Indoor Activities Anyone want to start a crafting club?

Hi all! I’m 38F looking for some new friends. Given my ADHD, I have a lot of random arts and crafts supplies. I’d love to start a group that meets up regularly. Lmk if you’re interested.

Indoor Activities The automatic flush toilets at RDU are too sensitive

I'm sitting here trying to drop the kids off and the toilet has flushed about 5 times.

Lean forward a little bit--flush.
Lean back a little bit--flush.
Reach for toilet paper--flush.
Sit still too long--believe it or not, flush.

Get up and leave--no flush.

Indoor Activities The DJs at Legends😤

As a gay about town i’m accusing Legends of crimes against the community by playing all these dusty top 40s hits at pride when 2024 has been a banner year for queer club bangers (Chappell Roan! Cowboy Carter! Charli xcx!) and yet the DJ closed the night with the same songs they played at my prom.

YALL i’m stomping my platform boots and clutching my pearls and BEGGING please just play some Beyoncé. Bring in some industrial/warehouse DJs. Do your history and play Kevin Aviance.

I love Legends but is it really a gay club if you can’t dance???

Indoor Activities Aside from Alamo, which first-run Raleigh-area movie theater is the nicest/most chill for seeing a movie?

I love movies. I love seeing them on a big screen in a theater with snacks and/or drinks (alcohol or soda). What I don’t like is people who buy a ticket to text and talk during the movie. Kids movies are the worst for that. Parents think they’ll just plop their kids down in front of the big screen for 2 hours while they scroll some garbage (but of course not on fine sites like this one) or just talk as if they’re at home.

Case in point: I took my kid to see the TMNT movie in 2023 at the Regal at North Hills. It was a full theater on a Sunday afternoon, and we had this couple next to us who kept texting/scrolling TikTok w sound on/talking as the movie started. 5 minutes into the actual movie, I asked as politely as I could if they could take it outside (hey, some of us grew up with the Turtles and we were excited to share it with our kids). As if he was waiting for me to say something the whole time, this dude immediately jumps out of his seat and squares up to fight me, drops a few f-bombs in front of the kids, and says if I don’t mind my fucking business, he’ll something something take my ass out etc etc. Needless to say my 6 year old got scared and immediately wanted to leave, and we did. Congrats, dickhead, you made us cower in fear of you at the Ninja Turtles movie. Great role model!

Since then, I’ve exclusively gone to Alamo. But now, they’re having issues, let’s say. I hope they resolve them.

So, Alamo aside, where have you had the best experience seeing first-run movies in Raleigh without everyone acting like trash?

I know we’ll probably have some Rialto supporters here (like me, we actually rented it out for my kid’s birthday once), but remember: they don’t do first-run movies anymore.

Indoor Activities Looking for Board Game Friends

Hi all! I’m a neurodivergent 38F looking for some sober friends to play board games with weekly. I had success last time I did this, but everyone in my group moved away this year. I live just south of downtown on Tyron Rd. I love all games but some of my favorites are Catan, Sagrada, Azul, Morels among many many others. I just got sober recently, so having other sober friends around me is crucial. Look forward to hearing from y’all!

Indoor Activities Has Anyone Been to the Movies Lately?

My gf and I have the movie club membership at cinemark and go to the movies 1 or 2 times a week. We went yesterday to see Drop and The Amateur today, and it was INSANELY busy both days. Long lines for concessions, lines going out the door for the bathrooms (yes, even the men's bathroom), and lines on both sides where you fill your drinks.

We went to see Oppenheimer on opening weekend (when Barbie released at the same time), the Taylor Swift movie opening weekend, and bunch of marvel movies on opening weekend. I thought it was really busy those times, but it was nothing compared to how busy it was yesterday and today.

Is Drop or The Amateur that anticipated? I thought both movies were good, but neither are going to win any awards. Drop was advertised a lot, but I only remember seeing the trailer for The Amateur 1 time.

Is it a delayed response for the Minecraft movie? We saw it last week and it was nowhere near as busy.

Are other movie theaters like this? If so, anyone know why?

Hey! Wanted to get a pulse check on folks who would be interested in attending a game night I host at The Green Monkey in downtown? Was thinking maybe a Sunday afternoon from like 3-7(?). Would be 18+. Pic of space included. Let me know as a comment or via dm and would be happy to put a list together to coordinate!

