How many feats in each category do you think is ideal?

That depends on how consistent, clear and complex the characters feats are.

Something like the Enterprise D from Star Trek would need a massive number of feats to properly show what it's main deflector is capable of. This is due to the fact it is very inconsistent and it can be used for quite a lot of tasks.

On the other hand, something like chunk of iron moving at 5 kps only needs three feats to describe it pretty much perfectly. Because it's feats are clear, consistent and it only dose one thing.

Here's a feat evaluation question.

Spike from Cowboy Bebop is able to go head on with Vicious in close quarters with no melee weapon and even either stalemate or get a slight advantage. Vicious is able to block Spike's bullets with his sword, meaning that Vicious is likely a bullet timer. Would that also mean that Spike is a bullet timer?

3

u/Maggruber Oct 22 '16

Via powerscaling, likely so. Though does Spike normally operate at that level? No feats within that range?

I typically avoid this reasoning as practically any antifeat can prove the contrary.

Though I have to ask, was Vicious deflecting the bullets after they fired or was he lining up the blade with each bullet's trajectory right before they were fired? Because it can be hard to tell the difference.

Making a Wukong RT, and so far this is the only image I can find of Sun Wukong that is actually from the time period. I was considering just finding an image that more or less fit the style of the time like this, (even if it's not geniune), or say fuck it and find some super badass Deviantart depiction of him that I hope isn't actually from some moba.

Thoughts? What's more important, having a genuine depiction of the character as they were intended to look, or something that looks good and memorable?

u/LambentEnigma ⭐ Short 'n' Sweet 2018 Oct 23 '16

I would say try to go with a genuine source.

1

u/8fenristhewolf8 ⭐⭐ RT of the Year 2016 Oct 23 '16

I like going with the images that are indicative of the genuine source. I think your first two are both really good.

1

u/Parysian Oct 23 '16

My only problem problem is the first is so goddam ugly.

3

u/8fenristhewolf8 ⭐⭐ RT of the Year 2016 Oct 23 '16

Haha. I kind of like it. Sort of gives it a sense of age, or history that adds to the mythic qualities of the character.

I have some gifs saved on my computer that are one pixel too wide or too tall. What's the easiest way to crop them to the right size? I'd rather not have to download any new software to do it.

2

u/KarlMrax Oct 24 '16

Why is being slightly larger a problem?

If you have gifcam,

Click on the down arrow thing next to "Rec"

"Open" and select the gif in question

Edit then right click on the thing that pops up.

Select "keybord inputs"

You should then see a "Resize width x height" option which should let you accomplish what you are after.

2

u/LambentEnigma ⭐ Short 'n' Sweet 2018 Oct 24 '16

Thank you! I am using Gifcam, and while I was recording some gifs, I set the size slightly too wide or tall, which made the gifs have a distracting line of pixels on one side.

3

u/KarlMrax Oct 25 '16

Oh also, a way to stop this from happening in the first place is to turn on the keyboard mouse in the "ease of access center" under "make the mouse easier to use".

This lets you turn the number pad into a way to move the mouse a single pixel at a time which makes fine adjustment of the boarders easier.

Note: 5 on the number pad is left click and 0 is toggle holding left click.

Requesting Sin from Final Fantasy X.

2

u/bubsy420blazeit Oct 23 '16

hey, I have two requests for respect threads. both of them I tried to do but decided not to because I'm lazy.

Mr. Game and Watch

the Angry Video Game Nerd (not sure if the AVGN counts as a meme/circlejerk character tho)

3

u/That_guy_why Oct 23 '16

Added Mr. Game and Watch.

There actually already is an AVGN Respect Thread. You can still request for it to be updated if you feel that the current RT is not up to par for whatever reason. And it's not too uncommon for internet characters like him to get RTs. JonTron and Danny Sexbang also have RTs for example.

2

u/That_guy_why Oct 22 '16

So here's an idea I've been brewing in my head. Has anyone considered doing an RT for generic grunts in a series? For example, if I were to make an RT, and one of my feats was "X character easily beats Generic Grunt in Hand to hand combat", it doesn't really seem all that impressive. If it was known that grunts were genuinely supposed to be skilled combatants, and maybe even had a feat or two showcasing that, it makes the original feat more impressive and accurate.

In essence, I think RTs of this nature could be helpful to properly gauge characters in a series. On the other hand, I'd imagine you'd be hard-pressed to find enough feats (other than durability feats lol). There's probably other problems that makes this a horrible idea that I'm not thinking of at the moment. Honestly just kinda rambling here.

3

u/LambentEnigma ⭐ Short 'n' Sweet 2018 Oct 23 '16

I've considered doing a RT for the commando droids from Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Those things are surprisingly competent for grunts.

2

u/TheKjell 🕷 Master Weaver 🕷 Oct 22 '16

While feats are always nice I always just assume a generic person is just a normal human and have basic training if the grunt is in the military or similar.

2

u/Maggruber Oct 22 '16

Grunt RT is definitely on the list of things I need to make at some point. Problem is there is a great degree of variance between one or the other. Some Grunts have the minds of children and are barely stronger than humans, and then you have guys like Stolt that can tank blows from Elites all day and has even killed a Spartan.

1

u/That_guy_why Oct 23 '16

That's a pretty good point actually. Different grunts can have wildly different skills and physicals. Also Stolt sounds like just deserves his own RT tbh.

1

u/Maggruber Oct 23 '16

He only has one appearance though, so not a lot to go on unfortunately.

2

u/That_guy_why Oct 23 '16

So I just got a really solid feat for Brook from One Piece, and I'm not sure how to interpret it. Here, Brook cuts Vegapunk's Dragon. Now, this dragon is smaller, quicker, and harder than earlier dragons. Said Earlier Dragon was tough enough that Zoro struggled to cut it. (though he later managed it anyways)

So at first it seems simple. Presumably Serious Brook is a fair bit stronger than a Casual Zoro. But then a wrench is thrown in the works because of all that stuff Zoro went through in Alabasta. Y'know the stuff about him discovering how to cut steel and "a blade that can cut nothing can cut anything" and becoming a better swordsman etc. etc. So maybe this is a Sword Skill feat for Brook instead. I suppose the majority of my confusion is how that moment went down for Zoro. Is Zoro now just in "Able to cut steel mode" when he fights his opponents? Is there any reason for him not to when fighting a dragon? If he is, does that mean he has to put more strength into his attack to cut things more durable than steel?

Can I safely say Brook is skilled enough to cut steel? Can I say Srs Brook is stronger than Chill Zoro? Can I say both? I almost want to drop the feat but I'm starting Dressrosa and so far this is possibly Brook's best strength feat other than "Carries person" and "Blocks attack from Zeo who is at least 20x stronger than average human due to steroids and has maybe one strength feat of his own that I probably missed somewhere."

u/LambentEnigma ⭐ Short 'n' Sweet 2018 Oct 24 '16

Oh, cool, my RT for Talzin is being featured! First time that's happened to me.

1

u/Panory Oct 25 '16

Feat evaluation: Would you call this supersonic? If it matters, that wouldn't be too unusual for characters in 666 Satan.

1

u/MoSBanapple Oct 26 '16

Are you basing it on the circles in the fourth panel being sonic booms, indicating supersonic? If so, I don't think they are, since there are two circles (I'd imagine a sonic boom would only produce the effect a single time, though I don't know the science or specifics behind one).

1

u/Panory Oct 26 '16

Pretty much, since I don't know what else they'd be, the setting has other supersonic speed feats, and his attacks are fast enough to explicitly be FTE.
