Steve Miller is 81 years old and should probably be taking it easy instead of touring anyway..

What a joker. He should just take the money and run.

Take the money and run makes zero sense. They build up this cop that never let's his quarry escape, then in the next line, they escape, and that's the last anyone hears of them.

If musicians still enjoy touring and fans are still showing up then keep doing it for as long as you want to.

Saw him last summer he was engaging, had great energy, looked and sounded great. He was Rockn Me

He always puts on a great show. Clearly he's going to do as he pleases regardless of what some reddit user thinks lol.

“The combination of extreme heat, unpredictable flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes and massive forest fires make these risks for you our audience, the band and the crew unacceptable. So...
You can blame it on the weather... The tour is cancelled.
Don't know where, don't know when... We hope to see you all again.”
Weather expert here. I can tell you it’s never going to get better than this in our lifetime — more extreme weather is here to stay for a while — so highly doubt we’ll see Steve Miller, unless this is BS.

His quote sounds like something an old person who watches way too much cable news would say.

The Chrissie Hynde quote is the real story. She isn’t wrong. I mean, the biz is unscrupulous and will put on shows as long as people buy tickets. That’s not exactly a plan tho.

Ahh, you’re right. I admit I overlooked this — yes outdoor concerts, even ignoring the potential of extreme weather, definitely are tricky in this regard. I never liked going to outdoor amphitheaters because of the heat, poorer sound quality, and chance of rain. You buy those tickets months in advance. Curious if amphitheaters are closing, less popular?

I’m like you, I don’t go anymore. From what I hear, these days the industry makes its money from concessions, merchandise, and parking. That’s why the big outdoor venues are such good business.

I know shit is fucked. But sounds like a cop out

u/NegativeSuspect Jul 17 '25
Yeah. This is a terrible excuse. I mean might as well cancel tour dates because of the risk of people dying from car accidents on the way to the concert.

What would his motivation be?

u/Prize_Major6183 Jul 17 '25
Too old to play all those dates after all. Or something similar.
Events didnt sell like they expected.
Or maybe he believes this

I read an interview with him from several years back and he expressed some genuine concern for the environment, as well as more understanding of the subject than most people who aren't scientists.

He’s was supposed to play the Minnesota state fair in a little over a month. I bought tickets to it a little over a week ago, safe estimate was about 85% of the tickets were still left.
I’m going with he wasn’t drawing anyone to the shows.

I met him in Springfield Missouri a few years ago after a 16 year relationship ended. I was 31 and he was at the 2nd bar I had ever been to. He told me being a musician was all he knew in life and seemed to regret that being his only choice. He told me to keep on rocking and then left to smoke a joint before hitting the tour bus again.

Can I call out of work for the foreseeable future due to the earth not being safe?

Sounds like a typical senior who won’t leave the house because they are calling for random flurries over a three day period.

Then get your olde ass in the studio and keep on a rocking me, maybe

In other words, ticket sales are slow for a band starring an 80-year-old who was relevant 45 years ago.

Gonna be honest, I immediately thought to myself “what is Stephen Miller up to now?”

Can we address the elephant in the room here? Who knew Steve Miller was even still around?

u/AzulMage2020 Jul 17 '25
He is an octegenerian. Is it supposed to get any safer the longer he waits?

u/Rabid-kumquat Jul 17 '25
He was boring in the 70s, saw him opening for the Dead 80s or 90s and he quickly learned to get his hits out of the way because most of the crowd was still out in the parking lot.