Also I am aware movie theaters and not the place for luxury- just trying to get my desired vibe across lol

Will have out-of-town family in town for a couple days this week. I know the heat will be crazy, so what are some indoor things in town we can do? Most of my go-to ideas are outside. :/

Indoor Activities DnD this Weekend

Hi everybody,

I posted about this a few weeks ago, but now it’s a sure thing so I wanted to follow up. We would love a few more players.

I will be running a DnD oneshot at Gamers Geekery on Saturday in Cary at 2PM. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to play. Newbies are welcome! So are old pros.

I will supply character sheets, dice, etc. Just bring yourself.

This is a fun little adventure that takes place in a fishing town and surrounding area.

For those who know enough about DnD to ask about the edition, we are playing OSE, which is a rehash of BECMI. If you’re used to 5e, or you played any Baldur’s Gate games, your skills will translate well.

Comment or shoot me a chat if interested. Looking forward to playing with y’all.

Edit: SATURDAY at 2PM

Indoor Activities Louis CK show

I thought he put on a great show. I like how he shut down that audience member acting like they were the main character. "...naw I didn't come here to talk to you. I don't care what you have to say 😂

The soap and torture bit may have been my favorite bit.

Curious if anyone was downstairs at DPAC that could share what they saw during the interruption.

Just an FYI - if you haven’t seen this great movie or want to see it again, Marbles is playing it at night this weekend. It’s probably the last time it’ll be available in IMAX, and I don’t see it playing in the IMAX at Southpoint or Crossroads.

Showtimes: 5/15 - 7:30 PM

5/16 - 6:00 PM & 9:00 PM

5/17 - 6:00 PM & 9:00 PM

5/18 - 6:00 PM

If you’re not waiting for the restroom then please do not stand in the corridor to the restrooms. You’re in the way.

Whoever you’re with can find their way back down the hall, I promise.

Indoor Activities What the heck happened to Pools?

I used to love the vibe of that place. Took some friends last night and it had done a complete 180. It went from a cool hangout spot to a posh family restaurant decorated by a 60yo lady vibes. None of the cool staff were around too. What happened here?

Indoor Activities There's a clothing swap this weekend!

If you've never heard of a clothing swap, think thrifting but a million times better! You bring your gently worn clothes, shoes, purses, jewerly, and take all the new to you treasures you want. I have a number of pieces I love that I've found a swaps over the years.

Edit Beer Co is hosting one this Sunday at 10am (and the icing on the cake is $6 mimosas). I am so excited for this and needed to share!

How it works: Everyone's items are sorted into piles by size/type and once that's done it's a free for all. (There is no minimum number of items to swap but there is a $10 swap fee).

Edited for clarity.

Indoor Activities Activate is coming to Raleigh

Saw on their website that this indoor activity center (best to describe it) is coming to Raleigh.

https://playactivate.com/charlotte

Essentially you have roughly 8 locked chambers and for each chamber you have probably 5 different types of games depending on the room lay out. All the games are based around dark rooms with either lasers, buttons, balls with touch screens or a color coded electronic floor. You pay for an amount of time you want to play and the number of people who are playing and then you go and just play games and try to rank up. It is both fun and a good work out and a bit different. For those of you with very active kids, this will be right up their alley. Some of the games you can choose whether to be co-operative or competitive.

Indoor Activities Magic: The Gathering Causal EDH

I know Gamers Geekery has Causal EDH on Monday nights. Any other stores hold casual EDH and have a good scene/crowd? If so, which night of the week? Nothing worse than driving 30 minutes and not enough people to get a pod of 4 going. Thanks !

Indoor Activities Has anyone else heard of Cookout Ball?

I went to cookout tonight, and as I was waiting at the window, I saw a cookout employee throw something into a cup from across the kitchen.

I thought this was funny, and it reminded me of the shenanigans I would get into as a scooper at Ben & Jerry's. We used to try and get a popsicle stick to land on top of a wooden sign. Those were the good ol days.

I had to know if this was a regular thing, so I asked the man in the window, "what did he throw?" and he told me it was a paper ball.

Turns out, there's a game called Cookout Ball that gets played at locations across the triangle. There are three rules:

  1. The paper ball must stay in the cup
  2. No throwing over food (unsanitary)
  3. No dunks

Anyone else heard of Cookout Ball? Is he pulling my leg? It seemed legit, and I have always wondered if they have games they play to say sane in that little box.

I'd love to hear about any other games people have played in our local establishments
