Discussion It's been a month, any tips for The Desert Perpetual for optimising runs ?
Topic. So I have watched almost all popular streamer guides. Usually these guides are made within a week or launch of raid and are most of the time not the most optimised version. Over the course people refine stuff (remember the 4 dunk strat of DSC boss) to have a more efficient run of raids. I have completed raid two times still I am not confident enough for every role. Following are stuff which I personally have trouble .
1) First of all The traversal section is complete travesty. More during going back. So does any one have best route to go back. Any YT videos related to it would be helpful.
2) The hydra encounter - I used to have problem while shooting eyes during dps. So I saw llama guy guide I guess. So one very usefull thing was that the eyes spawn only after the shield cross the grass/plants. So u can place urself their beforehand, clear nearby ads and shot eyes comfortably . One team was doing only two people doing mechanics, like they both were doing inside and outside eyes. Don't know how.
3) Wyvern encounter- Pretty easy one have always one phased him. Just the climbing part is nuisance . Heard invisibility helps. But any other tips would be usefull.
4) Hobgoblin - This is perfect example of how strategy are optimised. Earlier I think guides mentioned the non aligned buff guys had to tell 4 rings which need to be charged again. But later people told the one who is aligned will tell the single one which need not to be charged again.
5) Final Boss - As a constant person. While shooting mines, how many are true and how many are false. Are total 3 lines per color and 1 is false rest both true right ?
Please help a casual raider

1) shatter skate / well skating makes traversal quick, major enemies need to be defeated along the way back to mid though. Grapple, Mountain top, heat rises, all make easy.
2) on Hydra, I use a reconstruction machine gun for eyes, team mates use trace rifles. Only 4 people really need to do anything, 2 people can add clear or whatever.
5) Final Boss, 1 fake mine, 2 real mines is correct.

For hydra really only 2 people have to do anything outside of DPS extension mechanics. You do have to be quick tho. Our group has taken to this strat since we mostly do teaching runs and for some reason epoptes really trips people up

Is there a way to short cut the mid eye shooting phase wipe mechanic that im not aware off?

u/CruelSilenc3r 17d ago
No your eye readers(that's what our group call it) just does both.
Flow goes like this:
2 players buff then go to room and kill 3-4 eyes
The two with buff go to middle when eyes close, call out middle eyes and shoot respective call-out on middle pillar. (They Need to remember their call-out)
Return to room to shoot the triangle.
Rebuff and shoot remaining eyes.
Like I said you do have to be quick we use eager edge swords to do it and since outbreak/super is perfectly fine DPS have not struggled even with 5 feats.

Offtt. That's far beyond me and my crews ability haha. Crazy hectic.

It's definitely not a strat for everyone and really not necessary if you have a standard crew. A couple in my group are practicing low man starts/ we also teach a ton so being able to low man mechanics when needs is quite nice

u/BurstPanther 17d ago
Oh I can 100% see that it would work and it is great for low man obviously, so I don't doubt you couldn't do it for a second haha.

so this just requires the first duo to be fast enough that they can leave the room and shoot outside eyes? that doesnt seem so bad
2
u/CruelSilenc3r 16d ago
Yea just 1 solid duo can do all the mechanics for epoptes. It's really not all that difficult.

u/Quinnsten 14d ago
Isn't this strategy not possible with 5 feat due to one of the challenges requiring 2 people shooting eyes in both rooms?

1 Alethonym/micro missile frame makes traversals a breeze.
3 (For climbers) Disorienting frame grenade launchers make it very free. Alternatively if you prefer to kill just run a rocket pulse or rocket sidearm
5 You are correct with your assumption. 3 mines will spawn of each colour, 2 are real and 1 is fake. Once you find the fake one you can assume the rest of that colour are real.

3 good idea on the disorienting grenade launcher. As an alternative, I've been doing the climbing on prismatic getaway artist warlock with rocket sidearm. First platforms, throw down stasis turret, cast healing rift, rocket sidearm imps to death, interact with box, subsequent waves of imps get frozen and I can interact with last 2 boxes without killing anymore imps. Song of flame with tractor for boss damage.

If you want to look for optimization I would recommend referencing the Lowman guide since it can be quite useful for some things.
The traversal is always gonna suck the only thing I can say is maybe alethonym would be useful alongside an eager edge sword.
On hydra you can have 2 people do the main mechanic really easily you just have to be a little fast and probably have an eager edge sword.
On wyvern rocket sidearm fully kills an imp swarm just by shooting the main one.
On hobgoblin after the 5 chronons are deposited initially and he gets impatient the person who would need to go align with the boss will be able to read all 4 callouts before they align or better yet just read the one bad one. Once they align it stops working I believe.
On final it's 2 true 1 false of each colour which means if one is false the others must be true.

where's the low man guide located?

i'm not sure you're allowed to send links since some subreddits prevent it but it's just discord .gg/lowman

The hobgoblin thing where you read the one portal has since been patched. Now you need to read both sets of two non red portals

