Offensively :

Vinicius created space for himself in between 2 defenders with his dribbling and went for the shot and scored, seems like his confidence is back and he is regaining form. Any player in that spot would have normally passed it , he didnt. While this might be a sign of reckless decision making to some , he seems to have regained confidence in his finishing.

Mbappe didnt score or assist , but thats okay. As a striker , he created several chances for the team and he was a constant threat in the box. ( he seemed pretty frustrated with that offside call , cant really blame him for that , la liga offside is never much understandble when the match in going on)

Mastantuono didnt do much in this match but this is to be expected , the pace of gameplay in la liga is more than that in the argentinian league , he will need time to adapt. Mbappe himself took like 2 - 3 months to fully adapt from ligue 1 to la liga gameplay , similar time frame will probably be needed by franco as well to see his best performance.

Arda guler played pretty well today. Mallorca defense was pretty shaky and guler almost got 2 goals , 1 got cancelled because of foul play during scoring , but he still performed pretty well in the cam spot.

Also , our pressing was pretty good today , that mainly helped vini get the ball and score.

Defensively :

I aint gonna lie , we would have conceded 2 extra goals today because of loose defending , carreras and trent saved us today with their last second defensive performances in dire situations.

Conceding from the corner , not much concerning cause Muriqi is a classic target man , he is good in scoring from aerial situations.

I must say trent doing what we feared he cant do 🤣🤣. None of us expected him to defend. Also , Huijsen has been pretty good , taking care of most aerial duels and also being in good positions to intercept the ball. Militao was also pretty good today.

Overall , today , our defense mostly relied on miracles , but thats what real madrid , Miracles are inbuilt into the system (seriously didnt expect carreras to do an acrobatic clearance like that).

Also, a big shoutout to Trent. His best game for us so far. On top of the clearance, he made some beautiful passes to Vini and Mbappe in the first half

He seems to be playing with heart. Thank God he isn't playing with the national team because we need him fully fit. I wish Spain's manager did the same with Carvajal who just came back from an ACL instead of calling him up.

Problem is sometimes laziness during defending in our middlefield.

Tchouameni is S tier CDM he is constantly shutting down opposition.Valverde don't have best defensive positioning but with his lungs he always cover 2 position.

Arda after 50 minutes cant keep up with defending because he is overcompensating with pressing and not giving up. Last night and during Oviedo game they were torturing us between 60-70 minute. Valverde was yelling all the time.

Good thing that Trent can play more central role and Carvajal is very good at defending.

I agree with you either way the lazy defending at times. Huijsen almost gave up a goal but luckily Trent had that tackle that stopped it. There were also a couple of times by getting right up on the attacker but only to end up getting turned. Overall good performance but of course would prefer to see a little more discipline in the defensive third

Huijsen has to start bulking up soon. He needs stronger muscles to keep up for 90 minutes.

Defensively , Valverde plays a similar role as what Park Ji Sung played under Ferguson. He doesnt really have a great defensive sense of space but he can manage to defend attacks with his stamina and pace. Also , Arda rarely got to play for so long under carlo , he needs little bit time to adapt to being offensive and defensive whenever needed. Most of the time , he was subbed on when a spark of creativity was needed and he just contributed to the offensive part. Now that he is being made to play regularly , his lack of defensive instinct can be starkly noticed now.

I think one less talking point after this match would be about midfielder. Apparently we don't need a new one that urgent. Of course discussion may come back when Real will lose, but for now team is secure. Hope Arda can play even better, with regular appearance and trust from coach.

Let me remind you , one of the main reasons liverpool lost a ucl final was because of trent's defending. To be fair , the midfield gave too much time and space for valverde to provide a nice pass but trent had vini in his line of sight and should have moved with him , instead he just watched the ball going through , attempting to make a late recovery. Trent overall is not a defensive player , he is mainly known for creating attacks from the flank. Therefore , he doesnt really have that much ability to defend well. Hence , his defending isnt really a myth.
