Essentially the title. I hit what I thought was a massive pothole the other day on gulf court off westgate. I get out of my car and it turns out its a manhole / access hole that has the manhole cover missing. It was dark out and I was already having to dodge other potholes on this road etc so I just didn't see it.

I called the city to inform them about the manhole cover and asked if I could be reimbursed for my blown tire. The guy I talked to told me that is a road that the city isn't responsible for maintaining and told me that it would fall on the property owner? Im kind of assuming this is their way of dodging responsibility, but I went into the nearest open business to tell them about the manhole cover and when I asked them who they thought owned the road there they just assumed it would be the city?

Even if the city is responsible for that road is this even worth pursuing? Its probably not worth filing an insurance claim over a $200 tire so just trying to see if I can get somerhing back from them

I really want to show the woman of my dreams how much I love and care for her. I am looking to do a big reveal situation where I sing “No letting go” by Dan Caplen. I would love to do this at Moore Square, but I need a bunch of people to back up song for me…like a choir. They don’t have to be trained singers, but that would be a plus. I have a whole scene set up in my mind on how it’s going to go, and will be willing to let anyone interested in helping know exactly what I have in mind.

Hey all, about a week ago I was driving home on I-40 when my car suddenly started to blow hot, humid air into my car. Finally got it checked out today and was told it's a dead compressor that will take $1500-$2400 to fix. My first intention is to get a second opinion, however, if the compressor is truly electrically dead as they say, then I intend to buy a compressor online and then find someone who will do the installation for me. Thus, I come to you: Are there any mechanics in the Raleigh area (willing to drive to Durham, etc.) that you would recommend for having such a service done? My normal go-to place refuses to do installations with pre-bought parts and are overcharging me to have them use their own...

I live in an apartment in northwest raleigh off glenwood ave.
I find it to be very conveniently located to many things, even walkable for my coffee shop and bar and sushi (which is neat for being nowhere near downtown), but for some stores/chains it's like a desert where they have one everywhere else in Raleigh except for near here. Overall nice spot to rent as it's not as hip as downtown or similar, but still too expensive to buy in unfortunately.

What's everyones thoughts about their own corner of Raleigh?

Hey y'all. Im a student at NCSU and I've been here for three years now, but im born and raised in Charlotte. Anyone familiar with Charlotte knows the extreme amount of gentrification that has taken place, and is still taking place (south end, noda, etc.) I really hate it and it's mostly "luxury" apartments for transplant finance bros. However, I've always felt that Raleigh is much more organic and longstanding. I don't know any areas of Raleigh with the same soulless feeling of South End Charlotte or Noda. Because of that, I like Raleigh way more. But I've only been here three years, so I'm wondering what the natives think. Where do y'all see the most gentrification?

I just purchased a second-hand electric cultivator/tiller and the on/off/throttle handle broke. I can’t find a replacement part online. I’ve emailed the manufacturer but haven’t heard back. They don’t show any parts in stock in their website.

I’m hoping y’all can help me. I had the sweetest interaction today while waiting for my food with an elderly woman. I’m kicking myself for not asking for her name and getting more information from her. Just through casual conversation I learned how alone she felt and I could tell that she clearly needed connection and quite frankly as do I. While, the interaction I had with her was very wholesome, in regards to animals she’s owned, and getting older. I couldn’t help but dwell in the fact that she really didn’t have much family or a husband. She expressed me how she would love to have more animals, but she was so afraid of dying soon that nobody would be able to take care of them, and she didn’t want them to go to a shelter and live there the rest of their lives. I didn’t wanna pry too much, but I did ask about neighbors and family and that’s when she told me she didn’t have any neighbors and she only had two sisters who weren’t in much better health and we’re older. I thought about our conversation the entire ride home and how her just having a friend would probably cheer her up. At the end of our combo, she thanked me just for that just for conversing with her and wished me a great weekend. Does anybody know of any organizations that I can maybe volunteer to help out in situations like these where the elderly do not have family do not have a partner and just need companionship and conversation? About a year ago now I actually called a elderly home and asked this question and I was told I would get a call back and never received one. I think this would not only benefit them but also myself. There’s a lot of wisdom to gain from the elderly, but there’s also a lot of genuine happiness as well to gain from them. I wish I knew more about this woman cause I would gladly talk to her again, but in the meantime, any help you guys can give in terms of volunteering with the elderly would be helpful.

Can you think of any places that are particularly strange? Places that leave you wondering about what it was like in its prime. For example, I can think of two. The odd plaza/fountain area of La Rancharita/ Vinnies Steak house restaurants, and then the odd quiet building where arepa culture off of Glenwood is. There’s something about them that is off and oddly beautiful. Maybe not described well enough, but curious if anyone else has had similar observations/experiences. Edit: not that the areas I gave as examples are defunct, but looking for other interesting places that may also be considered defunct.

Are there any gyms that have a cold plunge other than Lifetime? I normally workout around 5:30am and don’t utilize personal training, group classes, or other amenities so the cost of lifetime just for free weights and a cold plunge doesn’t make it worth it to me.

I have a friend from NYC who is very fancy and wants to come visit me and a few other local friends. She will only stay in top tier hotels. Must have room service.

She did find the Carolina Inn interesting when she looked at it online but I don’t know how it is but it’s also a little far from some of her friends in Rocky Mount.

Hi! I give birth in 7 short weeks! I’m seeing all over tiktok what to pack in my hospital bag, but I was wondering if anyone had experience with what WakeMed provided you with?

Like I’m happy to bring the Mom Frida shorts, but will they provide hospital ones that hold me over for a day and half? Im a FTM so I have no idea what diapers this kid prefers, do I need to bring some? I’m trying to figure out how to not overpack lol

Bonus points if you know how many nurses/staff on the floor per shift so I can properly set up their thank you baskets :)
