Orson Kasloff was one of the foremost analytical chemists in the world, but he was bitter over his lack of wealth. He decided to use his scientific genius to become a criminal but it quickly became apparent that he lacked the skills required. Deciding to recruit some allies, Kasloff built a suit of made from Super-Asbestos in order to challenge the Human Torch, earning him respect amongst the criminal underworld.

Kasloff later got cancer and died. That’s probably unrelated.

Equipment

• Asbestos Man’s suit is made from his personal asbestos formula, called Super-Asbestos. His net is made of nitrogen strands covered in a thin skin, and his shield is iron

• The suit is bulletproof as well as fireproof

• The net can catch fireballs and return them as explosive blasts. The handle is iron and can be melted

• Asbestos Man’s shield is capable of deflecting the Human Torch’s flames

• Invented a liquid solvent that can easily melt iron and steel. He carries flasks of it when he’s in costume

• Carries a simple electromagnet

• Defeats the Human Torch

• Shrugs off a falling light fixture

• Sends a strongly-worded letter to the Human Torch. The letter is also asbestos
