Question/Recommendation Is there anywhere to buy queso asadero in the Raleigh/Garner area?

I'm looking for a block of queso asadero to make chile rellenos. All I'm seeing online for grocery stores in the area is a shredded mixed bag of multiple cheese types that includes some shreds of asadero.

I've checked: - Wegman's - Harris Teeter - Publix - Lowe's Foods - Food Lion - Carlie C's - Target - Walmart

International Foods off of New Bern usually has a pretty big selection of various Hispanic cheeses.

Oaxaca cheese is a little more traditional for chiles rellenos and a lot easier to find, FYI.

I was wondering about that... the recipe I'm trying to use specifies queso asadero, so I was trying to stick to it, but it does seem to be easier to find oaxaca! I may end up going with that

They’re not very different at all. Both very mild, meltable white cheeses.

Yo, pro tip: you can also use Oaxaca cheese. My mom would always use Oaxaca, as that’s what we always had on hand. But I’ve also seen and know people who use pepper jack well.

International Foods at 421 Chapanoke Road (it’s in a shopping center) is a pretty solid Latin grocery near Garner with a large cheese section. They will almost certainly have what you’re looking for. El Toro Supermarket on Junction Boulevard is also worth a look and is not far from International Foods.

I mean, you could have googled "Hispanic grocery stores" we have a ton of them especially in the Garner area.

Yes, I could have, but my whiteness caused me to not even realize that was a thing 😅

I often fall victim to that myself. There are ethnic markets that I want to visit in the area, but when I have the time, my brain betrays me

Not in Raleigh, but every weekend (Sat and Sun until 5pm) Durham has a flea market and there are produce vendors who sell a variety of mexican cheeses. 1600 E Pettigrew St Durham, NC 27703
