Hi! I don't have any research or quantitative experience (no college math) and haven't had a job in public health. Are top programs like those at UNC Chapel Hill and Dartmouth out of the question?

I got a 154 on the GRE quant section and am planning to start a graded online intro stats class in the next week or so (that I'm pretty nervous about).

Just from my personal experience, I applied to UNC Chapel Hill and didn’t get in. It seemed they wanted applicants with more public health related experience (maybe 3+ years?). My quant score was 156 and my undergrad and limited work experience back then was unrelated to public health.

Hey, thanks for responding! Would you mind sharing more about your background when you applied and where you ended up getting admitted? Thanks so much!

My undergrad was in international development. I applied for two other programs besides UNC and got into both Boston and Emory University for their International/Global Health programs for 2012. Decided to go to Emory because it seemed there were more opportunities for workstudy, practicums, and relevant thesis advisors. Also, I visited Boston in April and still felt that their unusually warm weather was cold.

Haha I feel ya on the weather! I'm from the east coast but dread winters. And thanks for the additional info. Would you mind if I pm you to discuss more?
