anime/manga Respect Father [Fullmetal Alchemist]

Father is the first homunculus, created by an alchemist from Xerxes with Hoenheim's blood, hundreds of years before the beginning of the series. He fools the king of Xerxes into making a nation-wide transmutation circle with the promise of immortality. Next, he purposefully misinforms them, causing Hoenheim and himself to each receive half of the nation's souls.. At this stage, Father should have had 536,329 souls within him, the same as Hoenheim.

Father then left, and taught alchemy to the ancient Amestrians. He planted himself under the ground and built the nation around him, planning eventually to sacrifice every person in it. He also inserted himself as a buffer between alchemists and their source of power so alchemy could not be used against him.

Container form

When you notice an insect on the ground, do you stop to consider it a fool?

  • Fixes Edward and Alphonse: Manga

Evolved form

Did you honestly believe you're the only one capable of evolving?

After having his container (the body that resembles Hoenheim) damaged, it is revealed that he no longer needs it.

  • Absorbs a thrown kunai, massively increases it's size, and fires it back: Manga

God form

I can create a sun right in the palm of my hand. Shall I turn it's flame loose in here?

After his nationwide transmutation circle activates giving him energy from almost all the humans in Amestris, he pulls God out of the sky. He now has over 50 million souls within him.

  • Turns off alchemy with a finger tap: Manga

  • Makes a large explosion, piercing all the way up past ground level: Manga

    • This was left out of the anime. The hole is instead partially caused by May Chang and the surface is pierced by an energy ball deflected by Hoenheim.
  • Creates nuclear fusion in his hand: Manga

Hoenheim activates his reverse circle, and Father loses the souls of Amestris. He now deems it too risky to use nuclear fusion.

If you take the "equivalent exchange" which is the theme of FMA seriously, you will realize his statement "I can create a sun right in the palm of my hand. Shall I turn it's flame loose in here?" is an outright bluff. Even father with 500million souls is still not enough to exchange for anything close enough to the sun. The sun is 333,000x heavier than earth in terms of earth.

Consider that the earth can hold a maximum of 10billion population, father will need 3.3 quadrillion souls (or simply 3,300 trillion souls) to have a chance in creating anything near enough for the sun.

Did you see the size of the sun he created though? I'm pretty sure he could create a small star rather than an actual star.

Well sneaky and I have already established that Hoenhelm has busted his lie by stating that it's a nuclear fusion(actually it's fission) instead of the sun.

If we're talking about creating a mini sun, we have been doing it in researches since like, 2000. And they are a hell lot hotter than the sun. Like, 200 times hotter. A mini sun at that size is not dangerous at all.

A mini sun at that size is not dangerous at all.

Depends on the Verse I guess.

Don Slime in the Toriko manga created a small star roughly about the size of a persons body, which went supernova 'with enough power to wipe out something as puny as this Earth'.

Toriko is a pure shounen manga, the author just dropped everything in it without thinking. I won't expect any standards and critical thinking is put into the science in it.

FMA however, is one of the most sophisticated manga this century. Everything in it has gone through a lot of thoughts and research, it's so well constructed, even if you attempt to dissect it with logic it doesn't fall apart (like this mini sun argument).

Here's a quick little quiz for you: what's the surface temperature of the sun?

Around 5,500 degrees, right?

Yup! And what would happen if you put a piece of rock 20 meters away from the sun? (assuming gravity doesn't pull it into the sun)

Presumably the rock would melt / be vaporized instantly?

Correct! ^

So, assuming what father was holding in his hand is the sun not a plasma of nuclear fission/fusion that is 5,500 degrees, what would actually happen to the ground he is standing on?

You don't think it's possible he's containing the energy of the sun he's holding? After all, if he can create it he can presumably manipulate it in some way too. Didn't he note it would be dangerous if he unleashed after being weakened?

yes, certainly implies he didn't let it burn anything yet