Traversal is a PAIN! For Hobgoblin and Wyvern, I stick to my right going to the encounter and stick to my right again coming out of the encounter. For Hydra encounter, there seems to be a most efficient path coming out of the encounter: left and up through the building (and crouch around the outside of the far left of the building), cross over to the right and up through the building, cross over to the left and out.
Hydra - Be in the light as much as possible so the team can do damage. Team should be ad clearing before you get into the light because the boss will be immune until both shooters are in the light. Trace rifles/machine guns are great for popping the eyes. My team does not enjoy chaos, so we have inside/outside/ad clear. Inside will only break 3 eyes each and give outside a quiet moment to clear the ads/cyclops before the wipe timer starts. (I have done it the "faster" of popping as many eyes as possible before the wipe timer, but my team prefers the slower, less chaotic way)
Wyvern - Rat King worked well for our runner. Rocket sidearms/pulses and Hellion are also good.
Hobgoblin - My team prefers to be quick and choose our own runner, so we communicate the 4 good rings. If you allow the time/boss to choose the runner, they can call 1 bad ring before they align their pylon. Both ways work just fine.
Final Boss - Yep. 3 mines of each color, 1 bad 2 good. Shooting the bad one drains the hourglass. I enjoy double dunking because it's faster, but single dunking is very chill and good for teaching/learning. At the top, standing on the missing cube to identify the good cube is a genius strat! You're communicating the matching cube without taking the time to talk about it. (My team was talking it out at first and wasted so much time).

Wait, how do you choose the runner on Hobgoblin? My group has only done the "wait for boss" way.
1
u/kiblitz42 14d ago
We clear ads, kill Hydra, dunk chronons, kill Wyverns and second Hydra, then plate bois get their buffs and we send Randy off to go touch his pylon before the boss "gets impatient" or whatever the flavor text says.

You interact with the obelisk underneath the boss you want to force alignment with.
Now that the alignment “bug” is fixed, many LFGs are even too impatient to wait.

Root of Nightmares drops a trace rifle with reconstruction. It's perfect for hydra eye popping.

I've only done it a few times, but I can answer one of those for sure.
- There are 3 mines per color. 2 are real and 1 is fake. If you're doing callouts, and the first one you shoot at is fake, the other two will be guaranteed real.
The rest are guesses:
For Hydra healing turrets for warlocks help. Healing nades in general help if you're running solar. Fireteam can take a couple seconds to shoot some down because the boss shields before each eyes phase. We do this when we do the thing where it spawns extra cyclops.
The rest, still working on it.

Wyvern enc: rocket sidearm makes easy work of the imps for the climber. Hydra enc: trace rifle works very well for shooting eyes Hobgoblin enc: wait to grab buffs until the snipe timer starts. Whoever needs to align can see one red ring to call out as the only ring to not dunk in before interacting under the respective boss clone so that the other two people with buff don’t have to do anything Lastly, save time in final encounter by having 2 people dunk chronons into the hourglass at the same time, constant buff holder just has to find 2 real bombs instead of one during that part and cyclical buff holders jump through together

Just a couple I have thoughts on: 2. It’s helpful to know when they start for the sake of being ready, but you should be in your light the entire time as the boss is assume when shields are up unless both people are standing in their lights
If you’re dying while climbing, my recommendation would be to use an explosive weapon for the imps. I’m still trying to find the best option, but I’ve definitely been able to kill the imp including the tiny ones in a single burst of the rocket pulse
You’re correct. 2 true and 1 false per color. Though do note that it’s possible for people to get confused and think the same mine is actually a different one because it moved (I have done this on at least one occasion), so it’s probably worth the extra couple seconds to make the call unless you’re speedrunning or 100% trust everyone on the team not the make the mistake

Controller people what do you use to break the eye during hydra dmg phase? Eyes have no aim assist and I run out of time half the time

I use a machine gun with reconstruction, this way I don't need to worry about reloading.
DPS is Outbreak so I don't need to worry about wasting heavy

I've always used trace rifles and you can avoid the flinch issue if you shoot from the hip

The duo mechanics for Hydra is honestly super easy once you get it(I mean that goes with everything but yknow) buddy and I were duoing mechs and everyone else clear/dps for a farm.
The eyes people just do eyes like normal, ideally 4, then once it’s “outside” time, those two speed outside, do the calls, shoot their respective eyes, then boook it back inside, remember their call and shoot the corresponding ball on the triangle thing above their hydra. Finish the remaining eyes then head out for dps.
Shooting eyes, a trace gets it done easy, Outbreak(original I know) one bursts them and two bursts the big glowing one. Gotta be a bit more careful with that as the burst can accidentally hit another(not for DPS but for pre-mechs). A machine gun does well and so on. Really anything with decent mag size works although I haven’t used an auto. I personally don’t recommend a rocket sidearm entirely from what I’ve seen.
For dps you want to be rotating with the glowing eye/shield as that allows the rest of the team to DPS, but it’s a good reminder that when they move to the plants, is when the eyes generally appear.
Edit: duo mechanics, Eager sword helps massively as mostly it’d be Outbreak damage but not using it also works fine, just gotta be a bit quicker and WATCH THE TIMER. Standing in front of a glowing eye with the buff pauses the timer.

For hydra, the pillar people outside that have to call the top/left/right for inside people can get the plate buff when inside people are on their 3rd set before the cyclops spawn. Then they can position themselves super early to give the calls for inside shooters and have a good angle to shoot the pillar

For the final boss, have the one who's running to extend the dmg phase equip tractor. This will mitigate the fact that he's not helping with dmg Worked amazingly great for my team

For Hydra damage phase, don’t just stand where the eyes will appear. Having both chosen people stand in the “light” of the boss’s shield lowers the boss’s immunity shield and allows your other teammates to deal damage. If you just move to where the eyes will appear, you will miss out on a good chunk of damage.
