Looking for a place to get a safety done

Hi all!

Purchased a used bike, but having a hard time find a decent place to do a safety inspection.

I searched the group and didn't find any recent posts on the subject.

Anybody got any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Try Richmond Motorsports, they have a walk in day on Saturday from what I recall.

Saw on Ottawa Motorcycle group about Speedy in Orleans being reasonably priced and same day. Check with Canadian Tire. Other than that. Goodtime Centre, Richmond, Wheelsport.

For anyone wondering, under the old Ontario vehicle safety inspection program every vehicle inspection station that was certified to inspect cars could also inspect motorcycles.

Under the new Drive On vehicle safety inspection program, you have to apply to be a motorcycle inspection center IN ADDITION to being a car inspection center. It's a separate application and comes at an additional cost.

So most places that used to inspect motorcycles (all of them) have chosen not to pay the additional cost to become a motorcycle inspection center or were unaware that it was a separate application.

So the end result is that we have WAY LESS motorcycle safety inspection centers in Ontario.

Tell me about it... it's been hell trying to find a place that can do it before mid-June.

Thankfully I found something

Richmond Motorsports, Len is a great guy. I heard they were waiting on some equipment from the province a few weeks ago but I would think they are up and running now.

When I called, the receptionist laughed and said I'd be waiting a while β€” she wouldn't tell me how long, only that there were 50 people on the list.

I would recommend the same guy that all my buddies and I go to. Here's great; he owned a big shop for years but now just works out of his garage

Steve Logan (613) 791-3565

It is an excellent price and does excellent work!

And he's capable of issuing provincial vehicle safeties?

Yes sir, Fully licensed!

Hey man, don't apologize!

He actually pointed me in the right direction and I managed to find a place to inspect my bike β€” so I am very grateful for you, brother.

Call the Canadian Tire in Bank Street in Leitrim!

I got an appointment the same week, and cost me like $230 all-in.

In an out in an hour.

They appear to be the only CT in the Ottawa area who still do bikes anymore

Ouch. $230!!!!!!!!!!!! Gone are the $120ish days?

Isn't the Orleans one 180 all in?

Darn!

It's this new inspection system... it isn't very bike friendly

I tried calling everywhere but couldn't find anyone available to do it before my trip permit expired. I called Ryno Motors in Almonte and they will do it same day.

Avoid them, they damaged a friends bike and took zero responsibility for it. Shop is less than what you'd expect in 2025, dirty, cluttered, "stuff" everywhere and no process for really organizing things beyond piles of papers

I did mine at canadian tire on Coventry

u/AnyCrab5277 May 05 '25

They don't do motorcycles. Thanks though!

Weird... I got my motorcycle inspected there in September. Although, there was only 1 guy who was able to do them, and he only worked on weekdays. Maybe that guy doesn't work there anymore.

Yeah... Maybe he moved to the CT in Letrim, they seem to be the only CT within 50km. who do bikes

Thanks to everyone for their suggestion!

I got my bike done yesterday at the Canadian Tire in Leitrim.

They're the only CT in Ottawa that still do bikes β€” and I called them all.

Called on Tuesday and got an appointment on Thursday.

Kanata Honda does it, but they're booking for mid-June, and Richmond Motorsports were so backed up they wouldn't even give me a timeframe.

How much did it cost? I just got mine done at Motorsports World and it was $360. Much higher than the $75 I paid last time I got a bike safetied (10 years ago).Β

$230 all-in. In and out in less than an hour.

Silverstar Automotive Baseline & Moodie thereabouts.

$189 tax-in

Used them for 3 previous safeties. I'm always happy.

Going again this week for my boys new bike.

How much did they actually charge you I'm curious because when we did ours it failed so we paid a certain amount and then when we went back with the repair done we had to pay another 12 bucks or something like that for the certificate, ended up being like 205 or something like that I didn't really understand and I didn't really care it was still cheapest & most convenient - but just curious to know how much you ended up paying.
