The players’ current Collective Bargaining Agreement expires at the end of next season. The players have to negotiate a new one with the owners. It’s widely expected to be contentious and nasty.

Owners are likely to push for a salary cap (lots of fans are in favor of this, like myself, to have more parity across the league). Players don’t like this.

Players are likely to push for a salary floor (likewise, a lot of fans like this for parity too). Owners like those of the A’s and Pittsburgh don’t like this.

Then a bunch more considerations as well. Both sides have indicated a willingness to delay the start of the 2027 season over this, which has happened before.

The ‘94-‘95 lockout lasted almost a year and resulted in a cancelled World Series.

It’s unknown if this will be that bad or anywhere close to it, but lots of people are bracing to miss some games over this.

I doubt it the rich teams don’t want a salary cap it gives them a advantage

Our last home series against a divisional opponent is July 24th? Wtf is that?

u/jedlucid 1d ago

the balanced schedule is an idea no one likes but the owners.

7

u/kelsey11 1d ago

How do the owners even like this? How is Henry ok with not having the Yankees come to town in September (or even fucking August)?

1

u/jedlucid 1d ago

the big market teams don’t really benefit for it but the pirates want every chance to have stars from every team play there.

5

u/kelsey11 1d ago

I guess I’m old fashioned, but I’d rather have divisional rivalries in key spots of the season than two months of randos.

4

u/jedlucid 1d ago

no. literally everyone but the owners hates this. they did this in hockey and basketball too. it’s awful.

u/Mukarsis 1d ago

Hey, who here doesn't want to end the season with a 3 game series against noted historical rival...the Chicago Cubs?

Jesus Christ, what even is that August and September home schedule?

1

u/Munro_McLaren 1d ago

They play the Rays in late September.

2

u/Cheese_burger86 1d ago

But they’re away for that series

0

u/Munro_McLaren 1d ago

Ohh. Right. My dad and I are looking to watch a Patriots game and a Red Sox game in September, but I hate the teams they’re playing in September.

u/Doughnuts3001 1d ago

Finally we don't gave to wait 2 months to play the Yankees

8

u/CDudgie 1d ago

Only play them one series after the Allstar break. Very converse to the last 2 years.

9 game road trip heading into the ASB - No home games for 16 days. Wild.

2

u/TheHistorian2 21h ago

Best spot on the calendar to have the longest (including west coast) road trip of the season.

No Yankees/Sox after August 30th? Seems weird from a ratings / playoff race standpoint.

Off day on my birthday. Booooooooo.

u/pastrknack 50 1d ago

Me too :(

Granted my birthday is January 26th

1

u/squirtles_urethra 1d ago

Welcome back, Kobe Bryant

1

u/MissMarionMac 1d ago

Mine is in April, and given the number of off days early in the season, if it’s a weekday it’s usually 50/50.

Reds, Astros, Padres, Brewers, Cards, Twins, Tigers, Yankees, Orioles, Blue Jays, Astros, Tigers, Rays, Phillies, Braves, Royals. We're at Memorial day by then. Hit the division again early June. How many of those are playoff teams or could be playoff teams next year?

u/Kakali4 Fenway Footlong 23h ago

Might have to travel to Cincinnati to see the reds opening day. I’ve heard great things about it

4

u/DIECASTCHARV 22h ago

How do you make a schedule where Boston hosts ZERO division games at Fenway after July!? Just dump a bunch of meaningless matchups in there.. Two months vs the As, White Sox, Angels, DBacks etc is such a buzz kill

3

u/Teh_One_Who_Knocks 1d ago

Sure would be nice if they would be coming to Coors on a weekend series instead of during the week. It was the same exact way last year, a Mon-Wed series.

3

u/Judic22 22 1d ago

If you have the ability to come to PNC, definitely do. It’s well worth the trip. I’m a transplant from MA to Pittsburgh and it’s easily top 3 parks for me (been to 13).

3

u/pastrknack 50 1d ago

No Wrigley field is a bummer

3

u/Swarley133 1d ago

What a terrible schedule. A single series vs the Yankees in the second half of the season? Just four series vs divisional opponents in the final two months?

3

u/Take-it-like-a-Taker 23h ago

Yea this schedule sucks.

Three mini trips to the west coast? Okay, at least there is a travel day off after two of them…

The one mini west coast trip without a travel day afterwards is 3 games in Seattle, 3 games in Colorado, then our final FOUR home games versus the Yankees - in June…

16 days without a home game ahead of the all-star break… yeesh.

2

u/Accomplished-Buy4306 1d ago

When do we expect single game home tickets to go on sale?

3

u/Mahog11636FM 1d ago

End of December during Winter Weekend and early January for the public.

2

u/Physical-Tailor-2545 1d ago

we might get the loudest boos ever on Machado next opening day

2

u/xiii-Dex 22h ago

All three west-coast trips are in consecutive road trips. That's going to be a brutal 6 weeks.

1

u/funmaster320 6h ago

And only 2 games in Seattle- weird.

1

u/rswdw 1d ago

Ugh all I asked for was a game at Fenway over my birthday but that seems too much to ask.

1

u/wherewasabefroman 1d ago

It is if your birthday is in February

1

u/Munro_McLaren 1d ago

Yep. For me it is. Lol.

1

u/humblestworker 1d ago

Took me a while to figure out why we had a doubleheader against each other.

1

u/chincurtis3 1d ago

Can someone explain why we have a scheduled doubleheader against Seattle in june ??????????

1

u/humblestworker 1d ago

I think it’s Juneteenth

Edit: I am wrong. Looks like a World Cup match on that day.

1

u/chincurtis3 1d ago

While that’s true, other teams have games on Juneteenth, so I still don’t understand

3

u/jaxx2009 1d ago

Seattle's stadium shares a parking lot with the football stadium that will be hosting a World Cup match. They can't accommodate both events so there is a scheduled doubleheader the next day.

1

u/jedlucid 1d ago

124-38

1

u/duckoutofhere32 1d ago

Aww man only 17 Thursday games

1

u/Danethecook89 23h ago

As a Cincinnati resident, I am stoked to start the season here. Definitely going to have tickets for opening day

1

u/Opening-Witness1785 22h ago

Only 5 road trips in the second half, compared to 9 in the first half. That seems to be in our favor!

1

u/ShrimpNGrits14 22h ago

Ugh, there are definitely things about this schedule not to like, but I’m going to look at the positives.

As a Sox fan that wants to visit every park, seeing Opening Day in Cincinnati definitely has my attention.

A weekend in Seattle (T-Mobile Park) immediately followed by a series in Colorado (Coors Field) will definitely be on my calendar. And a weekend series at PNC Park will also be really cool.

1

u/TheHistorian2 20h ago

I always look at the west coast trips first. The long one before ASB is good. But the other two being so close to that is tough.

Also a lot of interleague to open the season.

u/jaboi2110 Long Live the Roman Empire 14h ago

Hopefully I’ll be going to one of the games in LA vs the Dodgers next summer, it would be my first time in LA

1

u/TheChrisPhoenix 13h ago

End the season against the Cubs? God MLB hates us.

1

u/Logical_Nectarine_40 8h ago

Nice! Weekend series in ATL.

1

u/NoDrama9412 5h ago

Idk what's worse---this schedule, or how absolutely cursed some of those hotdogs look.
