I've seen you in a few threads in this sub, and while our beliefs certainly do not align based on your comment history, I appreciate your ability to come into a heavily liberal-leaning sub and keep the conversation civil. (Going both ways, you seem to manage to keep other users calm as much as not instigating). Pretty much a talent nowadays.

We fixed politics, guys

Well there could be more of this but simply not being a democrat in this subreddit gets your comments downvoted

At times it feels like an ideological Berlin Wall of sorts has been set up between us. In the words of your Reagan, "tear down this wall!"

I love both of you. As a centrist (in the UK, probably a democrat in the us) bipartisanship and cooperation is one of the most important things I look for in a candidate

Went looking (in your post history) for dog photos, and instead found incorrect information about Heather Heyer.

Coroner says she died due to blunt force injury to the chest, just fyi. Not a heart attack.

Thanks for the response. I can't read the article you linked without signing up for the website. At the time of my comments, I was basing my opinion on her mother's statement that her daughter had had a heart attack.

It was in stark contrast to the media saying that her daughter was mowed down by a Nazi car. Heather was young and it's sad that she died while out protesting for what she believed in, but she wasn't murdered by a Nazi.

One woman who was hit by the car was wearing a blue shirt. The media broadcast this picture of her on the hood of the car (that is awful, absolutely do not condone this at all), but tried to say that was Heather. Heather was wearing a black shirt on the day of her death. She is photographed before she was killed and photographed on a stretcher in a black shirt. It wasn't the same girl. Still, the media has shoved the narrative down our throats that Heather was murdered by a Nazi. It's just so dishonest.

The story I originally heard was that Heather fell over when other people pushed her out of the way, and she had a massive heart attack. If it was a blunt force injury to the chest, that's also possible and certainly believable. Thank you for the correction. Just upsets me that so many people have used her death as a rallying call for violence and revenge.

I don't think I have any of my dog's pictures in my account history, but she is a shih-tzu, if you are curious what she looks like :) take care.

I second this statement. Even if I disagree with his choice in candidate for the 2016 election or policies, I fully appreciate and respect someone from the other side that can have an educated, and even more importantly a tame response. The wave of Fox News Conservatives this past year who constantly throw out frustrating whataboutisms, logical fallacies, insults, or as a last ditch defense mechanism call all of your sources fake with no basis have really gotten under my skin recently. The fact people like him exist make me genuinely happy and want to engage in conversation with the other side.

3

u/HillarysHotSauce Dec 20 '17

Appreciate your comment. All for civil discourse. We are all Americans. We have a lot more in common than we have differences to bicker about.

4

u/GreasyBud Dec 19 '17

I agree completely. if people from both sides would just calm down and talk to one another so much more could get done.

i feel that only then can both republicans and democrats can look at the government and say "yea this whole thing is really fucked, how can we fix it"

2

u/HillarysHotSauce Dec 20 '17

We almost had Bush VS Hillary this past election. It's time we take our government back. It's not the blue team VS the red team. It's just a vague purple nonsense. Educate yourself on issues that matter to you, and vote in every election.

Media is riling people up to be Us VS them, but we are all in this together. Work together.

u/Damberger Dec 20 '17

I tried to do that with r/conservative. I explicitly said I'm left leaning and presented my arguments but would like to engage in discussion with people who have a different opinion than me. Nope. Got banned. Are there any right leaning subs that are more moderate and open to discourse?

3

u/teenitinijenni Michigan Dec 20 '17

I’ve heard r/republican is more open to conflicting opinions. Also r/neutralpolitics is pretty good but requires serious thought and time to get into the discussions since everything needs to be sourced. I lurked a bit in r/asktrumpsupporters for a while after the election before it devolved into a shitshow but you might want to take a look to see if it’s gotten better.

u/blazingeye Dec 19 '17

That's what we're trying to build at /r/fairmoderate
