Diario AS [AS] Ibrahima Konate has agreed to join Real Madrid, whether this summer or next. Madrid want Konaté, and at zero cost, next summer. However, the possibility of a last-minute move in this market of an offer — never exceeding €20-25 million is gaining momentum at the club.

Given we paid 10 mill to Liverpool to get Trent a month earlier I highly doubt they would sell us Konate for 20-25 mill

105

u/BodomDeth Madrid 1941 26d ago

Yeah but they wont have the leverage pf the CWC they had last year

87

u/TopStatisticianNRW Real Madrid 26d ago

Liverpool will be competing for all major trophies this upcoming season, 20-25 mill is nothing for them if Konate can contribute to winning a trophy. They would rather have him leave for free next season than accept that low sum. If we want Konate now I can imagine Liverpool will ask for 50 mill

13

u/BodomDeth Madrid 1941 26d ago

They still have time to buy a replacement though

I’m a Liverpool fan and you clearly have no idea the state of our CB position. We literally only have Van Dijk and Konate. Leoni is almost done but he is 18 and will take a lot of time to get the ball rolling and there is some kind of chance of getting Guehi. 0% chance of us selling Konate until next summer.

17

u/FunnyEra 26d ago

0% chance of you selling Konate next summer too.

8

u/OUmegaLUL 26d ago

Yeah because he will go for free but at least we will have a chance of winning the league with him this season

1

u/Milf4kmAway 26d ago

I do. Fabrizio ”here we go” came yesterday about leoni to Liverpool.

are close to Marc guehi now imagine how much more you will fight for his signature if u sell konate now

1

u/k0ppite 26d ago

But you want him for less than Guehi is signing for despite Konate being the far better player?

1

u/retroComputer Sergio Ramos 26d ago

I'm good with that. Militao seems to be recovering better than we thought and it wouldn't make sense to spend money on a guy they could sign for free next season.

1

u/DAI-ET Carvajal 26d ago

I agree. I feel like the only way we'd be able to even have a chance at konate, would be if slot secures guehi first.

-4

u/BodomDeth Madrid 1941 26d ago

Why not sell him, pocket 20-25mil and buy a new defender now, rather than wait for Konate to leave on a free next year ?

14

u/iMadrid11 26d ago

The challenge for every summer transfer window is finding which player is available?

2

u/BodomDeth Madrid 1941 26d ago

Yes

5

u/CollierAM9 26d ago

If Guehi has one year left and Palace want £35-40m then Liverpool will surely demand a lot more for Konate

3

u/LordBri14 26d ago

Palace want 35-40m because he is getting sold to a prem rival in liverpool. If he was sold abroad then he will be cheaper

0

u/CollierAM9 26d ago

Palace aren’t a rival. If anything, I’d consider Madrid and Liverpool more of a rival.

5

u/LordBri14 26d ago

What? Madrid do not play in england. Palace do. English players are always sold at a premium to another english club. This is a given already

Liverpool changed both wingbacks. What is the logic in destabilising defnse further this late in window for just 25 million?

3

u/OUmegaLUL 26d ago

Because he is our starter and we ain’t finding anyone close to his level for 25mil? Lmao

3

u/_skala_ 26d ago

One more winning season with your starting CB > 25m. It’s not easy to find replacement. Look at Madrid.

3

u/ghostofwinter88 26d ago

Because liverpool dont need 20-25 million, theyve just overhauled their starting rb and lb an their attack, and dont need any more instability.

3

u/Homerduff16 26d ago

As a Liverpool fan, Crystal Palace are asking for £40-£50 million for Guehi who has one year left on his contract and he isn't better than Konate. Why would we even consider such an insultingly low-ball offer from a club that we know could absolutely afford to pay 50-60 million for Konate if they really wanted to but doesn't because you feel entitled for us to constantly bend over for you

Madrid are undoubtedly a bigger club than us and will always have a certain kind of pull that none of the English teams will likely ever have but why should we jeopardise our own ambitions on a domestic and continental level just because you like tapping up our players so that you can sign them for free or for a discounted price?

