I would say the College Campuses of Auburn, Alabama, and South Alabama also played their part.

For instance, Lee County and Russell County Alabama don't have that many black people compared to many other parts of the state. Both of those counties went blue when Lee County is usually Red. Both are also mostly rural counties, with Lee County becoming more Urban in the last decade due to Fort Benning, Columbus, Phenix City, Opelika, and Auburn all being so close together.

As a white male in Alabama, holy shit, white male republicans are a disgrace to this county and humanity.

Edit: because more deserves to be said about the shitty people who voted for Child predator scum Roy Moore

Down here in the south Black people and white people have their own churches and its pretty obvious that black people are not learning the same bigoted stuff in their christian churches that white people are learning in their churches.

The big problem is religion, it just so happens that black people go to churches with good christian values and white people go to churches with evil, anti-science, pro nazi, anti-facts, pro-gun, pro-hate, pro-racism, and anti-american values.

A lot of the racism, comes from that separation and the bigoted values of white people, especially white males is reinforced inside their evil values churches. They take all those evil, anti-science, and anti-fact values on faith.

Lets Analyze Roy Moore and question how the hell people could support this human scum.

  1. Child Molester (His lawyers were even making excuses for him) You know the allegations are true when the lawyers are throwing out ridiculous excuses for his actions.
  2. Child Rapist (His lawyers claimed all the 18+ girls were married when he came back from vietnam so his only options were high school girls)
  3. Child Predator ( His lawyer claimed young girls were more pure than women, despite the fact that Roy Moore tried raping them on their first dates.)
  4. Believes being gay should be illegal
  5. Thinks women shouldnt be allowed to vote.
  6. Wants to get rid of half the constitution such as the parts that get rid of slavery, let black people vote, let women vote, and much more.
  7. Believes Bibilical law surpasses US law and the US constitution or the Alabama constitution for that matter.
  8. Doesnt respect the constitution and was removed as a judge 2x.
  9. Hes as racist as you can get. Tells the 1 black person at his last rally that the country was great when slavery was still around because families were together, completely ignoring the fact that black people were constantly ripped apart from their own families and sold off.
  10. He also thinks only christians should be able to serve in government and attacked Muslim Keith Ellison for being a muslim congressman.
  11. He praises Putin and Russia, but has nothing but insults for the United States constitution and American values. He hates the United States.
  12. He believes the US derserved what happened on 9/11 because of how many gay people live in the United States. Hes a traitor to this country and our values.
  13. Forgot to mention, he also has stated he doesnt think women should be allowed to be politicians, in addition to not be allowed to vote.

What kinda scum supports a man who supported the 9/11 terrorist attacks?

This man is pure scum. Anyone who voted for them is pure scum in my book.

I bet it pisses off so many of the Alabama fans that Nick Saban (A Big ole Democrat) played a big part in helping Doug Jones get his campaign up and running and helped Doug Jones win.

There are youtube videos of his lawyers making excuses for him, him claiming being gay should be illegal, him claiming we deserved to be attacked on 9/11 and him supporting Al Qaeda's actions because of gay people in the US. There are also youtube videos of much of what I stated above and its almost entirely coming from his own mouth our from his attorneys'/lawyers mouth.

I went to Bama. For one short second I did not hate auburn, and that is when I saw it voted for Doug jones. So proud of the students of Alabama who did the right thing and so disappointed in the old white people.

Any chance this election was held during finals week in order to try and throw off the younger, college-educated (/in-progress) vote?

10

u/Ravaha Alabama Dec 13 '17

Nick Saban helped Doug Jones win and helped Doug Jones get his campaign up and running according to Alabama politicians.

Im saying this as an Auburn alumnus. Gus Malzahn's wife is as crazy as Roy Moore.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 13 '17

Really? That’s awesome. I knew he was a dem but I was just talking to my mom about how I was a little disappointed he didn’t say anything like “go out and vote.”

