DISCUSSION With the scale back of monitoring foodborne illnesses would it make sense to cut out some foods from diets?

For example- maybe those of us who have weaker stomachs or have other chronic health issues.

IE- maybe cut out uncooked foods like salads... Any thoughts on this?

Just Venting I’m a Pregnant Lady and I’m Pissed.

MPH working in pharma, and pregnant, and really fucking mad. What about MY freedom TO vaccinate? TO make the choice for myself and for my baby? I know they’re going to pull childhood vaccines next. What the fuck am I going to do in February when this baby is born? Drive to Canada with an unvaccinated baby? I’m scared, I’m tired, but mainly I’m furious and I’m furious that democrats aren’t doing shit.

EDIT TO CLARIFY: ELECTED DEMOCRATIC OFFICIALS should be doing the thing they are ELECTED TO DO

FLUFF I got a job as accountant.

I graduated last May for my MPH in EPI and struggling to get a job. 2 days ago I got a part-time job as a bookkeeper getting paid $35 per hour. I know it’s only part-time but I’m so happy. It’s a 12-minute walk from my parents’ house. So I can save money and now I can focus on getting a 2nd job.

Ugh.

In a social media post, Mr. Kennedy said the approvals accomplished the goals of keeping vaccines available to people who want them and of demanding that companies conduct placebo-controlled trials. One new, required study would examine “post-Covid-19 vaccination syndrome” in patients, a condition that has been noted in at least one small preliminary medical report, but is still a matter of pitched debate.

RESOURCE In what roles could an MPH or PhD in Epi be useful in social services/social work type of settings?

Hello, I’m in my last year of my mph and thinking of applying for a PhD in epi. I’m very interested in research as I’ve been in this space for 5+ years. What roles have you seen where I could be in a similar setting but involved more psychosocial maybe for programs for developmentally delayed individuals? Maybe I could work for a company that typically employs MSW but I could data and research program management? Not sure where to start looking for such roles.

NEWS “If that were to happen, pharmaceutical companies could stop producing the immunizations, which don’t tend to be very profitable, rather than get entangled in drawn-out, expensive lawsuits from claimants who can’t get money because the federal vaccine injury fund has run dry”

Having issues posting the link. You can find it on the KFF Health News site (highly recommend subscribing to the morning briefs via email to catch it all in real time).

Strategy unveiled. He wants to add autism and allergies to the list of those eligible for compensation from injury, which will bankrupt the fund. Everything in this article suggests it will happen.

RFKj and “his backers remain undeterred. In a counterpunch, his supporters are launching an unprecedented public relations campaign to promote the HHS secretary, spurring speculation that he may be mulling a 2028 presidential run.”

NEWS It felt like such a win to see every major physician group break from the CDC’s & HHS’ guidance. Not for those who are there, but for the public statement it made re: the state of healthcare.

Let me make it clear, I am pro-every HHS and CDC employee who is having to deal with this. My hope was that the statement these orgs made would increase awareness, thus adding pressure to RFKj’s policies. Something in this tells me providers should be afraid, period. I feel like it’s only a matter of time before he starts pursuing action against all of those working in direct care. Not just over this, but for providing general care that is EBP and indicated. Gut punch, to say the least.

Support Needed Pregnancy Vaccines

Hi all, I’m 26 weeks pregnant and plan on getting all the recommended vaccinations per ACOG. I know they will give me Tdap at my 28 week appointment. For flu and Covid, should I get them as soon as the new formulations are available? Or when in my pregnancy would they be most effective? For RSV, should I get it and when? Or would be more effective for my daughter to get it when she is born (due December 2nd). My goal is maximum protection for the baby! TIA!

DISCUSSION IP role requiring only a HS diploma…Is it safe?

There is a job posting at my local hospital for an IP role, and the only education requirement is a high school diploma.

Is this a thing in other places? Is it safe?

I have only ever seen IP positions require an RN or MPH (usually preferring experience and CBIC certification as well).

NEWS CDC Doesn’t Seem to Think Foodborne Illnesses Are a Thing Anymore

A lack of funding reportedly forced a federal-state partnership to scale back.

Prior to July 1, the Foodborne Diseases Active Surveillance Network—also known as FoodNet—was tracking infections caused by eight pathogens, including campylobacter, cyclospora, listeria, shigella, vibrio and Yersinia, some of which are the root cause of serious or life threatening illness.

That number has now been reduced to just two: salmonella and the Shiga toxin-producing E. coli, according to the report.

NEWS Purchase COVID vaccines

I'm not a public health official or medical professional. But I'm wondering, if the 2025-2026 vaccine is released before the administration cancels it (as the rumors would suggest will happen), is it allowable for citizens to purchase the vaccine in a syringe, store it refrigerated, and then have a friend who might be a practicing nurse or former nurse or doctor, simply give them the jab in the pectoral (edit: deltoid. Sheesh. Pec would probably hurt like hell) this fall?

It might sound crazy, I'm just trying to find a way to not have to travel outside the US to get vaccinated. I'm in multiple high risk groups. I don't want to suggest anything illegal, but somehow it sounds like this wouldn't be allowed.
