Hello! So this is the third time I'm posting my game here, it's been fun to go back and see where it began to now. I've spent just under 6 months doing some polishing and basically getting the game looking and feeling nicer to play. I want to spend the next couple of weeks putting in mauls/drop goals and infringements/rules. Also fixing up some of the defensive lines that are just mirroring the attacking lines still.
Hope you enjoy seeing the progress and I'd love to hear any feedback you guys have, good or bad. It helped a ton last time I posted here!
This looks amazing! I've been hoping for a game like this for years!
This is me being pedantic, but the dashed lines (5m, 10m, etc.) should be longer dashes. The points that they intersect should make a solid plus that's roughly 5m x 5m. The dashes would then each be roughly 5m long along the pitch.
Like I say, I'm being pedantic, but I couldn't go without mentioning it.
Any plans for mobile? I don’t know how your controls work or if they’d be compatible, but this reminds me of RetroGoal and RetroBowl (though this looks more interesting to be fair)
Im not sure what engine you are using, but if you want to make it play on Linux (I would love this on a Steam Deck), feel free to DM me. It’s been a couple years since I worked on games, but Linux is my wheelhouse and I’d be more than happy to test/make minor bug fixes in my free time.
Also I am talking about validating Proton, not a native build as that is much more work.
Thank you pal! Very kind of you, and noted on the landing indicator. I will allow the player to customise it to a selected shape/colour/flashing speed. Thanks for pointing it out!
Another pedantic reply.... Ireland doesn't use the Irish Tricolour for rugby. They use a Harp on a green background. Though I'm not sure if the Harp would render well at that resolution!
Edit: actually the resolution is decent on this. Just there's a retro feel which makes me nostalgic for 8bit games
Apologies for using an inconsistent flag for Ireland, I simply put the counties flags as I’m ignorant as to what is covered under licensing. I will look further into it and try and include what I can to be more akin to realism. Cheers mate!
No worries - some are more sensitive to these things than others. But if it were me I'd be raging if I found out about something like that after pushing public release!
The reason the ignorance gets annoying is that there aren't really that many rugby teams to keep up with, so I never quite understand how people never notice this.
The reason for the flag difference is basically because the Irish team includes players from Northern Ireland. You cannot use the Republic of Ireland flag to represent people from Northern Ireland (a country in the UK, which Republic of Ireland is not).
It would be a bit like using the USA flag to represent North America.
I’m debating on whether early access is a good idea. Maybe once tournaments are in, I could release early access and bring season mode later. Cheers mate
Do you have permission to use the commentator sound clips?
Just because I wanna play your game one day, and I would hate it if all your work was for nothing cos you get a cease and desist as soon as BBC or ITV or whoever find out about it.
Like I'd rather it have no commentator clips at all, and still exist, than for it to include them but then the game gets taken down after I've bought it and so I can't play it anymore.
I mean this is like Sensible Rugby. And Sensible Soccer never had commentator clips. So it's not a necessary thing. It is a retro style game after all.
They’re just there as a demonstration to myself of where commentary moments will happen when I record my own. I wish I could get some sort of permission but the aim is to record my own. Cheers mate!
