Discussion Okay, I've fully got WRWC fever. Making plans to potentially go to one or both of the games in York next weekend - & fully considering doing other games which still have tix available. Let's do this!

So as the title says, I've fully gotten Womens Rugby World Cup fever. The vibes are immaculate and I love the atmospheres so far. Plus, I think part of me regrets never getting a chance to go to any games here at the 2015 men's RWC, though the less said about that as a home fan the better 😅

Either way, next weekend in York looks good for me - it started off as an extension of a possible trip to Sheffield on Thursday for a gig, and now I'm just feeling a weekend of rugby in York, coupled with a wander round the National Railway Museum (because I'm a train nerd, so be rude not to really). The prospect of USA vs Australia on a Saturday night sounds amazing both from a competition and atmosphere standpoint, and I believe there's still tix available for both that game and Italy-SA on the Sunday.

If anyone else is planning on going - or wants to try and convince me to go to games in another city next weekend instead - let me know! Also if there's other games with tix available, so long as they aren't on the 6th September where I already have plans - pitch them to me. I'm excited 😁

(Also, I'll most likely be a neutral at any games I do go to - unless I somehow wangle an England ticket! - so I'm more than willing to adopt your team or be an honourary fan of your team for the day!)

I went to the Manchester double header this weekend, straight after leaving the ground I decided waiting till Ireland v New Zealand in round 3 was too long a wait so I'm off to Northampton next Sunday.

I'm very glad you've got a chance to go.

USA vs Australia is the game of the pool stages. Italy vs SA is probably the 2nd best game left of the pool stages.

From where I am, south west england... bit too far to do york... but I wish you all the best and hope you enjoy it.

I have to imagine that the winner of USA vs Aus will be the one that advances to the next round. I mean, that’s assuming that USA beats Samoa (and it would be wildly embarrassing if we didn’t).

Man it's mental to me as an Aussie how York is too far from south west England.

Not really trying to shame you or anything, because it's all relative to what's common where you live. And everything in Europe is so close to everything else, so the ~4-hour drive from London is probably super uncommon.

But just driving from one side of Sydney to the other side of Sydney takes you an hour and a half. Sydney to Newcastle (the next city up the coast) is 2 and a half. 9 hours to drive down to Melbourne, and 10 to Brisbane.

What you're missing is that the entire country is like that drive across Sydney. The drive between Sydney and Melbourne, or Sydney and Ballina or somewhere is infinitely more relaxed.

The traffic increases have outpaced the road upgrades over the last 30 years, so it's pretty crazy.

At this time of year if I go to visit my parents a 2 hour each way journey becomes 4 hours each way due to traffic.

Yeah. The UK subreddits are full of Americans thinking they can do a drive in a day to whizz around the country and failing/being advised otherwise. The density of the UK is constant (or the roads less achievable) and not highly localised as in the US. There are also issues with direction depending on your starting point and end point.

I'm currently located in the home counties to the west of London and I'd rather drive to the peak district than to the south west. Even though the time is the same on Google maps.

I’ve got tickets for all games in Northampton (my home town) plus a ticket to a QF in Bristol and then the Final at Twickenham. Completely recommend going to any of those

It's nuts that there's no matches in Leicester, but tempted to get a bus from here for a match if I find time off work

When the hosts were announced I was obviously delighted for Northampton but I did wonder why Leicester wasn’t chosen. Welford Road is a bigger stadium by like 10k seats but maybe transport links to Leicester are harder and potentially don’t want to risk not selling many tickets and WF looking empty.

Today’s attendance was 13,500 out of 15,000 so it looked pretty full. But if you “only” got 15,000 out of 25,000 it would look empty so that could be a reason they didn’t get any.

I’m biased but would always recommend a trip to Franklin’s Gardens!

I think they were pretty careful about choosing stadiums - I'm not sure how big York is but is seems like 10-15k is about the sweet spot. Big enough to feel big, but small enough to sell out or nearly. What with the tickets being so cheap they were really going for atmosphere and converting fans more than maximum potential people through the door.

I believe there was a time when Welford Road was considered unsuitable for internationals due to its facilities, obviously that has changed with England A & Red Roses both playing there but maybe that had something to do with it.

I thought Welford Road could've done some semi's but they've clearly geared it to be concentrated down in Bristol.

Welford Road did at least get the Scotland 6 Nations game and the warm-up vs Spain

Looks like there's a very big gulf between the half a dozen top teams and the rest...loads of 50point scores

I'm going to both games! Also have plans for the railway museum and apparently there's a chocolate factory that does tours. I think both games are going to be excellent.

Awesome!! When are you planning to go to the railway museum? :)

Do. It.

If you can do both, do both. They're both gonna be amazing. Also I'd imagine any of the Brazil games were not assumed to be bangers beforehand so might have some tickets left on the table, but Brazil was awesome.

Do it! York was great fun yesterday!

Those matches are both excellent picks! If you can get down to Bristol, there's still plenty of tickets available for the (likely) non-England quarter and semi.

Go for it, York was amazing today, lovely stadium, great atmosphere. Crowd really getting into it. Lots of opportunity to get a selfie or autograph from the players after. The more people show up the better.

Last I checked there are still tickets for Bristol (2x quarters and the semis) and the vibes should be amazing. Last time England played here the stadium was pretty packed (30k plus) so come join us in making some noise!

Tourney is terrible. Cant get shitfaced at 1 am on Monday mornin can I? Really wished England showed a bit more respect to their World Champions and gave us a few weekend games 😉

Do we have any weekend ( New Zealand weekend) fixtures?

If you win Pool C you will, in the pool stage its all Sunday between 2 and 3 o clock GMT, which means if me maths is correct getting shitfaced is off the table, however if you win the pool your quarter final will be on Saturday at 1 o clock GMT, so I think then getting shitfaced with the match is on the table.