2

u/Username5478 Dec 13 '17

Its still alabama. He refuses to straight out talk politics because coming out as a dem could get him fired. Hes basically admitted for years hes a dem without wearing it on a shirt and thats how bama keeps him

2

u/offoutover Alabama Dec 13 '17

I don't think it's because he's afraid it will get him fired. Like many people he probably just likes to keep his politics to himself.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 13 '17

I thought he could’ve said something withought being partisan. Just encouraging people to vote would be enough

1

u/Wise_Writer Dec 13 '17

I’m a Florida fan and one thing I never thought I’d say is thank to Nick Saban.

Every vote was crucial for Doug Jones. He won by 1.5%.

I thought it was .8? Thats what i was seeint when they called it. I think 49.6 to 48.8

6

u/aquarain I voted Dec 13 '17

After the press called it there were still some votes to be counted, and they were mostly Jones. They don't wait until the last vote is tallied.

1

u/Hanchan Dec 13 '17

Even the write ins for other republicans.

4

u/LLiamW Dec 13 '17

I'm a student in Lee County, every house sign i saw was for Jones.

3

u/Wildkid133 Dec 13 '17

I live in Auburn. It was very very pushed for us to vote for Doug jones amongst our peers. Very few people I have talked to amongst my friends voted for Moore. Shit I couldn't ever because 2 of my friends moms are his accusers.

2

u/HoldenTite Dec 13 '17

Someone said last night that it swung red to blue from 2016 to 2017 by 40%.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 13 '17

30-35%, I think. Still huge.

u/Drpained Texas Dec 13 '17

As a white former-male Texan, I definitely see the same stuff. Somehow, we're the elitists because we're judging people for wearing white hoods.

266

u/bongggblue New York Dec 13 '17

Did you move from Texas or move from the male gender?

77

u/[deleted] Dec 13 '17

Well their flair still says Texas, so if I had to guess it would be the latter.

115

u/YankmeDoodles Dec 13 '17

No you see, the gender moved him

5

They moved the gender. We're ally women now

The way I read her sentence, she moved from the male gender. Otherwise she would have written "white male former-Texan".

Edit: Removed all instances of the male gender upon confirmation of my assumption.

16

u/hirst Louisiana Dec 13 '17

when you're unsure of what pronoun to use, they suffices as it can be both singular and plural.

"the way i read their sentence, they moved from the male gender."

6

u/AxelNotRose Dec 13 '17

Good suggestion. Should have thought of that. Thanks.

2

u/plomerosKTBFFH Dec 13 '17

We actually added a new word for this in Swedish a few years ago, a mix between Han (him) and Hon (her) into Hen. Needless to say even here people got triggered by it. To me it's just convenient in certain situations.

5

u/Drpained Texas Dec 13 '17

You go girl! If you don't mind me asking, do you know how you are counted in voting statistics?

6

Still male on my license, sadly. It's going to be a slow process because I'm a student with a part-time job. But once I'm out of school and employed with insurance, I'm probably getting out of here to a place that's more accepting anyways

1

u/Fehinaction Dec 14 '17

My friend has this with their health card where they need it to say female still to qualify for certain surgeries/treatments. It is annoying that you have to do everything so carefully to not get screwed. Best of luck!

3

u/arolloftide Alabama Dec 13 '17

I think he moved from Texas to the male gender.

1

u/jack3017 Dec 13 '17

Valid question, but just a quick correction. Male is not a gender, it’s biological, man/boy/etc is the gender you’re thinking of and is the collection of values and stuff our society has pinned to the male sex for a variety of reasons.

3

u/bongggblue New York Dec 13 '17

Yeah I'm not sure of the proper term, I was just curious if it was a male that moved from Texas or a Texan that moved from male. I was high, but as someone implied by the flair, it was most likely the latter, and that's cool.

Texan who lives in NY now as well. My dad's side of the family is still in Texas and is every bit as bad as Alabama. My dad once told me if the government tried to publicly fund higher education it would be cause for a second civil war... Coming from the man who had his higher education paid for by the government. He's #MAGA all the way and thinks "your people" (the Dems) are destroying the world and must be ousted at all cost.

