago

Maybe you missed the news. 19 Republican states have already agreed to have the Guard deployed. They want to be occupied.

https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-national-guard-military-states-cities-b2812837.html

6

u/r0adkill_134 9h ago edited 9h ago

I did indeed miss that, thanks for sharing. Now let's see if there is any difference in how they carry out their orders.

Although, im not sure mobilizing 60 NG troops to Virginia, 35 to Nevada, and 14 to Idaho is quite the same as sending 2000 of them to DC.

3

u/FastForwardFuture 9h ago

it's fucked up!

6

u/scornedandhangry 8h ago

Because they are only sending them to the blue cities.

50

u/nockeenockee 11h ago

I wonder how the GOP would have felt if Biden invaded red cities? Dallas, Memphis, you name it. It’s so stupid and self defeating.

54

u/Big-Rule5269 9h ago

Kristi Noem had already threatened that if Biden did this, it would be against state's rights.

"If Joe Biden federalizes the National Guard, that would be a direct attack on states' rights, " she penned. "Over the last several years, we've seen Democrats try to take away our Freedoms of religion, assembly, and speech. We can't let them take away our right to defend ourselves, too.

These people are a dangerous f'ng joke.

14

u/ThePowerfulPaet New Jersey 10h ago

Can you even begin to imagine it. If Biden did 1/100th of the shit Trump does every other day.

6

u/loujay 9h ago

We’re a blue city over here in Memphis, thank you very much.

1

u/JediArchitect 8h ago

Right? Germantown and Collierville would be happy the military was deployed in the city tho.

The military are sworn to protect the constitution and follow the orders of the CIC. We can't count on them deciding which is right or in conflict of the other. They are stripped down and programmed to follow orders, not figure out which orders are ethical.

u/DontCallmeFrancis42 Washington 5h ago

Not true. Officers are required ethics courses when going through school (university). Let's hope they aren't magas...

Source: I've been through the courses that were actually a lot better than any i have heard of.

u/plushsquirtles 7h ago

Republicans are a party I would never go to. Sounds miserable. I bet they wouldn’t even have cake at their parties!

u/Duder_ino 6h ago

‘As for DC, Trump said Friday that he intends to keep National Guard troops in town “as long as I want,” and threatened to fully take over governing the District—an act that would require congressional approval. DC Mayor Muriel Bowser “better get her act straight, ” Trump said, “or she won’t be mayor very long because we’ll take it over with the federal government running like it’s supposed to be run.”’

u/abnormalbrain 5h ago edited 4h ago

Tell me again, how we can't afford healthcare or education, or food security, or housing, or energy... Basically anything we need as a society. Big war toys, yes. Sports stadiums, yes. Obscene signing bonuses for the unqualified new ice dummies, yup. Gold trash all over the oval office, you bet your ass yes.

That signing bonus is designed to be such a moral test. Especially with how hard it is to find jobs. Ugly times.

u/BadTakesOnMain 7h ago

I’m currently visiting DC and have not seen a single one of his national goonsmen. I jaywalked repeatedly and zero consequences. These dudes are slippin.

The website pushes malware. This should be removed.

Edit: down vote away, but I go to the site on mobile and get fake Norton scans.

5

u/13th_Penal_Legion 11h ago

What? I have read multiple articles from them and never had this issue. They aren't my favorite cuz the writing tends to be pretty sensational in my opion but I haven't seen any examples of pushing malware.

2

u/Ayemann 10h ago

Not an opinion on the content.  Just not a fan of fake Norton scans.

1

u/xanderxela 10h ago

When I tried to read it on mobile a fake Norton scan popped up, so there's clearly something fucky going on.

2

u/13th_Penal_Legion 10h ago

Ok well again. I am on mobile, I am always on mobile and never had a pop-up with this website.

So again it seems like your device might be compromised.

-5

u/xanderxela 10h ago edited 10h ago

Which is more likely, that everyone reporting an issue with their website has a compromised phone and the first piece of evidence that ANY of them noticed was this article, or that Mother Jones has a relationship with an ad server that isn't properly vetting their advertisers?

