Discussion This game looks massive. Has anyone heard of it?

Bridgebourn en Steam

Today I just discovered this game at the Steam event, and it doesn’t look too ambitious? What surprises me the most is the map, because it looks massive.

Does anyone know this game or has been able to try it? Honestly, I don't like the visual aspect at all, but everything else really catches my attention.

It's playable according to my friends steam deck! Just trying to get my hands on my own so I can officially get that "steam deck verified" badge

Oh boy! I cant wait for release to purchase my copy then! Steam deck is now my only gaming outlet with my newborn, and your game looks fantastic. The artstyle really does it for me

I love the art style! Showed the trailer to my wife and we got excited when we saw it has couch co-op. I'll definitely give the demo a try, this looks right up my alley.

Just wanted to say that this game looks really cool, actually. Kinda reminds me of Runescape.

Thanks, I grew up playing runescape so that probably influenced me a bit

It has split screen coop, did you considered adding online coop?

Just couch co-op, but with Steam Remote Play, its essentially online

In the beginning i tried supporting client/server, but it was too much scope for just me developing

I've never had good luck with remote play working well.  But it's been a few years since I've tried it

Hey! Not necessarily constructive criticism, but a development question. Sorry for the formatting of the question, I’m not quite sure how to ask. When something takes 9+ years, how do you determine what to go back and change? Does better technology / engines for graphics or personally growth as a developer force you to double back to older parts of the project to update them?

For me its been 95% personal growth. The games been through several art reworks. Just recently i redid the lighting system because i learned more about shaders and GPUs.

5% utilizing new tech (new libraries, programming features). When java comes out with its vector API, i will use its SIMD functionality to speed up parts of the game

Ohhh. Nice! One question, as I mentioned in my post the map looks extremely large, but what worries me is if it is filled with content? Because there are many open-world games that are gigantic but don’t actually offer much for entertainment.

And another question, how is the variety of enemies? Is it good? Will there be some sort of bestiary?

I'm taking an approach similar to Final Fantasy 12 for the map. Cobweb of interconnecting maps rather than one giant skyrim-like area. The player still has freedom to wander, but the volume of space for me to develop is much less. My favorite thing to do in games is to explore so this is a huge priority for me!

The demo has 11 enemy types (not including random elite variations) 4 bosses, and a bestiary. There'll be way more enemies and bosses in the final release.

Thats awsome! Thanks for replying. :D

One last question, will there be NPCs we can talk to?

9

u/Bamboo-Bandit 3d ago

Yes, you have a party that you can talk to. They chime in every now and then on your journey. You can also talk to villagers, do quests, etc.

Yeah, right, what a coincidence...

Anyway, what does "non-linear adventure" pertain here? An ability to choose where to go first and mix up the order of places to visit or a full blown branching narrative that branches, branches and branches the main story into many different endpoints?

u/Bamboo-Bandit 3d ago

It's the former! I need to reword that in the trailer better

More than the post itself it's the hive mind of "ohh cool, wishlisted", but it may very well be an organic reaction, who knows