4

u/-wnr- Dec 13 '17

Seems about right. The reddest, most "small government" parts of the country generally take more federal money than they contribute in taxes. It's all awful, socialist programs except when they're taking advantage of them.

4

u/Drpained Texas Dec 13 '17

Take your Government hands off my Medicare!!

1

u/DriftwoodBadger New York Dec 13 '17

That damned socialism, it ruins everything! I pulled myself up by own bootstraps, I did. I built my own electrical grid, and I only drive on roads that I paved myself on land that I own. When my house catches fire, I only accept help from my own private fire department, and I personally employee police that protect just me. When I needed goods shipped across the country, I started my own postal service! I refine my own gasoline from oil that I dug up with my own two hands, and all of my bananas are grown in a field behind my house. No sirree, no dirty socialist public infrastructure for me.

1

u/-wnr- Dec 13 '17

Good on you. The last time those commie firemen came to put out my house fire I told em to piss off!

3

u/Spreebald Dec 13 '17

It looks like your post is causing confusion because you started with the phrase ‘white male’ (adjective noun), modified the noun to be an adjective while adding another noun at the end ‘white former-male Texan’ (adjective adjective noun), but ran afoul of English’s rules for ordering adjectives.

For example, if you were to say ‘the little green car’ nobody would object, but if you said ‘the green little car’ then everyone would think you are a maniac.

2

u/Drpained Texas Dec 13 '17

Ya, I totally get it.

The only reason I worded it as such was to mirror his "as a white male in Alabama," to address precisely what I'm responding to. It is an odd way to phrase it, especially because people don't generally casually drop gender identity when it's not relevant.

2

u/anechoicmedia Dec 13 '17

As a white former-male Texan

Are you white? Are you sure you aren't Jewish?

2

u/Pandoras_Fox Dec 13 '17

white former-male Texan

Hey, I'm a white former-male former-Texan! :D

I totally saw the same stuff back when I lived there. Apparently, not hating people that are different make us elitist assholes.

2

u/Drpained Texas Dec 13 '17

Yup. We're the bigots because we won't let them discriminate in peace.

1

u/infininme Dec 13 '17

Republicans and the right wing only care about being in power and winning. For example, deficits are bad until they're in power. They will say anything and everything they think will get you on their side. Death panels, etc. So many lies; so much PR and no substance, basically the essence of Donald Trump. This is a Koch brother strategy from their playbook. Fuck the Koch brothers, Art Pope, and all the other rich conservative assholes who think they shit gold.

Former male? Sad to hear, hopefully you are seeking help for your illness

3

u/Drpained Texas Dec 13 '17

Actually, yes. I had to see 3 separate doctors to even begin my transition.

Furthermore, I'm still going to a therapist over the PTSD I got from when my parents had an exorcism to try to burn the evil spirits from my brain, because they too didn't understand how this perfectly normal phenomenon could curse their failure of a son.

College educated white males went for Moore 64-34

College educated white women went Moore 54-44

3

u/Ravaha Alabama Dec 13 '17

There are a lot of older college educated people and also college educated people not from Auburn, Alabama, or South Alabama campuses. Auburn, Tuscaloosa, and Mobile all went to Doug Jones.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/09/26/white-millennials-vote-a-lot-more-like-whites-than-like-millennials/

1

1

u/ManetherenRises Dec 13 '17

White millenials have never voted democrat as a majority,

1

I don't believe college students would fall under the college educated category, since the question is generally whether or not the voter has a degree.

2

u/Tearakan Dec 13 '17

It's just republicans in general now. They gone of the fucking cliff.

2

u/Cambot72 Dec 13 '17

Everyone played their part in this IMO. I knew Republicans who voted for Jones even though they voted for Trump. There was a drive this election in people to get out there to vote.