If exactly one person in this whole thread had that problem it would frankly STILL be more likely to be an issue with the actual website than their phone specifically having already been compromised by some other website and then randomly only revealing it when clicking on this article.

You not experiencing the problem doesn't mean anything. Maybe the ad server is serving you different ads because of your browsing history, or physical location, ot any number of things.

Just because you managed to walk across six lanes of highway traffic blindfolded and not get hit doesn't mean anyone else doing so and getting splattered was just doing it wrong.

u/rankfourteen 8h ago

So far, there are two of you reporting issues. I'll put in my anecdotal evidence and say I have run into no problems with the site. I even tried it on several different browsers, with and without ad block. Mobile and Desktop. I tried this article, another article, and the main page. No "fake Norton scans". Of course, it's just anecdotal. Maybe try out a few things yourself as well, maybe we're all wrong.

Trial & error > conjecture & assumption

u/xanderxela 7h ago edited 7h ago

I was able to read the article fine on a second load of the page. I'm not reporting an inability to read it. I'm confirming that there is a positive case for sketchy fake pop ups.

Trial and error can't negate a data point's existence.

Oh, also, there was a 3rd person reporting this issue, but they deleted their comment after being downvoted into oblivion.

u/rankfourteen 5h ago

I am not accusing you of being unable to read it. I am specifically addressing your claims of "sketchy fake pop ups." To the other commenters point, perhaps your data point comes from your own device being compromised. It could also be a large number of other things. However, on my end, on multiple devices and browsers, there were no malicious pop-ups.

u/xanderxela 5h ago

Your failure to replicate the issue is noted, but irrelevant. I can't replicate it myself. Every repeat visit has been fine. That doesn't mean it didn't happen.

My phone is not compromised. I'm aware I can't prove that to you to your satisfaction, but I think a bit of good faith wouldn't be remiss here.

Sketchy ads are part and parcel of the internet. Three people having their phone browser hijacked by an existing piece of malware while visiting the same website having never had that issue before, now that's a wild coincidence.

1

u/13th_Penal_Legion 9h ago

Well thats a lot of words to say a little. I have read multiple articles from motherjones and never had a problem. Its posted in this sub all the time and this is the first time I am seeing this complaint. Once again they are not my favorite source of information but its not a hostile website.

If you read the other comments there are plenty of people saying the same thing. That they also experienced no issues. So its not "just me being lucky". By your on logic only you and oneother person have experienced this "issue" so you are in conflict with your own premise.

I have also searched for examples of people talking about malware being pushed from this website and cant find any.

At this point I am starting to actually believe you are just making shit up to discredit and try to ban a source you dont like.

u/13th_Penal_Legion 7h ago

So you will edit your post instead of replying. Fuck you are weak.

u/xanderxela 7h ago

Edited it before you replied, and your response includes a reference to something post edit. Fuck, you are being a shitheel for no reason.

u/13th_Penal_Legion 7h ago

Dude replied before you edited. Also everything I said still makes sense. You clearly can't actually defend your position.

If you can please do.

u/xanderxela 7h ago

What position? That a thing I experienced, but that you didn't, exists?

I'm not exactly claiming anything extraordinary here.

u/13th_Penal_Legion 7h ago

The position that what you experienced was because of a websites bad security instead of your own shitty security practices. (Thats assuming you are telling the truth and motherjones tried to infect your device with malware.)

Like you said, what is more believable, 3 people's experiences (that may or may not have happened) or everyone else on this thread who doesn't state that they had malware due to visiting motherjones.

Your own argument says we shouldn't belive you.

13

u/Just-Hedgehog-Days 12h ago

Not in a mean way but, this is a you problem. You should get your computer cleaned up

1

u/HeteroSap1en 11h ago

the website is allowing malicious ads to be served that cause redirects. It’s whoever the ad supplier is not doing their job to scrutinize the businesses it allows to serve ads

1

u/GrooGrux 9h ago

Oh boy

2

u/13th_Penal_Legion 11h ago

Crazy I just read the whole article with no pop up. This seems like you might have other problems with your computer/phone.

Or you just dont like the source and are making shit up.
