Big old jet airliner, don’t carry me too far away 🎸

Steve Miller is 81 years old and should probably be taking it easy instead of touring anyway..

What a joker. He should just take the money and run.

Clap clap clap clap clap

Or fly like an eagle to a safer place.

Take the money and run makes zero sense. They build up this cop that never let's his quarry escape, then in the next line, they escape, and that's the last anyone hears of them.

Sounds like you need to watch some old cops and robbers movies to get it

idk I saw him last year and he was great. played a hell of a show.

If musicians still enjoy touring and fans are still showing up then keep doing it for as long as you want to.

Saw him last summer he was engaging, had great energy, looked and sounded great. He was Rockn Me

He always puts on a great show. Clearly he's going to do as he pleases regardless of what some reddit user thinks lol.

“The combination of extreme heat, unpredictable flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes and massive forest fires make these risks for you our audience, the band and the crew unacceptable. So...

You can blame it on the weather... The tour is cancelled.

Don't know where, don't know when... We hope to see you all again.”

Weather expert here. I can tell you it’s never going to get better than this in our lifetime — more extreme weather is here to stay for a while — so highly doubt we’ll see Steve Miller, unless this is BS.

His quote sounds like something an old person who watches way too much cable news would say.

11

u/corneliusduff Jul 17 '25

Not to mention the cutting of funds for weather monitoring services.

The Chrissie Hynde quote is the real story. She isn’t wrong. I mean, the biz is unscrupulous and will put on shows as long as people buy tickets. That’s not exactly a plan tho.

2

u/ooone-orkye Jul 17 '25

Ahh, you’re right. I admit I overlooked this — yes outdoor concerts, even ignoring the potential of extreme weather, definitely are tricky in this regard. I never liked going to outdoor amphitheaters because of the heat, poorer sound quality, and chance of rain. You buy those tickets months in advance. Curious if amphitheaters are closing, less popular?

I’m like you, I don’t go anymore. From what I hear, these days the industry makes its money from concessions, merchandise, and parking. That’s why the big outdoor venues are such good business.

No Philadelphia, Atlanta, LA…

5

u/Affectionate_Reply78 Jul 17 '25

Or warm Northern California girls

11

u/Vivid_Blacksmith_619 Jul 17 '25

Legal excuse to cancel tour without being sued ?

21

u/Prize_Major6183 Jul 17 '25

I know shit is fucked. But sounds like a cop out

16

u/NegativeSuspect Jul 17 '25

Yeah. This is a terrible excuse. I mean might as well cancel tour dates because of the risk of people dying from car accidents on the way to the concert.

He’s 81 years old

2

u/Hank_Henry_Hill Jul 17 '25

What would his motivation be?

14

u/Prize_Major6183 Jul 17 '25

Too old to play all those dates after all. Or something similar.

Events didnt sell like they expected.

Or maybe he believes this

2

u/TFFPrisoner Jul 17 '25

I read an interview with him from several years back and he expressed some genuine concern for the environment, as well as more understanding of the subject than most people who aren't scientists.

1

u/Kirillkirillkirlll Jul 21 '25

He’s was supposed to play the Minnesota state fair in a little over a month. I bought tickets to it a little over a week ago, safe estimate was about 85% of the tickets were still left.

I’m going with he wasn’t drawing anyone to the shows.

3

u/Brilliant_Laugh8962 Jul 17 '25

I met him in Springfield Missouri a few years ago after a 16 year relationship ended. I was 31 and he was at the 2nd bar I had ever been to. He told me being a musician was all he knew in life and seemed to regret that being his only choice. He told me to keep on rocking and then left to smoke a joint before hitting the tour bus again.

3

u/suhayla Jul 17 '25

I thought this was an Onion article about Stephen Miller and now I’m disappointed

2

u/tmolesky Jul 17 '25

I don’t blame him.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

so he's not taking the money and running. Because he already has a lot of money.

3

u/LineImpossible3958 Jul 17 '25

The jungle love finally drove him mad and made him crazy 🥁

-1

u/suhayla Jul 17 '25

When did Steve Miller get malaria?

3

u/sinncab6 Jul 17 '25

Is the weather inside an Indian casino really that bad?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 20 '25

*insert rain dance joke here*

3

u/King_of_da_Castle Jul 17 '25

So in fact he will not keep on rocking you baby.

2

u/Signal_Membership268 Jul 17 '25

Let’s be honest, is it ever really safe????

1

u/Current-Brain-1983 Jul 17 '25

Bet you weren't ready for that...

1

u/Moist-Education5177 Jul 18 '25

Can I call out of work for the foreseeable future due to the earth not being safe?

1

u/Far-Lingonberry-256 Jul 18 '25

What about the moon? Could he tour the Moon?

1

u/Lumberguruji Jul 19 '25

He takes it! The winner Lefty Mudersbach.

1

u/pantheraus Jul 19 '25

He's irrelevant, cmon

1

u/SageObserver Jul 19 '25

Sounds like a typical senior who won’t leave the house because they are calling for random flurries over a three day period.

1

u/Suspicious-Bite1349 Jul 19 '25

Then get your olde ass in the studio and keep on a rocking me, maybe

1

u/Regular-Run419 Jul 20 '25

It’s just not safe for him

1

u/ElevatorNo4425 Jul 21 '25

He don’t want to get caught up in any of that funky shit

1

u/texasgambler58 Jul 21 '25

In other words, ticket sales are slow for a band starring an 80-year-old who was relevant 45 years ago.

1

u/TheAmazingCrisco Jul 21 '25

Might it actually be that tickets weren’t selling?

2

u/ecplectico Jul 17 '25

He can play at the Sweetwater until things calm down.

1

u/tafkat Jul 17 '25

Joe just freed up a lot of time to play with the Wooten Brothers.

1

u/greycatdaddy Jul 17 '25

Is he at least living in the USA?

1

u/smolle9999 Jul 17 '25

Didn't he sell enough tickets?

1

u/Neb-Scrier Jul 17 '25

Gonna be honest, I immediately thought to myself “what is Stephen Miller up to now?”

-4

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

Can we address the elephant in the room here? Who knew Steve Miller was even still around?

0

u/AzulMage2020 Jul 17 '25

He is an octegenerian. Is it supposed to get any safer the longer he waits?

0

u/Rabid-kumquat Jul 17 '25

He was boring in the 70s, saw him opening for the Dead 80s or 90s and he quickly learned to get his hits out of the way because most of the crowd was still out in the parking lot.