2

u/Username5478 Dec 13 '17

I love the republican write ins of saban. Like if you live in alabama or follow football you know hes basically acknowledged numerous times over what 10 years? That hes a democrat

2

u/Ravaha Alabama Dec 13 '17

A lot of them have no clue Saban is a big Democrat. You didnt see Doug Jones thank Nick Saban because Saban keeps it pretty low key and wants to keep it that way. But other Alabama politicians acknowledged Nick Saban as a very important person in getting Doug Jones' campaign up and running.

Apparently a lot of Nick Saban's car dealerships were decked out with Doug Jones signs also.

1

u/28-3_lol Dec 13 '17

Serious question. You seem to be very well informed on the subject, and I am only tangentially familiar with the Roy Moore situation (I am in med school and have been stuck in cubicle studying like crazy for board exams the last month). Is there evidence for all this, or is it just hearsay? I was talking to my dad (who is very Republican) about it figuring he would be mad this guy was such an idiot that it cost them a seat in a traditionally Red state, but instead he said that the campaign against Moore has been character assassination, and that there is no evidence for any of it, and it is all just hear say, and that it is no coincidence Democrats are bringing it up now because they want to get that seat to help overturn the new tax bill. I figured there is probably evidence for the accusations since it is being taken so seriously, but again, am not familiar enough with the situation to know. So is there real evidence of any of this?

1

u/Ravaha Alabama Dec 13 '17 edited Dec 13 '17

There is concrete evidence the allegations are true through his own lawyers and his refusal to deny the allegations are false. So both he and his lawyers have basically confirmed they are true.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ER59sO7UK6I

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8pfBdQ9pDM

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J737RW6eL-Q

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5PvjLh5fxg

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GswEoeDfCI

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thBQhCoJEFQ

You can see his lawyers try to make excuses for his child rape. They say it was okay for Marry and Joseph in the bible so it was okay for Roy Moore also. They said young girls were the only females he could date because when he came back from the war all the woman were taken. They said Roy Moore was forced to date young girls because they were more pure than older women.

Mind you these are his lawyers basically not denying the allegations, but instead make excuses for Moore's child rape.

Roy Moore himself wouldnt deny having sexual relations with young girls and dating girls who havent graduated highschool, he instead said he asked permission from their parents first. So that pretty much confirms from his own mouth that the allegations are true.

1

u/28-3_lol Dec 13 '17

Yikes. this is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks! Besides this, which is obviously terrible, was there anything else major he did that lead to the huge backlash against him?

1

u/Ravaha Alabama Dec 13 '17

He was removed from being a judge 2x for declaring gods law/ law of the bible supersedes the US constitution.

He believes being gay should be illegal and punishable.

He stated on video that he believes the 9/11 terrorist attacks by Al Qaeda were justified and a punishment from god for all the gay people in America. So hes saying he supports Al Qaeda because he believes they are carrying out gods judgement on America for having so many gay people.

He also believes only Christians should be able to serve in government. He called for the resignation of keith ellison from the congress because hes a muslim. He falsely believes every congressman or high level politician has to swear under oath with the bible, which just isnt true.

Tells the 1 black person at his last rally that the country was great when slavery was still around because families were together, completely ignoring the fact that black people were constantly ripped apart from their own families and sold off.

Wants to get rid of half the constitution such as the parts that get rid of slavery, let black people vote, let women vote, and much more.

He also doesnt think women should be allowed to serve in office or be politicians.

1

1

u/[deleted] Dec 13 '17

Not all churches in the south are segregated

-1

u/Ravaha Alabama Dec 13 '17

Not all men have 2 testicles

Not all women have breasts

Not all people have 2 eyes

Not all people have 10 fingers

Not all people have 10 toes

Not all people have 2 arms

Not all people have 2 legs

In short and with an ample amount of confusion as to what your point is, what the heck are you trying to say?