0

u/k0ppite 26d ago

Yeah it’s ridiculous. Can’t expect us to entertain such low offers especially considering what happened with Trent. If you want favourable transfer dealings you need a good relationship with other clubs and you don’t get good relationships by tapping up players and poaching them for free constantly. It’s a trade off you have to accept.

1

u/golf8116 26d ago

Because there isn’t one of his quality available and we are already short of CBs. The season starts tomorrow!

1

u/Anfield_YNWA 26d ago

Need Konante for this year, Liverpool already has two new faces on the back 4 and is working on bringing in reinforcements at CB. By next season I imagine it's a lot easier to let him leave on a free than get 50m now and scramble for a starter.

1

u/supterfuge 25d ago

Do you sincerely think they can buy anything close to a replacement for Konate with 20-25M ?

2

u/TopStatisticianNRW Real Madrid 26d ago

If they find a long term replacement, true, good point

1

u/Valveringham85 26d ago

Depends. They already signed Leoni. If they manage to sign Guehi too they’ll have 5 CB’s. They might agree to let Konaté go then.

-3

u/OnlyHereForVerde 26d ago

Sell Rodrygo to fund this transfer. I love Rodrygo but I’d make a deal with city in a heartbeat if it meant Konate came to Madrid

2

u/tort3 Vinicius Jr. 26d ago

Apparently Liverpool don’t want him to leave free so if he doesn’t accept a renewal offer they will put a price on him this Summer.

1

u/good_kid_maad_reddit 25d ago

Still, 20M for konate is a spit in the face. If i were liverpool id rather keep him for the season. The way other pl teams are looking, unless city secures rodrygo, liverpool is easily the best team. Thats another title with all the money that comes with it and more time and money to scout a good cb

1

u/justiceway1 Kaka 26d ago

Not like they have a choice. If Konate tells them that he won't renew, they can either risk having a disgruntled player (who happens to be a starter) leave in a year's time for free, or you can get some compensation for him now and set yourself up to replace him before undergoing the season.

2

u/cuoreesitante 26d ago

He's not going to kick up a fuss and banish himself over a move this summer, especially with the WC coming up. Not to mention if he moves for free next summer he's due a much bigger signing bonus and wages too.

If I'm Liverpool I'd be happy to keep him on this season and compete for everything. Winning another couple of trophies is more valuable than the 20-25M that they'd get.

1

u/supterfuge 25d ago

The season starts tomorrow and you can't get a player anywhere close to Konate's quality for 25M, in a season when you have ambitions and don't want to have to rely on taking a chance

88

u/ElectroValley Modric 26d ago

This dude is kinda injury prone. I don't get the obsession with him. He's a good defender though

60

u/_skala_ 26d ago

It’s cheap option. Starting CB from premier league champion is always good signing.

But I don’t believe it will happen that cheap. One more season from him is probably worth more than 25m.

22

u/nombrenodisponibIe 26d ago

We need a rotation spot at the hospital

2

u/FliX7270 26d ago

not always, injuries ruined alaba who was one of the best defenders back then. And ive a feeling in my gut that he wont thrive in xabis tactics.

27

u/Eikis16 Pepe 26d ago

Yeah I would prefer our not injury prone defenders like Militao and Alaba in stead

3

u/lligerr 26d ago

We already have Mili, Dean and Raul. He's only the 4th one

6

u/wetrwwr 26d ago

he'd fit in with the rest of defenders

1

u/prodigalkal7 Kroos 26d ago

kinda injury prone

He'll fit right in!

1

u/RioPlatense1996 Madrid 1902 25d ago

He started 30 games in the PL this past season and 7 in the CL. Is this before this past season? Because I thought he was just not playing 30+ games due to him not being first choice CB.

1

u/Enough-Force-5605 25d ago

He is the forst choice. But he uses to be injured or out of form

1

u/Enough-Force-5605 25d ago

And he needs more time than usual to be fit again.

88

u/blonsitobreve :eyebrow: 26d ago

Hope it happens because it would be very funny

42

u/sPoOdErMaN945 26d ago

I guess it will be a good move going for the signing right now!

