We have 2 amazing starting fullbacks, plus Carvajal and Fran coming off the bench. Also... Mendy.

No but seriously I think people have been too harsh on Trent, he's still adjusting. I like what I've seen so far and it'll only get better.

Today he played his best game since joining. A sick assist which VAR should’ve never ruled it out + accurate passes + solid defensively and this great save

Offside is a binary—either he’s off or he isn’t. It’s not a matter of subjectivity. Unfortunately, Mbappe was only just offside. It was unbelievably close, but offside nonetheless. Just bad luck.

Offside is binary but the automatic offside detection has a margin of error so can be wrong...

That’s not true. It really all depends on what frame VAR chooses as the frame that the passer touches the ball.

These frames are so tight that they’re almost negligible, making them easy to manipulate. This is my main issue with VAR

You can grab one take of the passer touching the ball and the runner being onside, and you can easily grab another take 0.05 seconds where the ball is still at the passers foot but now the runner is clearly past the defender

This true. I don't understand the downvotes. People forgot the weird incidents last year with the frame the VAR decides to choose and the ones where the VAR images just change slightly the shape or position of players. And the Lewandowski incident where his foot was made longer. VAR isn't this infallible system that everybody thinks it is. It's still operated by humans.

I love what I've seen so far. Him and Dani have different strengths. Trent being younger has a bit more promise now though. Doubt he'll ever reach dani's heights. But who can?

Loved that tackle. He generally had a good game. He will gradually improve defensively.

Tbf when Trent was at Liverpool we were also saying the same

You weren’t tho, you would defend him every week and then as soon as it was announced he wasn’t signing a new contract, Liverpool fans completely switched up

His crossing vision is great. If only mbappe can stay onside.....

Hala Madrid

u/KingEtame Vinicius Jr. 9d ago

That shit was onside. Don't care what nobody says.

There was video evidence? Regardless, let's say it was onside. His acceleration and speed is insane. Why does he need to play on the defenders shoulder? It's like he hasn't figured out how to play the high line. Easier said than done I guess.

And I'm not sold on the Argentinian yet. Maybe give brahim some more PT if xabi doesn't trust rodrygo anymore.

Video evidence is what they show you. They can show one take where the passer touches the ball and the striker is inside by beginning to make his run, and the next frame the ball still hasn’t left the foot but the runner is now offside

There needs to be a margin of error because these millimetrical offsides are easily manipulable

For 95% of the existence of the sport, this goal would've stood. The only time this goal is ruled off is with this microscopic VAR ruling with no margin of error. I call that ruining the game.

Well you'd be saying the exact opposite if it happened to any team against us

u/KingEtame Vinicius Jr. 8d ago

I don't know you and you don't know me... Don't tell me what I would or wouldn't do.

I need one of these at anfield, presumably a tight 3-2 and Liverpool struggling to equalize.

This and Carreras' saved the game.

6

u/Icy_Income2520 8d ago

Let’s go! This and what Carreras did will only boost confidence, on top of performing quite decent already

u/Secret_keeper7639 8d ago

He needs to play like this against Liverpool.... They were so annoying ( Still is ).

My biggest issue with offside is to rule out clear and obvious advantage which is didn't see any in that first mbappe goal so honestly the rule needs to be looked at.