Because almost all of them are segregated.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 13 '17

Not where I live, I didnt realize you were part of the Racial Composition of Southern Churches survey team

1

u/Ravaha Alabama Dec 13 '17

Seeing as how there are a couple hundred churches in the area that I live and all of them are either full of white people or full of black people with no intermixing, I think i have a plenty large enough sample size to determine that churches in the South East are indeed segregated.

It also matches up with the political leanings of the people that attend those churches. People who go to white churches are a large majority conservatives, and people who go to black churches are almost entirely liberal. The churches teach different sets of values. White conservative churches teach evil values, while black liberal churches teach a much better set of values.

Do you have any evidence this is not the case? Do you think church going people don't get many of their values from the church they attend? Because all of the polling and evidence points to them, in fact, being segregated.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 13 '17

Youre moving the goal post when you change it to the south east, when originally you said south. Aside from that you sample size is still too small to be anything more than anecdotal. In larger cities, the churches in my state arent segregated

1

u/Ravaha Alabama Dec 13 '17

Again, larger cities are liberal. Im talking about conservative areas and heavily conservative areas. That was always my intention, not moving any goalposts. Of course a more liberal area is going to have more diversity, which is why I made the comment about up north having more diversity.

The problem Im talking about is churches in the south that radicalize white people with evil beliefs. Large cities are not going to have that that problem to the same extent, its the rural conservative areas that do.

I bet the churches in rural areas of your southern state are segregated simply because that is how it is everywhere else and couple that with the fact that a black person isnt going to walk into a conservative church that preaches republican talking points on a semi-weekly basis. Its just not going to happen. A conservative person isnt going to walk into any church that preaches good christian values even if it is full of white people, they need their church that preaches bigotry, hate, and anti-science.

This segregation of churches just gives way to racism because white people don't understand the black community at all, and view them as the enemy because black churches actually try to preach good christian values.

Overwhelming voted for an outspoken belligerent racist and paedophile. Thats pretty gross. Thats a call for some introspection

5

u/Ravaha Alabama Dec 13 '17

Shaming is the only thing that works in the south east. They have to be drug kicking and screaming.

They supported a man who stated on video that he thought we deserved the terrorist attacks on 9/11 because we have too many gays. They are also supporting a child rapist and child molester.

Lumping people together isnt always a bad thing, especially when it comes to getting southerners to do the right thing.

0

u/TomHardyAsBronson Dec 13 '17

Yeah young people overwhelmingly went for Jones. It's the old stodgey white folks that are the problem. Unfortunately, they are also the ones with all the money, land, and companies. Meanwhile, we're working low paying jobs trying to drag ourselves out from under a debt we were pressured into taking out by those same old folks who tell us we're lazy. Screw those guys.

-6

u/Eddy_of_the_Godswood Virginia Dec 13 '17

I'd love for us to act like what we stand for and stop stereotyping people based on race. If one is unsure about whether a statement is racist or not, replace "white" with "black" or vice-versa - the root of racism is perception of differences, which is subtly reinforced by statements about "the black vote" and "the white vote" like this. Yes, I realize that due to ingrained racism in the South, black people may have a different perspective, but constantly talking about racial distinctions will only contribute to the problem.

3

u/parallacks Dec 13 '17

yeah I don't think talking about demographic voting patterns is the issue here buddy

0

u/Ravaha Alabama Dec 13 '17

I think it is mostly due to religion in the south. When I visit up north, I see much more interracial groups and interracial interactions.

1

u/Username5478 Dec 13 '17

Thats not indictative of major metros in the south, particularly those not the deep south ie. Houston, dallas, atlanta. Less segregation than metros in the north. Here churches in the suburbs are still many times seperate but it seems to be more because of family based tradition than a need

1

u/Ravaha Alabama Dec 13 '17 edited Dec 13 '17

But southern large cities are liberal cities. Im talking about the conservative areas and heavily conservative areas where there are still pleny of racists running around. I live in Rural Alabama as a white male I can tell you there are still plenty of racists and sexists in Alabama.

The shit they say about Hillary because she stayed with a man that cheated on her is absolutely vile and disgusting.