Having a strong backup CB should be a priority as a LONGGGGGG SEASON awaits us.

38

u/DetoxIV 26d ago

There is no damn way he would be a backup, especially if we buy him out. The backups will be every other CB we have.

20

u/sPoOdErMaN945 26d ago

You are absolutely correct, we struggled a lot last season and only one signing of Hujsen isn't going tl convince me.

I DO NOT WANT TO SEE TCHOUAMENI as the back up CB in case of an injury.

0

u/youareabackchod 26d ago

Yep. I know he plays out of position as a CB. But the guy is the worst CB

4

u/HASMAD1 26d ago

A 3 CB lineup would be more plausible.

6

u/DetoxIV 26d ago

Sure. But regardless, Konate wont be warming the bench.

3

u/HASMAD1 26d ago

Yeah, him and Huijsen would be starters, no doubt.

20

u/KjOnReddit1010 26d ago

source = AS = trust me bro

15

u/New-Ad-9981 26d ago

Yea after Alaba is gone we need another injury prone, aging CB for a high wage who sit out his 5 year contract.

11

u/[deleted] 26d ago

A CB who will be 27 years old when they sign for RM is considered to be "aging".

That's a new one.

9

u/perucho1993 26d ago

Anyone above 25 is old according to this sub

2

u/Samurai_zero Fernando Redondo 26d ago

And practically dead after 30.

1

u/retroComputer Sergio Ramos 26d ago

29-32 are actually the prime years for a CB lol.

1

u/Naw-Kaleidoscope114 24d ago

What about Varane and Huijsen?

5

u/allhailsidneycrosby Jude Bellingham 25d ago

Why do fans like yourself act like Alaba wasn’t a great piece of business by the club? Came in, played very well, contributed in a huge way to the UCL win. That alone is enough for it to be successful. Yes, he’s old, injured, and overpaid now, but his contributions to the club were significant

-1

u/ValuableArachnid9704 25d ago

That's because your club does not like spending big money to buy their own players. Instead, always seeking it players at the end of their contracts and using the media to sensitize them about leaving on a free transfer. Your Madrid would soon be banned for player tapping

5

u/Eikis16 Pepe 26d ago

No way Liverpool sell him this year without a replacement lined up

0

u/perucho1993 26d ago

They signed a replacement

4

u/ghostofwinter88 26d ago

No they didnt.

Liverpool have an aging VvD, an injury prone gomez, and an injury prone konate as their senior CBs.

They signed a long term prospect as reinforcements., not a replacement

15

u/EntertainerSoggy9837 Modric 26d ago

them buying leoni for 35 mil and us getting konate for 20 is funny

3

u/Fit-Hovercraft2340 26d ago

Do we really need him?

We have 5 cb for this season- Huijsen Militao Rudiger Asencio Alaba

Injuries are a part of the game and yeah we need to have backups, but having 5 cb and also joan martinez who is supposed to be better than asencio....

I don't think we need another cb this season

Rather get a cm, we have just 4- Fede Tcho Cama Ceba

Arda and jude are CAM

1

u/Naw-Kaleidoscope114 24d ago

Don't we have Joan aswell??

1

u/Fit-Hovercraft2340 24d ago

Yeah we have him but not rn in the first team and that's my point, we don't need so many cb

0

u/Rac2nd Real Madrid 26d ago

Alaba & Asencio can’t be trusted if the other 3 get injured

10

u/Fit-Hovercraft2340 26d ago

Asencio was the same guy who saved our ass last season and now he's bad because of 2 games?

He believed us and signed a 5 year contract, we can't just make him 5th choice cb after signing players at his position when not needed...

4

u/Fit-Hovercraft2340 26d ago

Asencio was the same guy who saved our ass last season and now he's bad because of 2 games?

9

u/timtrue 26d ago

we fucked up with Zabarnyi big time. We should have bought Dean+Zaba and forget about CB problems for next 10+ years.

And now we're looking at the next Alaba.. nice..

