M28, Looking for a longterm 2-3 room apartment
Hi, I‘ll write this in english having seen so many english posts in this subreddit. Im a doctor starting my residency this october, and im looking for an apartment longterm. 2-3 rooms is a necessity, EBK, if furnished even better if not, please not with everything removed at least. It needs to not be a dachgeschoss Wohnung, because it gets too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter, regardless of the renovations. It also needs to have a washing machine place, because im too old to be running around Waschsalons hahahha. Would love it if i could get some recommendations.

What documents and costs are required for Anmeldung (residence registration) Saarbrücken?
Hello everyone,
I’m planning to register my address (Anmeldung) in Germany and I want to make sure I have everything ready. Can anyone clarify:
- Required documents – I know about passport/ID, Anmeldung form, and Wohnungsgeberbestätigung. Do I also need marriage certificates, children’s birth certificates, or proof of health insurance/university enrollment?
- Translations – If my documents are not in German or English, do they need certified translations?
- Costs – I’ve read some cities may charge a small fee (€10–12). Is this standard, and does it vary by city? Any additional fees I should be aware of, e.g., for vehicle registration updates?
- Other tips – Any advice on appointments, deadlines, or common mistakes to avoid?
Thanks a lot for your help!

HTW Saar Exams: Midterms or Only Finals?
Hi everyone,
I’m a new student at HTW Saar and I want to clarify the exam system.
- Does HTW Saar have midterm exams (Zwischenprüfungen) like in Jordan, or only final exams at the end of the semester?
- If midterms exist, when are they usually scheduled (dates or approximate weeks)?
- Are there opportunities for retakes (second attempt / Wiederholung) and when do they usually take place?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Student job opportunities on weekends in Saarbrücken
Hi everyone,
I’m moving soon to Saarbrücken as an exchange student.
I have a question about student jobs:
- Is it possible to find weekend jobs (Saturday/Sunday or during holidays)?
- Can a student earn more than the standard Minijob (520€/month) if they work more hours?
- My German level is around B1-B2.
Any advice or experiences would be really appreciated!
Thanks in advance 🙏

Moving to Saarbrücken for my PhD! Advice on neighborhoods?
Hi everyone,
I'm moving to Saarbrücken soon to start my PhD at HIPS (Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland), and I'm currently looking for accommodation. I'd really appreciate some local insights on which neighborhoods might be ideal for a PhD student.
The areas I’ve been considering so far are Nauwieser Viertel, Alt-Saarbrücken, St. Johann, and Dudweiler.
My priorities are:
- Reasonable commute to HIPS (ideally by bike or public transport)
- A safe, student-friendly environment
- Ideally a bit of life around (cafés, green spaces, groceries), but not overwhelmingly loud
Would love to hear from anyone who lives or has lived in these neighborhoods, or if you have other recommendations I haven't considered!
P.S. I do have a rental offer in Alt-Saarbrücken. Would like to know more about the area. :)
Thanks in advance 🙌

Exchange Student 👨🏻🎓
Hi everyone! 👋
What do you think of Saarbrücken? 🤔
I'm an incoming exchange student from the Middle East 🌍, and I’ll be studying at HTW Saar in Saarbrücken this winter semester ❄️📚. My arrival date is September 10th ✈️.
I have a few quick questions: 1. What's the best way to find a private studio apartment in Saarbrücken? 🏠 I’m looking for a private studio (not shared). 2. How’s the student job situation there? 💼 Are there part-time jobs available for students who don’t speak much German yet? 3. Is there an active community for international or Arab students in Saarbrücken or at HTW Saar? 🤝
Any advice, tips, or suggestions would be really helpful! 🙏 Thanks a lot!

Bus station safety
Hi I'm travelling by Flixbus from Paris to Lucerne. I have a 3+ hour layover in Saarbrücken from midnight to 3AM. Is the bus station safe? Any tips around anything I should keep in mind?

Auto 7-Tage parken

Grand National Tour: Kendrick Lamar and SZA
Hey everyone! I’m heading to Frankfurt this Friday for the concert and was wondering if anyone else from Saarbrücken is going too. I’m traveling alone, so if anyone’s interested in going together, let me know, it’d be nice to have company!
Also, I could use some tips on what to do after the concert. The next train back is only at 6 AM, and I’m not sure if it’s worth spending 50+ euros just to kill five hours. I’m even considering leaving the concert a bit early to catch the last train home. Would love to hear what others are doing!

I want to apply for a bachelor's in Saarland but all the negative comments keep fucking my decision making
I would like to be near the French border and since I love languages and visiting different areas Saarbruecken sounds like a fantastic option. Plus I don't want a little town or a huge city. I've been gathering information about it and all kinds of comments are talking about poverty, misery and ugly buildings.

E-Busse?

Book Club
Imagine sitting in a cozy café, sipping on lemonade, and discussing your favorite book with fellow enthusiasts. 📚☕
It’s a dream many of us share but rarely pursue, either because of our busy schedules or the fact that our attention spans are so scattered these days. 🤔
If this sounds like something you'd enjoy, come join our small weekly Book Club meet-up in the city center of Saarbrücken.
We focus mainly on non-fiction, books that sit at the intersection of non-fiction and fiction, and anything thought-provoking and worth discussing. We don’t read pure fiction. Our recent reads include Make Your Bed and Sophie’s World.🧠💭
We know everyone has a packed schedule, so we keep it manageable with chapter-by-chapter reading, usually no more than 50–60 pages per week. 📝
If you're interested in more details, feel free to DM me! We have a WhatsApp group, and I’ll be happy to add you after a quick chat. All our books are in English, as most of us are international students.
