Hopefully he's not Robbie Deans mark II where he thinks the All Blacks should just be an extension of Canterbury.

I can tell you right now that he has about as different as a coaching philosophy from Deans as you can get.

Robbie had a gameplan and built the team around that, Razor looks at what he has available and builds a gameplan around accentuating their strengths.

He's coached quite different with the different teams he's had.

the bellichek model is by FAR the best model for coaches. but you have to be fucking GOOD to pull it off. far too many coaches are a 'I have this style, you need to fit into the mold' sort instead, but I get it. it's so much easier

Absolutely, it's also just the best way to boost your longevity because your ideas never really get found out. Your philosophy just evolves as new players come in that you have to adapt for.

The ABs under Hansen and then Foster seemed quite rigid in the ideas they put in place. You'd often see headlines about how they'd decided the team needs to play more like X whenever they had a tough few games. I think losing Wayne, and his infinite fountain of knowledge that makes it easier to adapt on the fly, made their planning a lot more rigid.

EXACTLY. thats a real astute call. obviously you want to have a primary style and strength, and try to impose your game on the opponent. but you also have to game plan and see what the opponent does well and be ready to neutralize that.

Id thought that it was stubbornness and hubris from hansen (to a small extent) and foster (to a huge extent) that they just... didn't really do that after like 2016ish. waynes eye absolutely could've been the thing that unlocked the ability to counter other teams strengths on the fly.

It's scary to think the vibes around the team have actually been a little bit sour for almost 7 years, dating back to that Lions tour.

Can't believe we've already witnessed Wayne officially retiring for years, coming back and immediately doing a miracle job on the Ferns and them retiring again and the whole time the ABs have looked a bit aimless.

Belichick without Brady before and after isn't too good tho.

I remember the SR final against the Blues a couple of years back and it was an absolute coaching masterclass. The Blues were the best team all year but Razor came up with a game plan for the final that completely nullified all of their strengths.

Do you mean last year, because it was last year.

He said as such in the presser too "you get what you get and you work from there".

An ABs coach with actual answers to questions. I haven't felt this excited about the ABs since 2017.

Considering he has O'Gara, Schmidt, Graham Henry and McDonald as his assistant coaches shouldn't be an issue Edit: joking have no idea who the coaches are

I’m going to fucking fume if he picks a back row of Grace, Blackadder and Christie.

So many other combinations would be better.
