That extra bit of polish really makes it look the business; you should be very proud with the progress. May I ask: what engine are you building this with?

I wonder would it be worth putting it on itch.io or somewhere similar to drum up some playtesting, feedback and a little hype for the thing?

Thanks mate! I think it’s good to spend a bit of time polishing before the game is even halfway done, other people would lose interest in seeing the same graphics over and over. I’m building it with gamemaker, which has been nothing but a dream to use.

My aim is to get the on pitch gameplay completed with mauls/drop goals and some rules in place, then put out a small demo with a couple of teams. Should be the next update I will post here. Thanks for the interest pal

Yeah, I imagine it's also nice just to feel a bit of reward & momentum solving aesthetics over code; rugby must surely have proved to be a real headache to replicate its laws & AI executing those laws?

Sounds good though re. timeline, I genuinely look forward to playing it!

Exactly mate, especially having nobody to answer to but myself, it’s important to reward yourself with some enjoyable tasks too haha. The AI has been years and years in the making really. I’ve had to come up with how it’s structured completely off my own back, because there is literally zero help online on this topic hah. So getting the AI to adhere to laws should be pretty straight forward as they all use the same shared logic.