10

u/nombrenodisponibIe 26d ago

Alaba helped us "forget" Ramos much faster than anyone thought and helped us win another UCL. I'll take an Alaba lol

5

u/perucho1993 26d ago

Who?

1

u/AcceleratingRiff Kroos 25d ago

Dean's partner at Bournemouth now off to PSG for 60m

2

u/eperuza 26d ago

More 🇫🇷 players at Madrid

5

u/YEEZYHERO Zidane 26d ago

Not Konate man ffs

1

u/nombrenodisponibIe 26d ago

Who else then?

2

u/Bini_9 26d ago

I don't understand why the club didn't go for Mosquera instead

1

u/OnlyAMuggle Real Madrid 26d ago

I don't see this happen in this window.

Liverpool are thin at the center back.

1

u/blueXwho Fernando Redondo 26d ago

is gaining momentum at the club

Who in the club? What's the source?

1

u/LordBri14 26d ago

I don’t think liverpool will ever make that trent mistake again. If he does not sign a new contract in the coming months then he will be sold in january. Madrid are definitely not getting him on a free

1

u/Valveringham85 26d ago edited 26d ago

The mistake has already been made my man. They’ve already lost control over the situation with the player having all the leverage.

Coming into a players final 12 months. That’s the mistake. Now he’s probably set his mind on Madrid and probably won’t leave for another club in January anyway.

Liverpool may want to sell him but there have to be buyers and the player has to agree to the move.

The only reasonable chance I see them having to sell him is to try and sell him now to Madrid.

1

u/LordBri14 26d ago

Yes. Liverpool will definitely sell him to madrid. They won’t let him leave on a free. Unless he actually signs a new contract which is 50/50 at this point.

1

u/Valveringham85 26d ago

I hope they don’t sell him to Madrid this summer and instead gamble on extending him during the season.

I don’t rate him. If he extends then good. If he joins Madrid then that way at least it’ll be on a free. At least it’ll be funny.

1

u/LordBri14 26d ago

I think that is the plan. January is when konate will be sold to madrid if he dosent sign

1

u/Valveringham85 26d ago edited 26d ago

Madrid doesnt make signings in January.

1

u/LordBri14 26d ago

Then just like trent konate will be benched in a world cup year. Which isn’t ideal for konate if he wants to start for france

1

u/Valveringham85 26d ago edited 26d ago

Ah they’ll behave like a small club throwing a tantrum will they? I doubt it.

0

u/LordBri14 26d ago

Liverpool are doing the exact same thing with isak. So their supporters should not be complaining

1

u/Valveringham85 26d ago

Even worse, they’re celebrating his refusal to play and train. Thats really shitty.

1

u/No_Page5201 26d ago

For that price would be a great signing

1

u/username220408 26d ago

Liverpool are gonna be mad at us for long time

1

u/Pwoper 26d ago

Get him free next year. We need a midfielder.

1

u/FliX7270 26d ago

Liverpool would definately bargain for more money, after trent. And wont be willing to selll it easily. Hes also injury prone and ive a feeling he might not adjust to our tactics, especially as it seems more likely for xabi to use a 3 back.

1

u/value_meal_papi 25d ago

We should wait, militao might be on to the greatest comeback ever n we might get him for free anyway

1

u/ErenKruger711 DOWNER 26d ago

Even if he’s a flop hope it happens for the lols

1

u/SonKagito SIUUUU 26d ago

Rudiger, dean, asencio, militao and plus konate.. we should be good on the cbs Tchou probably is praying konate will come

1

u/hey_vishal_here Real Madrid 26d ago

Bring him in this summer.

1

u/Fight_Teza_Fight Real Madrid 26d ago

It would be hilarious if this happens🤣!

1

u/Valveringham85 26d ago

If we’re going for depth I’d rather sign Gila back. If we’re looking for an elite starter then Konate isnt the way to go.

1

u/ValuableArachnid9704 25d ago

Konate is better than an your current CB options

1

u/Living_Series_2250 26d ago

Join… like the bench?

-1

u/Aismann 26d ago

Ah, the old “not allowed to negotiate with a player until 6 months before end of contract” in full display again…
