I love to buy games, I admit I have a huge backlog and keep an eye out for sales all the time. I play on PC and steam sales, CDKeys (now Loaded), Humble bundle & GOG literally own my wallet. Because I am so reckless I’m now inundated with choice.

I’m currently playing KCD1 and loving it but my mind wanders to other games, it can be because I’ve seen a short/ video about another game, because I’ve looked in my library, I’ve checked the sales etc.

I can’t play more than one game at a time because I feel disconnected when I return to a game I’ve been away from for a while so I have to finish it or restart once I return if I can’t resist the urge to start a different game.

The last game I finished was Baldur’s Gate 3 at the beginning of the year and I keep replaying it. I do truly love the game and it has plenty of replay value but I feel my attention could be on other games. I keep loading it up and keep starting a new save and trying to play it again because it has become ‘comfortable’ but I didn’t buy these other games to just sit in my library - I want to play them.

How do you lock down a game? How do you give it your focus without being tempted by others?

This doesn't mean "the neutral ending is great." I mean the game isn't vastly inferior to a good playthrough in terms of being able to roleplay.

Bonus points if roleplaying in this game doesn't amount to 99% making up your own head canon. Lord knows there's a lot of em.

Neutral playthroughs typically amount to "I'm good but too busy to help.", "I'm good, but give me money." or "I'm good but sarcasm."

With these strict guidelines, does anything make the cut?

In 2023, I started developing this game which is a tribute to classic role-playing games and franco-belgian comics. It was also an opportunity for me to learn how to draw using pencil and paper. It’s a solo dev experience, I tried to do all aspects of the game: programming, drawing, writing and so on.

Singleplayer games still remain popular despite the resurgence of multiplayer and live service games these days. However, let's be honest here, some of our beloved singleplayer games have features that we think shouldn't even be there in the first place.

For me, it's the always online requirement that are present in RPGs like Diablo 3, Anthem, etc. Those games could do just fine offline. I don't know why they're even allowed in the first place. And once the servers for those games disappear, that would make the games unplayable in the process.

A lot of channels yesterday posted gameplay previews/reviews from a 4 hour long demo provided by Bamdai in various recent events, and they had nothing but praises and positive experiences to share. Im a long time fan of monster taming RPGs and having a high quality game on the horizon that is not aimed at small kids is so exciting. Man i cant wait to play it.

Hey folks! Stumbled across this game on Steam, and I think it’s just a demo, but man, it really hooked me. It’s got that pixel art vibe and turn-based combat with RPG elements, so maybe not everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re into tactical battles like me, it’s a blast. The core mechanic where you level up your characters and chain their spells for epic combos to wipe out enemies? So satisfying.

Feels a bit like Into the Breach mixed with the combat vibes of HOMM 3 - you know, that kind of strategic goodness. Perfect for chilling on a cozy evening. Definitely give it a try!

For context I myself am a solo indie developer. I've been at this one project now for about 3-4 years, however upon wrapping up production I've been asking "How much should I sell this for?" As I don't want to sell it too cheap and be buried under the shovel ware. I'm also self aware to know that people don't want to just throw 30-50 dollars to a dev they never heard of. Personally I believe 5.99 is the sweet spot as I gets me just out of the shovel ware section but also doesn't make it a massive gamble to the consumers. But I would like to hear what you, the RPG gamers think about it.

I’ve really been enjoying digging back into the libraries of the Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable. I’d have to say that The World Ends With You and Trails in the Sky are the best in class for respective system.

What other games would folks consider top 5 on each system?

I’ve started SMT: Devil Survivor and nearing the end of Final Fantasy Tactics: WOTL, both fantastic in their own right, but what else should I add to my backlog?

This mostly comes up as a debate in mobile (gacha) games, though it does appear in more standard RPGs.

In the case of mobile games, some players consider the concept of event-exclusive characters such as summer (swimsuit) and Christmas (Santa costume) variants to fall neatly into "joke character" territory, while others say that's not necessarily the case and that some such characters can be considered powerhouses. Same goes with items such as equipment: there are so-called "joke items" either because of appearance or gameplay.

Case in point from experience: Summer Scathach-Skadi from Fate/Grand Order, despite looking out of place in general because she's a swimsuit version of an existing character, is not considered a "joke character". Yet, in the same game, we have Saber Gilles de Rais, a knight who fits well into the game's aesthetics and yet is considered an absolute joke by most players.

In Valkyrie Profile, you play as Lenneth Valkyrie as you journey their Midgar and collect dying souls of man to perpare for Ragnork. You meet plenty of souls in their most desperate moments, and see a wide array of the human connection in this dark fantasy setting. Very bleak but beautiful stories feels almost like a mini series told in an rpg

Obviously divinity 1&2 both being absolutely wonderful games I've also played og fallout, pillars of eternity, disco elysium, underrail a lil bit, and I can't think of what else lol.

I've often thought of trying pathfinder but I've heard it can be a big heavy on the reading. All these games can be. But maybe I'm wrong idk.

My choice would be Oda from One Piece but there's way too many awesome mangaka right now that would totally fit and I think its a shame we dont see many doing it now at the moment.

I feel as though over the years, more and more companies are heading towards online multiplayer games. I would like to know from other couch co-op or single player gamers. What would you like to see put into your style of games? Perhaps more content, or even something as simple as more installments to your favorite series. Personally I'm a big fan of Star wars knights of the old republic 2 sith lords.

Never played Greedfall. Considering picking it up or replaying Witcher 3. I never got through either of the expansions on Witcher 3 but did beat the main story as well as a lot of the side quests. Open to other RPG suggestions too. Not BG3, I love it but need a break from it and am looking for something else. Clair Obscur was cool but just didn't grab me which is weird because I love a good story which that seems to have, but I just couldn't get into the combat.

Semi-popular/known turn-based RPG game, macabre/horror 2D cartoon/anime style reminiscent of Gekidan Inu Curry. Known to be rather difficult for new players, requiring some tactical planning in the fights versus, say, Final Fantasy or Pokemon. Fights consist of 3 chibi kids on the left side of the screen against nightmare creatures on the right. Probably from 2015-2017 ish? I think it was pre-Covid, and wouldn't be surprised if it was like 10 years old now.

My exposure to the game comes from random livestreams, which I conveniently also don't remember who streamed it, though I've seen it mentioned and recommended in threads and conversations before. I thought the title was Witch's Curse or something, but apparently it isn't. Searched everywhere, even tried to get some buddies to help, but nothing comes up. Darkest Dungeon is sort of close.
