As a white former-male Texan, I definitely see the same stuff. Somehow, we're the elitists because we're judging people for wearing white hoods.

Did you move from Texas or move from the male gender?

76

u/[deleted] Dec 13 '17

Well their flair still says Texas, so if I had to guess it would be the latter.

u/YankmeDoodles Dec 13 '17

No you see, the gender moved him

4

u/[deleted] Dec 13 '17

it maled him away

1

u/nizzbot Dec 14 '17

They moved the gender. We're ally women now

The way I read her sentence, she moved from the male gender. Otherwise she would have written "white male former-Texan".

Edit: Removed all instances of the male gender upon confirmation of my assumption.

when you're unsure of what pronoun to use, they suffices as it can be both singular and plural.

"the way i read their sentence, they moved from the male gender."

Good suggestion. Should have thought of that. Thanks.

We actually added a new word for this in Swedish a few years ago, a mix between Han (him) and Hon (her) into Hen. Needless to say even here people got triggered by it. To me it's just convenient in certain situations.

u/Drpained Texas Dec 13 '17

Correct

0

u/Naggins Dec 13 '17

It's just she.

19

u/Fehinaction Dec 13 '17

The hyphen implies the male part is no longer true but who knows really

17

u/Drpained Texas Dec 13 '17

Yes, that.

In 20 years, everyone will have known what you meant right away. Thanks for being a pioneer! We probably don't deserve you.

Edit: bonus Captain Holt

u/Leleek Dec 13 '17

You go girl! If you don't mind me asking, do you know how you are counted in voting statistics?

5

u/Drpained Texas Dec 13 '17

Still male on my license, sadly. It's going to be a slow process because I'm a student with a part-time job. But once I'm out of school and employed with insurance, I'm probably getting out of here to a place that's more accepting anyways

u/Fehinaction Dec 14 '17

My friend has this with their health card where they need it to say female still to qualify for certain surgeries/treatments. It is annoying that you have to do everything so carefully to not get screwed. Best of luck!

I think he moved from Texas to the male gender.

1

u/jack3017 Dec 13 '17

Valid question, but just a quick correction. Male is not a gender, it’s biological, man/boy/etc is the gender you’re thinking of and is the collection of values and stuff our society has pinned to the male sex for a variety of reasons.

3

u/bongggblue New York Dec 13 '17

Yeah I'm not sure of the proper term, I was just curious if it was a male that moved from Texas or a Texan that moved from male. I was high, but as someone implied by the flair, it was most likely the latter, and that's cool.

2

u/BraveOmeter Dec 13 '17

How did you come around?

2

u/[deleted] Dec 13 '17

I just started seeing the hypocrisy and contradictions. I just left politics altogether as I got sick of it. It wasn't until I heard of Bernie last year that I became very liberal.

Texan who lives in NY now as well. My dad's side of the family is still in Texas and is every bit as bad as Alabama. My dad once told me if the government tried to publicly fund higher education it would be cause for a second civil war... Coming from the man who had his higher education paid for by the government. He's #MAGA all the way and thinks "your people" (the Dems) are destroying the world and must be ousted at all cost.

5

u/-wnr- Dec 13 '17

Seems about right. The reddest, most "small government" parts of the country generally take more federal money than they contribute in taxes. It's all awful, socialist programs except when they're taking advantage of them.

5

u/Drpained Texas Dec 13 '17

Take your Government hands off my Medicare!!

1

u/DriftwoodBadger New York Dec 13 '17

That damned socialism, it ruins everything! I pulled myself up by own bootstraps, I did. I built my own electrical grid, and I only drive on roads that I paved myself on land that I own. When my house catches fire, I only accept help from my own private fire department, and I personally employee police that protect just me. When I needed goods shipped across the country, I started my own postal service! I refine my own gasoline from oil that I dug up with my own two hands, and all of my bananas are grown in a field behind my house. No sirree, no dirty socialist public infrastructure for me.

1

u/-wnr- Dec 13 '17

Good on you. The last time those commie firemen came to put out my house fire I told em to piss off!

3

u/Spreebald Dec 13 '17

It looks like your post is causing confusion because you started with the phrase ‘white male’ (adjective noun), modified the noun to be an adjective while adding another noun at the end ‘white former-male Texan’ (adjective adjective noun), but ran afoul of English’s rules for ordering adjectives.

For example, if you were to say ‘the little green car’ nobody would object, but if you said ‘the green little car’ then everyone would think you are a maniac.

2

u/Drpained Texas Dec 13 '17

Ya, I totally get it.

The only reason I worded it as such was to mirror his "as a white male in Alabama," to address precisely what I'm responding to. It is an odd way to phrase it, especially because people don't generally casually drop gender identity when it's not relevant.

2

u/anechoicmedia Dec 13 '17

As a white former-male Texan

Are you white? Are you sure you aren't Jewish?

2

u/Pandoras_Fox Dec 13 '17

white former-male Texan

Hey, I'm a white former-male former-Texan! :D

I totally saw the same stuff back when I lived there. Apparently, not hating people that are different make us elitist assholes.

2

u/Drpained Texas Dec 13 '17

Yup. We're the bigots because we won't let them discriminate in peace.

1

u/infininme Dec 13 '17

Republicans and the right wing only care about being in power and winning. For example, deficits are bad until they're in power. They will say anything and everything they think will get you on their side. Death panels, etc. So many lies; so much PR and no substance, basically the essence of Donald Trump. This is a Koch brother strategy from their playbook. Fuck the Koch brothers, Art Pope, and all the other rich conservative assholes who think they shit gold.

0

u/mjsdabeast Dec 13 '17

Former male? Sad to hear, hopefully you are seeking help for your illness

3

u/Drpained Texas Dec 13 '17

Actually, yes. I had to see 3 separate doctors to even begin my transition.

Furthermore, I'm still going to a therapist over the PTSD I got from when my parents had an exorcism to try to burn the evil spirits from my brain, because they too didn't understand how this perfectly normal phenomenon could curse their failure of a son.
